MarketWatch reports that FBI investigators are asking questions about the Rezko-Obama land deal. ...Chicago real estate developer Tony Rezko was convicted June 16 on felony counts of fraud, money laundering, and aiding and abetting a bribery scheme involving kickbacks from companies wanting to do business with the state... Conner said his appraisal of the Rezko property, held in Rita Malki Rezko's name, was replaced with a higher one and he was fired when he questioned the document. ...According to his complaint, Mr. Conner reviewed the appraisal of the Rezko property by another firm, Adams Appraisal, which had set the value at $625,000. The complaint said he told his bosses the property had been overvalued by at least $125,000 and that a “reasonable and fair evaluation” should have been no greater than $500,000. Mr. Conner said the removal of his appraisal “seemed understood as a crime with respect to the subpoena” of the Rezko property and the FDIC audit.

POPS"Maverick" McCain Supports Pork-Stuffed Bailout Bill McCain just contradicted his entire "reform" message. He had opportunity to lead the way, against Big Interest. But instead he supported it, under the plea of "necessity" of course. There was a radio talk show that did an excellent job on this today, but it was new to me and I could not find it on the web. The former republican (a conservative or libertarian host), complete with soundbites, ripped McCain to shreds, called him "an idiot". He could have won the election (and saved Main Street) by voting against it, and proved that he is against pork bills, against Big Interests, and a "maverick" for "reform", but did not! (If anyone knows the radio talk show and heard it, please post it in a comment. It was the best commentary on this anywhere).

POPSMystery swirls around hijacked Iranian ship Within days, pirates who had boarded the ship developed strange health complications, skin burns and loss of hair. Independent sources tell The Long War Journal that a number of pirates have also died. In a strange twist, the Iranian press claims that the U.S. has offered to pay a $7 million bribe to the pirates to "receive entry permission and search the vessel." Officials in the Pentagon and the Department of State approached for this story refused to comment on the situation.

POPSPakistan Turns On Their Taliban September 5, 2008 Because TTP groups have long been involved in criminal activities, they have developed ties with major gangsters in the region. These guys want to maintain some contacts with the Islamic radicals, just in case, and help out by sharing their smuggling and money laundering contacts in the Persian Gulf. So for the government to really hurt the TTP financially, they will have to go after the criminal infrastructure the Taliban is allied with. That won't happen, because the widespread corruption in Pakistan includes a lot of connections, and cooperation, between government officials and major gangsters. So "freezing bank accounts" may sound impressive, but means less than other measures, like roadblocks on the major roads linking TTP controlled areas with the outside world. This is something the government has been using more of late, and it leads to many battles. The Taliban will constantly attack the checkpoints, and truck drivers will attempt, to bribe their way past the troops.

After helping Musharref (via CIA) seize power through a coupe. After knowing the ISI help the Taliban (while still giving millions to Pakistan), now this. (Hint: there is no real threat from the Taliban, but they have to stick to the official story for invading Afghanistan and 9/11. The Taliban resists the US invasion of Afghanistan of course, and the Islamic Pakis and ISI of course resent that too but have been bribe with money thus far). Now the self appointed ruler of the world, who claims Afghanistan is US property, threatens retaliation into Pakistan, a sovereign country, should any groups support Taliban resistance in Afghanistan. Oh, and Obama support this plan too, because he is a member of the CFR and their global agenda too.
