POPSArtist exposes his soul...and his mother's stuff This artist comes at his work from a very interesting place. I love readymades and in general, works that contain commercial products like the toothpaste tubes in the photo. The exhibit on the surface seems curious and somewhat whimsical like a Duchamp but from what the review says its far more intense. I'm looking forward to seeing it but at the same time I wonder if I will feel uncomfortable peering so deeply into his (and his mother's) life, soul, pain, etc...even though they've invited me to do so.

POPSA Degree in English Roman writers composed some of the world’s most thrilling verse and were masters of historiography, oratory and philosophy. But diploma Latin is some of the most depressing and long-winded legalese you can find. Hiding behind the lovely calligraphy are maddening syntax and appalling neologisms. How do you say the name of every college town in Latin? You shouldn’t have to. (Nor should you have to struggle to read the text in the illustration that accompanies this piece, so let me help you out. It says: “I can’t understand this either.”)

POPSAre Ancient Chinese Characters Lost in Computers (?!!) Wang's father, a professor, passed the love of characters on to him. But Wang grew up under Mao, when workers were glorified and scholars were considered bourgeois - so Wang spent his life as a repairman. Now, he's back to his first love. He gives free calligraphy lessons to any passer-by who's interested. Wang: "These people who always use computers, their handwriting is sloppy, and they even forget which strokes go where." Liu: "Computers can also help us understand our culture. For instance, we can read traditional Chinese literature online, and get whatever information we want about Chinese history. I don't think handwriting Chinese characters is the only way to value our culture."

POPSIlluminating Beauty, Illustrating Harmony Interactive Show at the source. Illuminating Beauty, Illustrating Harmony: A Gallery celebrating the 25th Anniversary of The Institute of Ismaili Studies ...invites the viewer to the large and complex subject of the artistic and intellectual heritage of Islam. Ranging in date from the ninth to the nineteenth century, and produced in lands as far westward as Tunisia and as far eastward as China and India, the artefacts reflect the great diversity and range of a distinctive visual culture with its own unique artistic language. ‘Illuminating’ and ‘illustrating’ are appropriate from with the perspectives of calligraphy and the arts of the book, and are also linked to notions of knowledge and learning in Islam. A significant number of items in this exhibition are, therefore, related to the arts of the book, in particular the Qur’an.

POPSTurquoise Mountain: Invest in Afghan Arts To Save Kabul Battered by over two decades of war, limited access to new materials and cheaper imports from China and Pakistan, there is an urgent need to support the rural craft communities of Afghanistan. The Foundation has developed a Sustainable and Authentic Crafts Standard, which guarantees the authenticity and ethical value of any Afghan products it promotes. The Foundation will establish a permanent resource and research center where it plans to build a gas kiln, a workshop, a laboratory for testing glazes, and a library. This improvement in training and resources will be matched with valuable access to the visiting tourist market.
