POPSFeckless To Reckless, Pelosi Should Resign But she's not fooling anyone. In playing politics with the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the speaker has moved beyond the incompetence and irresponsibility that have characterized her leadership to date. President Bush, however, isn't about to be suckered into releasing the reserves just long enough for pump prices to fall by Election Day, thereby saving Democrats' skins so they can carry on their drill-nothingism for an additional two years. The president needs to do two things with Pelosi's proposal: First, tell her "no," unless she comes up with a plan to open up more drilling. Second, expose it for what it is — a bid to paint Bush as the problem to distract from her own sorry record. borders on recklessness, something we cannot tolerate in such dangerous times.

POPSAggressive teens have mismatched brains
It is said, as it has been said for a while, that 'Kids are growing up quickly these days' and the speed seems to relate to the rate of technological progress, but 'growing up' is a double edged sword. While many have a remarkable ability to understand computers, and recently developed innovations, and crack some of the most elaborate codes, to the point where earlier generations can't keep up with them, emotional maturity does not match this advance in a similar way, and may in fact be stunted by the preoccupation of the brain with technical knowledge. An important question is rising which concerns the development of both children and adolescents, where growth will establish the bases of adult physiology and understanding - the relationships between emotional intellectual and physical development, and how they are changing. Of course nothing will ever make puberty a cakewalk, but if parents and other adults are going to provide the best support. When, and when not to get involved?

POPSPat Buchanan: Neocons and Unjust War Must Go! This book is flaming hot. Here is an experienced man who has worked for three Presidents at least and is saying on foreign policy, war, and the neoconservatives the same thing as Ron Paul. Also warns about the North American Union.

POPSLong-term effects of Iraq war likely worse than Vietnam for U.S. The WaPo interviews a number of experts who suggest that given the current situation, the Iraq war will probably have disastrously long-term fallout for U.S. global standing that "makes Vietnam look like a cakewalk." Already the rest of the world sees the war as incompetently mismanaged, ethically and legally indefensible, strategically misguided, and resulting in a massive humanitiarian catastrophe.

POPSAustralia march into World Cup Cricket final Go Aussie. I thought South Africa would put up a much better fight than this. We just completely destroyed them and go into the final against Sri Lanka with so much momentum. Brisbane's own Matty Hayden in the runs again -- he's pulling away as the leading runscorer in this World Cup.

POPSMore Fisk I never thought I would quote Pat Buchanan, but robert Fisk does in his excellent article (already clipped once); our Pat was prescient, no doubt about it (does not mean God spoke to him however).

POPSNo tears for Bush Surpise, surprise, the rats in the sack are now biting each other. It is harldy to be supposed that Bush dreamt up Iraq on his own. (Did he even know where it was when he first ran for president?) Now, those who egged him on are turning on him. There is a saying - you know people by their friends - he chose unwisely it seems.
