Dept. of Defense Releases new War Strategy Manual
papananook
by papananook  11-11-2008    3
Anyway, I learned today that more than 250,000 people have downloaded the manual in three weeks. Those are New York Times bestselling numbers. And it says something about how much people are looking at this manual. Some authors toil for years for such numbers. So the military is considering publishing the manual and selling it in bookstores, just as it did for 3-0. If you want to check it out, See above link and scroll down to last sentence.

Intolerance on the Left
sillysam
by sillysam  9-17-2008    6
If book banning is such a life-and-death issue to these celebrity foot soldiers for free speech, where were they four years ago when John Kerry and his rabid minions were pressuring Regnery Publishing to withdraw Unfit for Command from bookstores? Where were they when members of the Borders Books Employee Union were openly advocating sabotaging book sales? A message on the union’s members-only website urged: You guys don’t actually HAVE to sell the thing! Just “carelessly” hide the boxes, “accidentally” drop them off pallets, “forget” to stock the ones you have, and then suggest a nice Al Franken or Michael Moore book as a substitute . . . I don’t care if these Neandertals (sic) in fancy suits get mad at me, they aren’t regular customers anyway. Other than “Left Behind” books, they don’t read. Anything you can do to make them feel unwelcome is only fair. They are the people pushing retailers to cut costs, don’t forget. And they would censor your speech, your books,

Anti-Obama Movie On The Way: Citizens United
merrie
by merrie  7-21-2008
One prominent Citizens United movie is “Celsius 41.11,” which says it tells the “truth behind the lies” of the Michael Moore movie “Fahrenheit 9/11.” Other Citizens United movies are critical of the United Nations, illegal immigration, and the American Civil Liberties Union, while one movie promotes Newt Gingrich and his ideas. The conservative group is also looking to the U.S. Supreme Court for help in advertising the anti-Hillary movie. It is opposing a federal regulation, under the McCain-Feingold Act, requiring that a disclaimer that identifies the group be placed at the end of television ads promoting the movie and criticizing Mrs. Clinton. It is also arguing that it should not have to disclose how much it spent to produce the movie and the ads, nor who contributed to it. The Supreme Court is scheduled to decide next week whether it will hear the case.

Print Book Sales Down, Ebook Sales Up
floridapublisher
by floridapublisher  7-1-2008
A sign of things to come, preferences aside. I sell both print and ebooks and just like the majority of my customers, I prefer the print format. However, when e-readers are more affordable and functional, I am pretty certain things will change. Additionally, every generation is increasingly computer literate, which will lead to greater sales of ebooks. I am currently educating myself in the creation and marketing of of dynamic ebooks so that I can be up to speed in the publishing field. If you have an interest in writing an ebook, let me know! Also, I'll have a new website soon that will sell both ebooks and ereaders (some new ones are on the horizon that will be more reader-friendly). What's your opinion? Can you adapt? Would you just read books on your computer or prefer a light-weight reader such as the Kindle or similar?

GOP Senator Chafee: New Book is tough on Pro-War Democrats, Bush, and Republicans
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  2-2-2008
More: The most startling revelation: Chafee must be the only senator in U.S. political history who says his defeat was the result of voters acting logically. “The system works best when power remains in the hands of the voters,” writes Chafee. “I was a casualty of the system working in 2006, and while defeat is never easy, I give the voters credit: They made the connection between electing even popular Republicans at the cost of leaving the Senate in the hands of a leadership they had learned to mistrust.” “I find it surprising now, in 2008, how many Democrats are running for president after shirking their constitutional duty to check and balance this president,” writes Chafee. “They argue that the president duped them into war, but getting duped does not exactly recommend their leadership. Helping a rogue president start an unnecessary war should be a career-ending lapse of judgment.”

15 Most amazing co-incidences
pokkets
by pokkets  1-11-2008    1
There are 15, and 14 in the clip the rest can be found following the bottom link. I had a really weird co-incidence that took over 10 years to unfold. I was hit by a bike, while getting out of a bus in 1985. I never met the rider. In 1990 I was hit by a car while running across peak hour traffic. I was quite prepared to admit I was responsible I shouldn't have crossed the road, but I was waiting for a bus and wanted to get across the road and back before the bus came. The peak hour traffic was flowing at 45 mph. I never met the Driver. In around 1997, My Nan discovered (she liked to keep things like this in a diary) that one of her friends that she had met at the retirement village. was grandmother to both the rider, and the driver. While there may have been a co-incidence, I still can't help thinking the fact that I'm still alive is a miracle. (Maybe I've just got a reinforced skull)

Gore A ``Crook'' Presiding Over An Eco-Business That Pumps Out Cash
merrie
by merrie  12-31-2007    5
Allegre doesn't deny that the climate has changed or that extreme weather has become more common. He instead emphasizes the local character of these phenomena. While the icecap of the North Pole is shrinking, the one covering Antarctica -- or 92 percent of the Earth's ice -- is not, he says. Nor have Scandinavian glaciers receded, he says. To play down these differences by basing forecasts on a global average makes no sense to Allegre. Paris bookstores brim with guidebooks -- including one shaped like a toilet seat -- that tell readers how to help save our planet. Yet the dissidents refuse to shut up, even now that Al Gore has won the Nobel Peace Prize and the U.S. government has agreed to negotiate a new global-warming treaty by 2009. Exposing the Global Warming Myth! http://plancktime.blogspot.com/2007/12/gore-called-crook-by-french-education.html

The Pursuit of Happiness in a Nightmare World

Recommended article. One may say polemically that the frenetic desperation for happiness is perhaps the main indicator of current moral and spiritual malaise.
