POPSThe Kolibri Cordless 3D Sensor The Kolibri Cordless sensor, developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics: a light an small device that can take 3D images of almost anything and almost anywhere. LED lights shine a projector light on an object, and two cameras record the image from two different angles. Then a computer compiles the data into a 3D image.

POPSKei's "Sayonara" music video has wonderful editing I really, REALLY like this track. I'm not sure what to dub it stylistically, but it's very high-tempo, techy, melodic trance with great vox and bleepy SFX. Nothing too "out there", but a solid performer. The music video has ULTRA visual accompaniment — the camera pans, angles, and how it's all put together work incredibly well. One of the best parts is the clever editing of looped Second Life animations to give them a more dynamic, varied feel. Bravo! One of my fave Second Life vids so far. ^_^

POPSMaterials That Reflect No Light The work is part of a growing effort among researchers to alter the properties of materials, such as their optical properties, by controlling nanoscale structures. Reflectivity is related to the difference between the amount that two substances, such as air and glass, refract or bend light. Reducing the difference reduces reflection where two materials meet. In the new coating, each successive layer bends light more as light moves from air into a substrate.

POPSTrap-jaw ants set new animal kingdom speed record (VIDEO!) You MUST SEE the researcher's high-speed video footage from this project. It's INCREDIBLE! Escape Jump (.mov) Bouncer Defense (.mov) Also, from the CalAcademy website: One of the most amazing things about these trap-jaw ants is the way they can work together to stay safe,” says Fisher... “A group of ants can confuse predators by performing multiple, simultaneous escape jumps, creating what I call the ‘popcorn effect.’ The ants can also team up to perform group bouncer defense attacks on large intruders.”
