POPSBarack is a survivalist
A few months ago, when the Rev. Jeremiah Wright first came to national attention, Obama was nearly demure when he said: “I can no more disown (Wright) than I can disown my white grandmother.” He may not have disowned his white grandmother, but Obama didn’t exactly paint a sympathetic — or loving — portrait of her either. He essentially threw her under the bus, saying that she had made racist remarks while he was growing up, a statement that served only to highlight Obama’s own remarkable transcendence. After several weeks of balancing his professed love for Wright with the controversial statements of his chosen father figure and spiritual mentor, Obama eventually left his church of 20 years. But why then, after all those years, did Obama finally find the door? What changed was the degree of his self-interest. As long as Wright was helping Obama burnish his bona fides within the African-American community, it didn’t matter that the minister’s rhetorical flights of fancy border

POPSTwo Die, 30 Injured As Attacker Rams Buses In Jerusalem two weeks after Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza. A Hamas spokesman, Sami Abu Zuhri, told Reuters the group did "not expect it will influence the Gaza calm." Israel Radio described the driver as a 30-year-old Arab who was known to the authorities because of a criminal record. The attack was the first serious episode in Jerusalem since Palestinian from East Jerusalem shot dead eight students at a yeshiva school in March. Rosenfeld, the police spokesman, said the driver came from one of several large Palestinian villages in the East Jerusalem area. The earthmover appeared to have been driven out of a construction site on Jaffa Road. Hundreds of people were reported to have fled the area. "It could have been a lot worse," said Micky Rosenfeld, a police spokesman. Police referred to the driver as a terrorist but his motive and identity were not immediately made known.

POPSKos Throws Obama Under The Bus Now I know there’s a contingent around here that thinks Obama can do no wrong, and he must never be criticized, and if you do, well f*ck you! I respect the sentiment, but will respectfully disagree. Because nothing says “respect” like a hearty “f*ck you!”

POPSDisabled models show my cynical side tells me these type of shows (like the fat losing weight etc) are just another way for programs to milk the "beauty and/or the beast" paradigm for making TV emotional. So sad really that it is being so "tastefully" done to bypass peoples idea of ridicule.

POPSharassment in the UK is off the charts -- worse than in former Soviet states. As a photographer myself, this absolutely enrages me. Nobody ever harasses people with cheap digital cameras, but if you have an SLR you are suddenly a terrorist. I was harassed a few years ago by the police for taking pictures on public property. It was in Pt. Arthur, Texas near my home town. I was taking pictures of a sunset behind the refineries from across a lake, too far away for any sensible person to confuse it with "surveillance." The cop who harassed us told us that what we were doing wasn't illegal but if we kept it up he would haul us in for "disturbing the peace" and "criminal mischief", the latter being almost impossible to contest. I am seriously afraid these days to practice my beloved hobby and have found myself carrying my camera less and less. Screw the terrorists! It's the police that are taking away my liberties, not foreigners.
