POPSGOP Sen.: Electoral Rout McCain's Fault Am I the only one who sees that freedom and "religious-based values" are often contradictory? After all, the Taliban has "religious-based values." DeMint in his own words: McCain, who is proponent of campaign finance reform that weakened party organizations and basically put George Soros in the driver's seat. His proposal for amnesty for illegals. His support of global warming, cap-and-trade programs that will put another burden on our economy. And of course, his embrace of the bailout right before the election was probably the nail in our coffin this last election. And he has been an opponent of drilling in ANWR, at a time when energy is so important. It really didn't fit the label, but he was our package. I totally called this . DeMint -- and a lot of GOPers -- believe they lost because they weren't crazy enough. Good news for Democrats in future elections.

POPSDead Famous: 18th Century Obituaries Sparked Modern Cult Of Celebrity The Gentleman’s Magazine in 1789 gave an account of the life of Isaac Tarrat, a man known to hire himself out to impersonate a doctor and tell fortunes in a fur cap, a large white beard and a worn damask night gown. Another subject, Peter Marsh of Dublin, was made famous by his convictions about his own death in 1740. After being hit by a mad horse which died soon after, Mr Marsh convinced himself that he would also go mad and die. The Gentleman’s Magazine reported that he duly died “of a conceit that he was mad”. Fascinating !!!

POPSrecommendations for the frugal tippler I'm not generally big on vodka (I subscribe to the white paint theory), but I can vouch for the Luksusowa (Polish for "luxury"), which is a potato vodka and wonderfully smooth. Bulleit Bourbon is quite tasty. And my grandpa drank Old Overholt (which he called "Old Overshoes"), so I have a fondness for that, too.

POPSISPs Neglect Infrastructure: Think of Capping Downloads Articles, like this one, do not take into consideration the growing trend of multiple internet ports per home. For example, a home could have a parent on one computer downloading news videos, a child on another computer downloading Netflix or MP3s, and a third child could be on a PS3/Xbox playing online. This type of house could easily surpass the monthly limits. Additionally, bandwidth needs typically doubles every year, so one house may only need 10 GB per month now. However, next year they will likely need 20GB per month. How are placing caps going to provide ISPs with incentive to increase their infrastructure? It will not!

POPS Reasons Not to Vote for Barack Obama, In His Own Words . . . . . . . . Obama’s now infamous “Spread the wealth.” And in an interview with ABC News, anchor Charlie Gibson asked, “ n each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased; the government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down. So why raise it given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected? “ Obama says: “Well, Charlie, what I've said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.” Obama’s view of the First Amendment? Threats of criminal libel prosecutions, Justice Department intimidation, and no promise to veto the “Fairness Doctrine” if Congress passes it. Obama’s view of Iran, currently building nuclear reactors? “Iran … tiny … pose a serious threat to us. Michelle Obama’s views about her husband running for President? “It’s way too soon. He hasn’t done anything yet

POPSFive GREAT Reasons To Vote Against Barack Obama
Let’s think about this one for a moment. FICA, the social security and medicare taxes, are set at 15% of the first $102,000 and then they go away. The employer pays half, unless you happened to be self-employed. In that case, you pay the whole thing. So, if the democrats erase the cap, that is an automatic 15% tax increase on all money earned over $102,000. There will also be the tax increase from allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire. And there will be the tax increase on the “rich”, defined somewhere between $120,000 and 250,000. So, how big will these tax increases actually be? More than 15%, less than 30%? Maybe. Maybe more. Nobody knows because Congress writes the laws. And that means Pelosi and Reid. He has four other terrific and amusing reasons. The courts, the snottiness of the Obamabots, etc. Read it all. 5 Great Reasons To Vote Against Obama ~ by Howie Carr http://www.bostonherald.com/news/columnists/view/2008_11_02_Five_reasons_to_vote_against_Obama/

POPSYou Unemployed Blue-Collar Workers Can Freeze In The Dark, Too Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. This ought to be a big hit with coal miners. Or, for that matter, anybody else since we currently produce half of our electricity with coal. But hey, candlelight is so romantic. What are we talking about? The ObaMarx’s energy “plan”, that’s what. The plan under which he intends to put the coal business out of business . . . But why don’t we let him speak for himself?: What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. http://www.nicedoggie.net/2008/?p=2850

POPS They Can Try, But They Will Bankrupt The Coal Industry “This interview was given to San Francisco folks many, many months ago,” Palin said. “You should have known about this, so that you would have better decision-making information as you go into the voting booth.” In the audiotape, Obama reiterated his call for a cap and trade system on carbon and greenhouse gases.

POPSOctober Surprise ~ 14 Inches Of Snow Fell At High Point State Park
To continue passing legislation to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) or other “greenhouse gases” isn’t just stupid, it is lethal. What people are going to need more of is the energy to heat their homes and workplaces. Thwarting the building of more coal-fired or nuclear plants to generate electricity is suicidal. That is, however, exactly what Congress intends to do and we can anticipate blizzard of legislation, instituting “cap-and-trade” requirements, increases in ethanol requirements, and a host of other poisonous legislation that will severely handicap any recovery from the current financial crisis and inflict a host of allegedly “unintended” consequences. One of those consequences were the food riots that occurred earlier this year around the world when the price of corn rose in response to U.S. mandates that ethanol be used along with gasoline. Proposed increases in such ethanol use will require engineering changes in new automobiles . . . .
