Free Speech and Christianity
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  11-13-2008    5
With all the Religious Right whining about the militant atheists (all 3-4 of them) it seems just a tad incongruous for them to react so uncivilly at a book signing. And for the bookstore to cave to their over the top threats suggests that they may need an infusion of moxie themselves.

19th-Century Painter Van Gogh Died Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot 29 July 1890
merrie
by merrie  7-29-2008    1
  * Born: 30 March 1853 * Birthplace: Groot Zundert, Holland * Died: 29 July 1890 (self-inflicted gunshot) * Best Known As: The marvelous painter who cut off his own earlobe A 19th-century painter, Van Gogh is almost as famous for his mental instability as for his vivid paintings. His career as an artist lasted only 10 years and coincided with frequent bouts of depression and anguish Among his favorite painters at this time were Jean François Millet, Rembrandt, Honoré Daumier; among his favorite authors, George Eliot, Charles Dickens, and Harriet Beecher Stowe - all of them interested in the poor and dispossessed. Complementing Van Gogh's dismal subject matter of this time were his colors, dark brownish and greenish tones. The masterpiece of the Dutch period is the Potato Eaters (1885), a night scene in which peasants sit at their meal around a table.

Paranormal Thrillers - Got to Love 'Em

Good to see there is a website that is devoted to mysteries but takes into the genre the Occult and Paranormal as well. I am happy because I hope to be listed here myself one day... Humility was never a strong trait in my family...

Print Book Sales Down, Ebook Sales Up
floridapublisher
by floridapublisher  7-1-2008
A sign of things to come, preferences aside. I sell both print and ebooks and just like the majority of my customers, I prefer the print format. However, when e-readers are more affordable and functional, I am pretty certain things will change. Additionally, every generation is increasingly computer literate, which will lead to greater sales of ebooks. I am currently educating myself in the creation and marketing of of dynamic ebooks so that I can be up to speed in the publishing field. If you have an interest in writing an ebook, let me know! Also, I'll have a new website soon that will sell both ebooks and ereaders (some new ones are on the horizon that will be more reader-friendly). What's your opinion? Can you adapt? Would you just read books on your computer or prefer a light-weight reader such as the Kindle or similar?

Highlights from a "Dating Quiz" that is utterly cracktastic
Ater_Et_Alba
by Ater_Et_Alba  2-16-2008
http://www.askdreldritch.com/aethiswk.html would be the URL. And, besides being exceedingly amusing and very cracky....it seems like a logical quiz that someone from the Asylum might actually want to give to an out-Asylum romantic interest.....because we WOULD be the type to end up with a female alien queen from Cygnus pretending to be a hot male bookshop owner......or something of that ilk. Just sayin', 's all.
