POPSEarth would be heading to a freeze without CO2 emissions The chill would induce a long, stable period of glaciation in the mid-latitudes, smothering Europe, Asia and North America to about 45-50 degrees latitude with a thick sheet of ice. However, there is now so much CO2 in the air, as a result of fossil-fuel burning and deforestation, that this adds a heat-trapping greenhouse effect that will offset the cooling impacts of orbital shift, said Crowley. "Even the level that we have there now is more than sufficient to reach that critical state seen in the model," he said. "If we cut back some, that would probably still be enough." In September, a scientific research consortium called the Global Carbon Project (GCP) said that atmospheric concentrations of CO2 reached 383 parts per million (ppm) in 2007, or 37 percent above pre-industrial levels. Present concentrations are "the highest during the last 650,000 years and probably during the last 20 million years," the report said.

POPSCanon supports secret garden in urban jungle to Greenwash their waste example of public-private partnership to support a local community garden in NYC. This is a call for community participation. Canon partnered with the American Park Network to offset their carbon with the purchase of trees. The APN then donates trees to local parks and works with community groups to plant them. It would be a cool deal, but it's not much coming from canon. Not while they continue to produce highly wasteful print cartridges, and as far as I can see still haven't come out with a refillable cartridge. Canon is so so NOT GREEN!

POPSA thaw could release a flood of greenhouse gases Permafrost is defined as permanently frozen ground that remains at or below zero degrees Celsius for two years or longer. It contains organic material that typically decomposes slowly. But when permafrost thaws, bacteria and fungi break down the carbon contained in the organic matter much more quickly, releasing it into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide or methane -- greenhouse gases.

POPSOffsetting carbon offsets Aren't you pissed off? I have an idea. This would be a company that receives payments to support the usage of fossil fuels to offset the ridiculous carbon offset scams that are fraudulently bilking morons out of their money. Here is how it would work. If your carbon footprint is lower than Al Gore's, then you pay carbon offset offsets to projects that increase the use of fossil fuels for the purpose of increasing your carbon footprint to equal that of Al Gore's. Is this NOT BRILLIANT? And get this, it is not a scam. It is helping to defeat a scam and render the practice of scammers useless.

POPSHoly Cows: The great carbon offset con The Carbon Offset high priests have made it really easy for us to salve our consciences. We don’t have to go to confession, say Hail Marys, or do any other that old-fashioned embarrassing stuff. All we have to do is pay an offset fee when we buy our airline tickets and they’ll toddle off and plant some trees on our behalf. These trees are supposed to offset the carbon you just dumped into the atmosphere by absorbing it. It’s that simple. Or is it?

POPSA Maverick Climate Policy
For example, in Phase I of the European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme, which started three years ago, a huge misallocation of emissions quotas led to a collapse in the price of carbon from $40 to 40 cents. At that price, there was no incentive to reduce emissions, which is why Phase I was an abject failure. Even a functioning cap could have only a limited effect on emissions. Energy-intensive industries would have every incentive to move their operations to countries without carbon controls, like China. As a result, McCain's plan would cause a net reduction not of greenhouse gas emissions, but of American jobs. The Arizona senator's plan might not shrink emissions, but it will surely grow government. (and raise billions of dollars) McCain does not offset this increase in government revenue with tax cuts elsewhere in the budget, so government would get bigger. He has said that he wants to promote "green jobs," and indeed he would be doing so, by adding green bureaucrats.

POPSCarbon Neutral Business and Planting Trees to offset CO2 This is an interesting calculation. The practise of planting trees to offset carbon emissions has been praised and questioned. While planting trees can only be a good thing, whether it is as effective as cutting down emissions is doubtful. Ideally, businesses would do both.

POPSan argument against climate catastrophism
"The marriage of environmental catastrophism and corporate interests is best captured in the figure of Al Gore. As a politician, he came to public light as a shill for two immense power schemes in the state of Tennessee: the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Oak Ridge Nuclear Laboratory. Gore is not, as he claims, a non-partisan green; he is influenced very much by his background. His arguments, many of which are based on grotesque science and shrill predictions, seem to me to be part of a political and corporate outlook." "In my forthcoming book, A Short History of Fear, I explore the link between fearmongering and climate catastrophism. For example, alarmism about population explosion is being revisited through the climate issue. Population alarmism goes back as far as Malthus, of course; and in the environmental movement there has always been a very sinister strain of Malthusianism. This is particularly the case in the US where there has never been as great a socialist challenge

POPSTaxing Babies for Projected Consumption As this potential alternate agenda today is swirling up amidst the global warming hustle I think others will also soon rise to the surface and among them we may see the true and real agendas behind this facade; this willy-nilly "manmade global warming" which is made of more hot air than any of these exaggerated, highly contested projections they think wew are dumb enough to buy into. There are some, I believe, who will be saying it is this one right here that has been let slip out of the bag and is one of the truer intentions of the puppeteers pulling Al Gore's and the U.N.'s strings. Global population reduction ~ even elimination ~ on a mass scale. I'm not in line with that myself but I'll bet you hear Alex Jones claiming just that this very night on his radio show.

POPSReport Finds Deforestation Offers Very Little Money Compared To Potential Financial Benefits Right on! Finally! Perhaps, it is not too late. The same logic would have to apply to the owners of forests everywhere. It would make woodland an even better investment than it is now. Properly worked woodland can already combine income and capital appreciation far in excess of financial assets. The only risk is fire. So it would be worth investing in the best fire prevention measures and constant monitoring.
