Bottled water has contaminants too, researchers say
brightlight4
by brightlight4  10-17-2008
“In some cases, it appears bottled water is no less polluted than tap water and, at 1,900 times the cost, consumers should expect better,” said Jane Houlihan, an environmental engineer who co-authored the study.

Bottled water has contaminants too, study finds
paleblue
by paleblue  10-15-2008
This is a fact, faucet water is considered "filtered" water because your local municipality filters it for you, but thats usually done with Chlorine a known cancer causing substance.. Since I sell water filtration systems I always tell people never buy bottled water! Between the time it arrives at your home its been in that bottle way to long never mind the fact of what I just previously mentioned.. Yet they sell that stuff for $1.50 or more to just contaminate you more.. If you wish to see an excellent system which synergy uses a 1micron carbon block filter, UV light and Ozone then visit my site: www.cleanairbiz.com and click on Living Water tab.. NSF Certified!

Love the spokesperson. A contaminant is not a contaminant until it exceeds recommended levels. Does anyone have a lot of faith in a body that has consistently taken aboard test results that were not adequate. Same for the Federal Standards mob.

Palin’s Taking Us Back to "McCarthyism".
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  10-12-2008    1
The acrimonious language in Palin’s speeches, take us back to "McCarthyism". We've all known that Rightdiculous columnists and their nastier Right-Wing talk radio hacks have been doing this rhetoric for years. And that their ditto heads have been soaking it up, in the comfort of their living rooms, where they shout obscenities and hateful oratory, alone or among their kind. Now McCain’s, VP choice allows them a place IN PUBLIC to caterwaul their Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter induced RAGE. It must be a catharses for the pathetic souls who have been listening and reading the unadulterated animosity coming over air waves or in print, directed at some unknown enemy. They now can UNLEASH the bottled up hatred, in the open and have a recognizable foe, thanks to the self-proclaimed pit-bull. The wingnut goons behind desks or microphones must be MIGHTY PROUD! “HURRAY FOR SARAH PALIN!” they shout. She’s harvesting the grotesque seeds of hatred, we’ve fervently sewn! bs1999bs

Too many think if it is bottled it must be good water - not so. And the plastic bottles are a major environmental problem. The cost of transporting this product in energy terms is also immense. We need to think better!

FLOW: Documentary humanizes international water politics
zalisan
by zalisan  9-14-2008    2
Please join me along with the directors urge to viewers to sign the UN petition http://article31.org/ that would make access to clean drinking water a basic human right. The director wants you to think of water as a commodity that's as precious as oil--blue gold, as they say. "Blue Gold" is also the title of a book by Maude Barlow, an activist who is featured in the film, fighting against the corporate takeover of water systems. Whoever controls water, has power. Though our tap water is pretty regulated, we insist on buying bottled water (in one particularly troubling tale, Nestle is selling Michigan water back to citizens of the state in bottles for a fee). Barlow says California has 20 years of water left, Arizona has 10 (but with the way they're building golf courses, she says, they could reduce it to five). Until then, don't forget to turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth.

Woman pleads guilty to 1999 eco-terrorism act
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  9-13-2008
In her plea agreement, Mason also admits involvement in 12 other acts with property damage pegged at more than $2.5 million. They include the destruction of four homes under construction in Washtenaw and Macomb counties and an attempted arson at an Ice Mountain bottled water pumping station in Mecosta County, all in 2003. Mason will not be charged with those incidents, but they could affect her sentence. The U.S. attorney's office agrees not to seek more than 20 years in prison but could appeal if U.S. District Judge Paul Maloney goes below 15 years.

"Now that your brine has cooled, pour it over the pickles until the jar is full. Screw on your lid (if you’re using a recycled spaghetti sauce jar) or your canning lid and ring (no need to pressure seal.) Now just stick these guys in the fridge for a minimum of 5 days for awesome pickle flavor! They’ll keep in the fridge for weeks (although they are usually gone within days.) "
