Cheaper fuel cell on the way
pokkets
by pokkets  7-31-2008
At the moment around $3500 to $4000 worth of platinum is required for a hydrogen fuel cell big enough for the average passenger car. Platinum is around double the price of Gold. Platinum in a similar way as it is used in rocket fuel cells, is the catalyst that makes the oxygen and hydrogen burn efficiently enough to power an engine. The new cathodes are expected to be 10% of the cost, for the same current and also immune from being affected by carbon monoxide, so are more stable than platinum nanoparticles, Now would be a good time to sell Platinum futures.

Inventor of Water Powered Dune Buggy Murdered
WomanInTheMoon11
by WomanInTheMoon11  7-18-2008    3
He was poisoned March 1998..He died in the parking lot of a restaurant in his home town of Grove City, Ohio. Sharks came a week later and stole the the dune buggy and all of his experimental equipment.. He had patents on his invention and was ready for production. Only $1,500 to equip your car! See the Videos above. No gasoline, just water. Stanley said he was offered a billion dollars from an Arab to basically shelf his idea. So what is happening with Stan's Great Invention of the 20th Century!! Absolutely nothing. Are they manufacturing his invention. NO, Why not? because it would solve all the world's problems today. All they talk about is hydrogen gas stations run by Shell and a Canadian Oil Firm. Then they talk all about "hydrogen fuel cells" which take a lifetime of gas burned just to make one fuel cell. A hydrogen fuel cell factory is a real SMOG factory..-- EXCERPTS FROM THE WEB PAGE

Poets Will Celebrate Al Gore 1,000 Years From Now
merrie
by merrie  6-19-2008    1
Gore spotlights a number of these companies, including Smart Car, Amyris Biotechnologies, Altra Biofuels, Mascoma (cellulosic ethanol), Great Point Energy (biomass-to-gas and carbon capture technology), Altarock Energy (geothermal energy), Bloomenergy (fuel cells), Missole (solar technology) and Ausra (solar technology). Flashing their corporate logos on the screen, Gore states, “Here are just a few of the investments that I personally think make sense. I have a stake in these….” Putting aside the questionable legality of Gore’s promotion of his investments -- conduct that could very well be contrary to federal and state securities laws that forbid an unlicensed individual from promoting unregistered securities to the public -- it seems that it’s important to change the laws so that Gore can expand the $100 million-plus fortune he’s already accumulated since leaving public service in 2001.

Waste water plus bacteria make hydrogen
pokkets
by pokkets  11-13-2007
Hydrogen at the moment, is generally produced from Hydrocarbons and can also produce greenhouse gases. The Bacteria produce hydrogen from vinegar in a way that is environmentally friendly, and is a method of using renewable organic material, It uses 10% of the energy that is used in Hydrolysis, where hydrogen is produced only using an electric current

Concept HYBSTER is an ecological vehicle designed to satisfy needs and taste of the Californian market. It is a unique combination of limousine luxury, agility of a small city car and attractively of a sports car. It is powered by two engines. Fuel cells are placed in front of the car using hydrogen as a fuel. Four independent electro engines are placed on each wheel (one engine by wheel). The main battery is placed bellow trunk floor. All engines are working alternately depending on driving style. The Hybster has a range of 300 km since it can call on the energy accumulated during braking by its lithium fuel cells stored under the floor. When combined with all wheel drive this offers the appetizing prospect of sports car performance combined with environmental compatibility. Each wheel can be steered separately. That allows vehicle to make a full circle with very small radius. This system helps at the parking car in tight places between other cars - now it can move obliquely.

Fuel Economy: How does your vehicle rate?
gingembre
by gingembre  5-5-2007
I looked up the energy impact of my Ford Ranger pickup & although at 9.4 tons per year of greenhouse gas emissions (based on 15K annual miles) it is only midway between the worst and best vehicles, not the worst, it still consumes 18 barrels of petrol per year. My only saving grace is that I drive only about 3K miles per year, thereby reducing my truck's energy impact by 80%. I also learned that the 2007 Ford Rangers are the most fuel efficient of the trucks listed. (Unfortunately my truck is 10 years old). One of the best things about my truck is that it is paid for. It does the job for me. Living in the country a person needs to be able to haul stuff. A person does not need a big gas guzzler to haul stuff, unless they often haul big stuff. Most of the trucks I see on the road, and especially the big macho ones, aren't hauling anything. Anyway, this site provides you with the opportunity to examine your own and other vehicles in terms of fuel economy and energy impact.
