POPSRussia Arrests 8 Suspects in Arctic Sea Hijacking
The invaders reportedly had tied up the crew, beat them, claimed they were looking for drugs, then sped off about 12 hours later in an inflatable craft. Serdyukov reportedly said the hijackers boarded the freighter under the pretext that there was a problem with their inflatable craft. The hijackers, who were armed, then forced the crew to change course and turned off the Arctic Sea's navigation equipment, he was quoted as saying. By the time the Swedish report of the attack had emerged, the ship had already passed through the English Channel, where it made its last known radio contact on July 28. Signals from the ship's tracking device were picked up off France's coast the next day, but that was the last known trace of it until Monday. Serdyukov said the ship were found about 300 miles (480 kilometers) away from the island nation of Cape Verde. The 15 crew members were safe and had been taken aboard the Russian naval vessel for questioning, Serdyukov said.

POPS56-year-old woman swims across Atlantic Ocean (UPDATE: Hoax!) continues: Figge plans to continue her odyssey, swimming from Trinidad to the British Virgin Islands, where she expects to arrive in late February. The crew won't compute the total distance Figge swam until after she completes the journey, Higdon said. Then it's home to Aspen, Colo. - where she trained for months in an outdoor pool amid snowy blizzards - to reunite with her Alaskan Malamute.

POPSHuge Chunk of Earth Crust Missing :O To answer some of these questions Dr MacLeod with a team of scientists, led by marine geophysicist Professor Roger Searle, Durham University, will travel to the area which lies mid-way between the Cape Verde Islands and the Caribbean. The expedition will be the inaugural research cruise of a new UK research ship RRS James Cook. The team intends to use sonar to image the seafloor and then take rock cores using a robotic seabed drill. The samples will provide a rare opportunity to gain insights into the workings of the mantle deep below the surface of the Earth. Cardiff University scientists set sail March 5th to investigate a startling discovery in the depths of the Atlantic.
