1941 National Park Service Photo Mural
alanocu
by alanocu  5-1-2008    4
"In 1941 the National Park Service commissioned noted photographer Ansel Adams to create a photo mural for the Department of the Interior Building in Washington, DC. The theme was to be nature as exemplified and protected in the U.S. National Parks. The project was halted because of World War II and never resumed." I included the entire set, so the clip is REALLY long. - you may want to view when you have more time. At the source page, you can download any of these photos in much higher resolution. I scaled them all to 500 px wide for the clipmark.

Ancient Maya sacrificed boys not virgin girls
Deepti
by Deepti  1-23-2008    4
"It was thought that the gods preferred small things and especially the rain god had four helpers that were represented as tiny people," said de Anda. It is difficult to determine the sex of skeletons before they are fully matured, said de Anda, but he believes cultural evidence from Mayan mythology would suggest the young victims were actually male

We went here a few years back, and loved it. It's near ruby falls if you know where that is. Haven't been to ruby falls, but heard that's quite amazing too. Kaitlynn, my daughter, was in her "don't look at me and definitely don't take pictures of me" stage. She's a ham for the camera again now.
