POPSRice Says She Won't Block Strikes Against Nuclear Sites "We don't say yes or no to Israeli military operations; Israel is a sovereign country," Ms. Rice said. "Every day that the centrifuges continue to spin brings Iran closer to a nuclear weapons capability and threatens the stability and security of the region and the world," Israel's ambassador in Washington, Sallai Meridor, said. "The international community should immediately apply additional robust sanctions." The Security Council, which has imposed three rounds of mild sanctions on Iran since 2006, has traditionally taken its time before agreeing on compromise action that manages to satisfy Russia, China, and several European countries that prefer conducting business with Iran to halting its nuclear run . The process is also very slow, the American U.N. ambassador, Zalmay Khalilzad, acknowledged yesterday.

POPSNow Bush Is Appeasing Iran joined envoys from France, Britain, Russia, China and Germany in talks with Saeed Jalili -- Iran's nuclear negotiator and an Ahmadinejad confidant -- about incentives to give to Tehran. ven with record oil prices, mismanagement has driven the Iranian economy into the ground. On July 14, the Ministry of Housing reported an "historical" 125% rise in housing prices. The same day, Tabnak, a news Web site run by a former head of the IRGC, admitted foodstuff inflation had reached 50% annually. On July 8, 2008, a National Iranian Oil Company executive acknowledged in the Iranian press that, without significant investment in infrastructure, Iranian oil production would decline each year by 300,000 barrels a day. In the past month alone, Iranian workers have struck for unpaid wages at the Khodro automotive plant (which assembles Peugeots), the Alburz Tire Company, and the Haft Tapeh Sugar Cane factory.

POPSIranian Bomb: Still 2010-2015? Or 2008? The 2008 or 2009 estimate is easy to understand—Iran could, with the current 1,968 centrifuges operating at 1.5-2.0 kg SWU per year and assuming 4.8 t SWU/a to produce 25 kg of 90 percent HEU, produce a significant quantity of HEU in 14-19 months or, say, September 2008-February 2009.

POPS Diplomats Say UN Probe Of Iran Nukes A Failure
Ahmadinejad said last month that Iranian scientists were putting 6,000 new uranium enriching centrifuges into place, about twice the existing number, and testing a new type that works five times faster. But the diplomat who provided details on the report said it will say the rate of expansion has been much below that touted by Ahmadinejad. He and other diplomats close to the IAEA previously said Iran has exaggerated its progress and is having problems operating the 3,000 centrifuges already in place. Additionally, the diplomat speculated Tuesday that Iran might be holding back on a quick build-up of enrichment capabilities hoping it will be easier to come to terms with the U.S. administration that will succeed President Bush, known for his hard-line Iran policies. The commonly accepted figure for a nuclear enrichment program can be used as a platform for a full industrial-scale program that could churn out enough enriched material for dozens of nuclear warheads over time.

POPSNo WMD in Iran? Really? The Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control is not so sure about the comforting news in the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran. They see considerable evidence that Iran's bomb-development capacities are strong and growing.

POPSDecision time for US over Iran threat Will the *free world* repeat history and drag it's feet...allowing another insane dictator to hold it hostage? We are hearing it from all sides now; not just the US. So is the intell bogus? Is the threat real? Will we all be safer next year, having spent the time with *diplomatic* appeals?

POPS Warhead Built Within A Year UN's Nuclear Watchdog Russian officials yesterday called for patience, insisting Iran could still clinch a deal with the international community in the next few weeks. They pointed to other parts of the IAEA report showing Tehran had been cooperating with the agency's inspectors on other nuclear issues. "We are most concerned to prevent Iran being cornered so that they walk out of the Non Proliferation Treaty, and break relations with the IAEA," one Russian source said. He said Chinese officials were stepping up diplomatic pressure on Iran, with Moscow, to avert a collision. "They are on high alert that something has to be done quickly," the source said

POPSNuclear Israel Likely to Attack Iran on False Claims
Israel possesses a nuclear arsenal supplied by the U.S.. Iran does not. Israel has attacked Lebanon and Syria. Iran has never attacked anyone. The U.S. has attacked two countries. Iran is developing nuclear power, not nuclear weapons. Iran has a right to self defense. Iran has never threatened to militarily attack Israel, only rejected the political legitimacy of the Zionist state arbitrarily carved out of Palestine by the UN under pressure of WWII. (Erased from a political map, not bombed into annihilation). Yet the corporate media does not want you to know these naked facts, but fully supports the Israeli, neoconservative, Bush-Cheney rhetoric of Iran starting a "nuclear holocaust"--a pack of blatant lies just like WMD in Iraq. Israel it appears will start this war, and the neocon Bush-Cheney administration wants them to before their term is up. War time always has improved political ratings also and could give the neo-republicans a boost over Ron Paul and the rest.

POPSIran has 3,000 centrifuges Ahmadinejad at new air base near Afghanistan: Iran has reached goal of 3,000 centrifuges for uranium enrichment. Within a year's time, Iran will be able to produce a nuclear weapon. That, coupled with a new airbase at Birjand, means that Iran will be better able to defend it's nuclear installations and be a threat to US-led NATO forces fighting terrorists in Afghanistan.

POPSInsiders view on IRAN War !!!
"This would result in a dramatic increase in attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq, attacks by proxy forces like Hezbollah, and an unknown reaction from the wobbly states of Afghanistan and Pakistan, where millions admire Iran's resistance to the Great Satan. "As disastrous as Iraq has been," says Mann, "an attack on Iran could engulf AmHe repeated his firm belief that the White House had to draw up a road map with real solutions to the division of Jerusalem and the problem of refugees, something with final borders. That was the only remedy to the crisis in the Middle East.erica in a war with the entire Muslim world." "When Mann and Leverett went public with the inside story behind the impending disaster with Iran, the White House dismissed them. Then it imposed prior restraint on them, an extraordinary episode of government censorship. Finally, it threatened them. "Now they are afraid of the White House, and watching what they say. But still, they feel they have to speak out."

POPS Blocking Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions As the new member of the policy team, Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte has been given this assignment. His task is to start afresh and to reexamine our position today, our national interests, and our options. Specifically, the President and the Secretary have asked Negroponte to be inventive in exploring options between acquiescence and attack that best protect and advance American national interests. The task is to be inventive, to be prepared to use all the sticks and carrots in the American arsenal, and, indeed, everything in the international arsenal that can feasibly be mobilized to this end. Our operational objective, the President reiterated, is to prevent Iran acquiring nuclear weapons within the foreseeable future, by which he said he means at least five years.

POPSTHE LIE OF THE CENTURY Powell also claimed to the United Nations that the photo on the left showed "Decontamination Vehicles". But when United Nations inspectors visited the site after the invasion, they located the vehicles and discovered they were just firefighting equipment. Powell claimed the Iraqis had illegal rockets and launchers hidden in the palm trees of Western Iraq. None were ever found. Powell claimed that the Iraqis had 8,500 liters (2245 gallons) of Anthrax. None was ever found. Powell claimed that Iraq had four tons of VX nerve gas. The UN had already confirmed that it was destroyed. The only VX ever found were samples the US had left as "standards" for testing. When the UN suspected that the US samples had been used to contaminate Iraqi warheads, the US moved quickly to destroy the samples before comparison tests could be carried out. If you want to know more go to the link and read it all.

POPSThe democracy in Iran supporting nuke programm Maybe the bush admin will invade iran on the same ground as they did for iraq; based on a resolution of the Security Council, blaming the government for concealing nuke activities and nuclear weapon, whose information is completely false. And Japan will support the war of course.
