POPSStunningly Precarious Mountain and Cliff Dwellings FTA: We humans like a bit of adventure, as a rule. We drive fast, we hang glide, we even eat bacon with breakfast. But for the most adventurous among us, nothing is better than living in a dangerously precarious house. These houses are perched high on cliffs and mountains, giving their residents thrilling and, we would imagine, somewhat frightening views.

POPSAnother Environmental "Solution" Starts To Fall Apart Signaling a major retrenchment, European Union legislators on Monday proposed ratcheting back an ambitious target to raise Europe's use of biofuels. "I think when we will look back we will say this was the beginning of a turning point for Europe on biofuels," said Juan Delgado, a research fellow specializing in energy and climate change expert at Breugel, a research organization in Brussels. "It will be very difficult now for Europe to stick by its targets." http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/07/07/business/fuel.php Another Environmental "Solution" Starts To Fall Apart: EU Infatuation With Ethanol Grows Cold, Canada, Too http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/07/08/another-environmental-solution-starts-to-fall-apart-eu-infatuation-with-ethanol-grows-cold-canada-too/#more-5814

POPSMusic and art mixed in the stone age The sound of a cave's echo when singing would have sounded good, and percussion instruments are good to help a few singers sing to the same beat. Art is another form of communication, They would have sang about things that they identified with, but theres something about people that makes them want to keep a record, to show others what has been going on. Stories can change, but art can be permanent. A way to show the children and descendants how they lived, and the cave paintings could showing how, and what to hunt.

POPSIntelligent Design and Evolution They are at it still, hell bend for dragging the science that permitted them to even evaluate into the toilet of eternal ignorance. Creationism and intelligent design are a strictly philosophical theory. Non-Science. Evolution may or may not be as complete in our journey of discovery, since many things are not found yet, but to pretend this is about intelligent design as a science would be going back, repeating history. Some of us are trying to move into the 21st century and beyond, not into the middle ages or 18th century. If they plan creationism and intelligent design as a serious science to be the centerpiece of USA's science, we will loose the competition with the rest of the world. Do they, the creationists, ever consider the consequences for real science, or are they just so in love with godliness, that they cannot be here for real? Be real, evolution has given you a chance to move forward, not back into the caves.

POPSDublin Zoo: Nature's Way is Best Way I was reminded of this while visiting last week. I'm a member and had been informed of this in our newsletter. In the brand new extensive Zoo area, two new caves have been born. I love visiting my relatives with my grandchild.

POPSFive questions for a galactic visitor The simple fact is that certain people have always opposed progress while other, better people have driven it. "Experts" decried boiled water as unhealthy compared the vital stuff straight from the river, cursed antibiotics as a temporary placebo, and confidently declared that computers were nothing but expensive toys. As an intelligent species we must make every effort to contact anyone or thing we can - and if you don't like it, there are some lovely caves you can move back to. what are your questions?

POPSPhotoGallery / Wall Paintings in the Afghan Region of Bamiyan The world was in shock when in 2001 the Taliban destroyed two ancient colossal Buddha statues in the Afghan region of Bamiyan. Behind those statues, there are caves decorated with precious paintings from 5th to 9th century A.D. The caves also suffered from Taliban destruction, as well as from a severe natural environment, but today they have become the source of a major discovery. Scientists have proved, thanks to experiments performed at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), that the paintings were made of oil, hundreds of years before the technique was “invented” in Europe.

POPS"Cave Dwellers" series pics "'Palestinian 'cave-dwellers' are local community who traditionally inhabit caves in the Hebron hills. Their lives have been almost unaffected by modern times for the past 200 years. In the last three decades the small and traditional community has sometimes found itself in a fierce and violent battle over the land. In the 70s Israel has declared the area as 'closed military area' Four times the residents have been expelled from their land."
