The 79 Billion Dollar Climate Scam
merrie
by merrie  11-29-2009    1
Skeptics Handbook II! Global Bullies Want Your Money Finally, Part II in the Skeptics Handbook series – the bluster and bluff, the deceit, and the money. Enjoy & Share. * The short synopsis of how we paid to find a crisis. * The one flaw that wipes out the catastrophe. (They can be right about carbon but wrong about water… and that eliminates two-thirds of their predicted warming.) * Nine behaviours of the real deniers — there are lots of ways to deny the evidence. * How carbon dioxide greens the world, why clouds dominate the climate, and if carbon didn’t cause the recent warming, what else might have? *The short summary of the baseless hockey stick graph, with a devastating map of the vast array of peer reviewed information that demonstrates just how brazen the Hockey Stick “re-interpretation” of history was.

Who says it's green to burn woodchips?
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  10-25-2009    2
Almuth Ernsting from Biofuelwatch said: "It's almost unbelievable that we're creating vast areas of monoculture, mile after mile, just to be cut down as fast as they grow, to be shipped thousands of miles to be burned just for people's electricity. It just doesn't make sense. What about all the habitat that gets destroyed along the way?" Arrrghhh!!!! Please pass on ... retweet ... whatever. Somewhere I line must be drawn. See how woodlands can support multiple livings, and how complex they really are... www.worldwidewood.wordpress.com.

Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble Warns "Friends of The Earth"
merrie
by merrie  3-30-2009    1
A cap-and-trade plan would create a huge new market in emissions permits at a time when Wall Street and Washington have their hands full figuring out how to police existing markets. One key element in all the climate proposals floated so far is the use of “offsets,” or the ability to purchase emissions reductions made somewhere else. As Friends of the Earth says in a new report, “Subprime Carbon”: Given the lack of proven mechanisms to govern commodities, it is imprudent to so hastily create the largest derivatives market in the world and foist it upon a new and untested regulatory regime. One possible side effect of the financial-market fallout and concerns about more toxic assets? Growing support for a straight carbon tax, rather than a complicated cap-and-trade plan.

Why we need high oil prices
egoldstein
by egoldstein  6-23-2008    76
I know this sounds crazy, but i honestly believe that high oil prices in the short term (1-5 years) is a very good thing if it forces us to find alternatives. I am definitely concerned that if oil prices drop temporarily, the momentum behind alternatives such as wind and solar will die off - leaving us exactly where we are today - way too dependent on oil and way to harmful to our environment.

Hedge Fund Traders Chasing Carbon Off-Sets
merrie
by merrie  12-8-2007
The Kyoto Protocol allows 36 rich countries to meet limits from 2008-12 on their production of greenhouse gases by buying emissions rights from developing nations. About 190 countries attending the Dec. 3-14 meeting in Bali are edging towards launching negotiations on a successor deal to Kyoto, which is deemed too weak to win the battle against climate change. Delegates were expected to draft on Saturday the first details of a negotiating agenda.

Well, we now have pocketsize computers with computing power of a big mainframe computers of the 60's look like a big toy computer. And we have more jobs available than ever before.
