The Myths Of Clintonomics
merrie
by merrie  11-16-2008    1
The media assume the Clinton tax hikes somehow stimulated the economy, and are cheering on Obama's plan. Obama would raise the top rate "back to where Bill Clinton had it at the time of the greatest bull market, the greatest economic growth in the history of the country," Best Life editor Jack Otter told CNN. "Bill Clinton's tax rate was not a punitive tax rate. It didn't harm the economy." In fact, the economy grew in spite of, not because of , the Clinton tax hikes. The bull market took off precisely when then-Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan took his foot off the brakes and hit the gas in 1995. It was also then that Republicans took control of Congress — further blunting the effects of the Clinton tax torpedo that had taken effect the previous year. Their "deficit-reduction plan" didn't create the surpluses at all. They were a direct result of a tidal wave of capital-gains revenues generated by the GOP-led stock boom.

The Long and Winding Road
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  11-8-2008    2
Geographically, the United States of America ends here at the tip of Florida. Politically, the long Bush night of the soul also ends here - in slightly over 70 days. Historically, led by a cool black man with a weapon of mass seduction - his unlimited soft power - this passage of time has the potential to be the prelude to a new day dawning. It's up to engaged, tirelessly mobilized US civil society - and for the whole world for that matter - to turn hope into reality, and help this man "change America, and change the world". Obambopaloobop Obambamboom  .You'll have to make do with the title of this clip as the obvious inspiration for the clip song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COMsKPeWAsw But here's a obamabeepbopalooping song, if you like that better. .:D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlkMc0ZaJmY

This could be part of the problem. Obama, in his chats with nine world leaders, told SK President Lee the US-ROK relationship is a “cornerstone” of Asian stability. Good thing he noticed. Medvedev rounded on the United States for ills ranging from the global financial crisis to the recent war in Georgia, in a state-of-the-nation speech that was watched intently by his mentor Vladimir Putin, and omitted mentioning Obama by name. http://news.theage.com.au/world/russias-medvedev-hits-out-at-us-20081105-5ilq.html

continues: He was taken to hospital with injuries to his neck and bruising to his abdomen. A lawyer for the clergy disputed his version of events, noting that the nuns had "a combined age of 160". "This establishment was being occupied illegally," said lawyer Gaetano Di Vietri. "As to the alleged aggression, I would only say that the two nuns have a combined age of about 160. For the rest, it will be up to the magistrate to clear up, but the clergy members deny the allegations." The priest and nuns belong to a religious order, the Disciples of Santa Teresa and the Baby Jesus, which owns the lease on the premises and reportedly wants the property back.

Israel-Lebanon War Part II Coming Soon
blueridge
by blueridge  11-4-2008    1
Especially as the US transitions to a new President, Israel will be sure to provoke and establish its agenda (and the neocons) for the next administration to support. Note the misleading sub headline, as if Israel's war is restricted to Hezbollah, while last time they bombed over 70 percent of Lebanon's civilian infrastructure which brought only faint and temporary cries of protest from Congress as "disproportionate response".

Should You Choose a Mortgage Broker or a Lender?
seolinky
by seolinky  11-2-2008
So often when you need a loan, you also need somebody who can truly guide you through the process. You are embarking upon a big undertaking and your emotions are already going through way too much. A good mortgage broker recognizes all that is happening for you, and can be the guide that takes you from the beginning of the lending path all the way through to the end. And he is normally the one that can make the process as painless as possible.

"They are the ones that fit the description. They didn't go look for these girls, they looked for someone that matched that description.

At 17.41p.m. Hans Hedtoft informs "we are sinking slowly" and at 18.06 the trawler picks up the beginning of an SOS after which there was no longer connection to the Greenlandic ship. No wreckage could positively be identified as coming from Hans Hedtoft. And not until 9 months after the loss, the only piece of wreckage washed ashore on Iceland: a lifebuoy. The Hans Hedtoft sank 40 years ago.

Iraq on the brink of another Civil War
notareargunner
by notareargunner  10-28-2008    1
Whenever and wherever a despot has died and left a country in political limbo, that country has had problems. When Spain and Portugal went through their Nemesis in the 70's and 80's, they had stable European neighbours to call on. Of all the deaths that threatened stability, it was perhaps only Franco who had made provisions for his demise and reinstalled a King to give the population a focal point. Tito made no provisions at all and the result was the worst form of Civil War imaginable, with, one has to remember, the defining of Ethnic Cleansing. Those countries were safe for law abiding people. Armed policemen patrolled most streets and their form of rule and law prevailed. The soft minded liberals infested the emergent countries with wholly unattainable ideals. Ideals that do not even work in a stable democracy like Britain. Why does Liberalism not work? Because there are those out there who wish us harm and the Liberal Elite cannot conceive such a truth.

Neuroscience Sheds New Light on Creativity
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  10-18-2008    1
That's why there is a striking lack of imagination in most people's visualization of a beach sunset. It's an iconic image, so your brain simply takes the path of least resistance and reactivates neurons that have been optimized to process this sort of scene. If you imagine something that you have never actually seen, like a Pluto sunset, the possibilities for creative thinking become much greater because the brain can no longer rely on connections shaped by past experience. In order to think creatively, you must develop new neural pathways and break out of the cycle of experience-dependent categorization. As Mark Twain said, "Education consists mainly in what we have unlearned." For most people, this does not come naturally. Often, the harder you try to think differently, the more rigid the categories become. Interesting read
