Facts? We don't need no stinkin Facts.
oscarrob
by oscarrob  Yesterday 5:27 PM    1
"Palin again, a few days ago: “Our opponent is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.” At the end of the nineteen-sixties, when Bill Ayers was a leader of the New Left’s most destructive, self-destructive, and delusional splinter, Barack Obama was a small boy living with his mother in Indonesia. The fact that thirty years later Obama and Ayers sat on a couple of the same nonprofit boards tells us no more about Obama’s politics and character than does the fact that another member of one of those boards was Arnold R. Weber, the former president of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago and a donor of fifteen hundred dollars to the McCain campaign. Ayers and Obama are not now, nor have they ever been, pals."

How Much Is That Pastor In the Window?
bryanknelson
by bryanknelson  10-11-2008
Come on Joel...let's fight against the mentality that churches simply want to get into your pockets. How much did Jesus charge for communicating the gospel in the Bible? Oh, I forgot...NOTHING! We don't charge for the light show at TBC. Want to know why? It communicates that we don't want the money of our guests. It communicates that it's a free gift to the community. It communicates that we want anyone to come to the event, even if you can't afford a car or car radio (we'll play it via boombox for you). There's a family attending TBC since the light show. They decided to attend because it blew them away that we didn't charge a penny or even take donations. Did the event cost TBC something? You bet you — on all fronts (money, time, volunteers, risk). Was it worth not charging? Judge by the width of God's smile. OK, you really can't — but I wonder which communicates a more positive feeling in the end about who Jesus is and what He came for. That's a message EVERYONE s

SC Lowcountry Gas Prices Continue to Decline
OnlyinLowcountry
by OnlyinLowcountry  10-11-2008
Is there another factor at work here? Gasoline sellers do seem to take their time when lowering the price of gas. Wholesalers charge retailers the maximum amount possible, because they do want to make money. This in turn makes the gasoline sellers want to keep prices as high as they can for as long as they can, to make a dollar or to recover costs. So it appears that they don’t lower their prices until inventories build up and they have to move product.

Royal Dutch Shell to go to Trail for Complicity in Torture and Murder of Nigerian Protesters
zizzy
by zizzy  10-9-2008    1
Nigeria has been chief among Shell’s assets for many years. Critics charge that with the aim of production at any cost, regardless of the damage to the surrounding people and land, Shell disrupted thousands of lives and wreaked havoc on the environment. In the early 1990’s, the people of Nigeria began to protest. Shell made payments and provided arms to security forces that they knew to be abusive to local communities. The military government violently repressed the demonstrations and arrested and bribed witnesses. Nine leaders of the demonstrations were murdered, including the aforementioned well-known activist and writer, Ken Saro-Wiwa.

Petraeus Talk Bolsters Obama
ratilfar
by ratilfar  10-9-2008    10
Cont.... Petraeus also came out unambiguously in his talk at Heritage for opening communications with America’s adversaries, a position McCain is attacking Obama for endorsing. Citing his Iraq experience, Petraeus said, “You have to talk to enemies.” He added that it was necessary to have a particular goal for discussion and to perform advance work to understand the motivations of his interlocutors. Yet Petraeus emphasized throughout his lecture that reaching out to insurgent groups — some “with our blood on their hands,” he said — was necessary to the ultimate goal of turning them against irreconcilable enemies like Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Does anyone know Obama has visited Pakistan, just before being mysteriously flooded with cash for attending expensive universities and purchasing a multi million dollar home? His two college roomates were Pakistani, who are now in charge of raising offshore campaign contributions for him? Michelle Obama's personal advisor is an Iranian. And Rezko arranged for Obama's first job as a lawyer - where is Rezko from? Syria. Beware this Trojan Horse.

Toy Robot Intended to Save Humans
balthazarus
by balthazarus  10-7-2008
This narrative, crafted by Hugo award winner Tony Daniel and University of Texas performance professor Thomas Riccio, is intended to make Zeno into a character that people identify with and want to to see develop — something with the depth of a movie character or a figure from a Homerian epic. That makes Zeno into as much of a sociological experiment as it is a technical marvel or fun toy. "The idea is to create a cultural phenomenon and accelerate the use and humanization of the technology," Where story, game, reality, toys are not differentiable anymore.

Markets Fall: Government Throws Away More Money
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  10-7-2008
You don't have to be a lawyer to know if someone is lying -- But when a lawyer catches a witness in a lie it is often the beginning of the end. What caught my eye in this clip is: the government (USA) "will begin paying interest on the reserves that banks leave on deposit." Humm....we print the money...we give the money to the banks at super low interest rates...now the banks can give us back the money and charge us interest!? The next big part of the plan is to buy unsecured loans for threatened banks that may go out of business. Humm...Note: Other countries are buying assets or Number One Preferred Stock...meaning they get paid first if these banks fail. Also, rather than seeking to "inspire confidence," some suggest it would be better to dole out the cash for every new loan the banks make...which is what we want them to actually do. Other lies: "optional," warrents; & "mark to market," valuations. While our house burns, these alleged "firefighters," are steali

Rates are also surging in the commercial paper market that many U.S. companies use to finance their day-to-day operations. Yields on overnight U.S. commercial paper jumped 0.94 percentage point to 3.68 percent. `The Federal Reserve must now act as a clearing house'' for banks and ``must also take another bold step: outright purchases of commercial paper, said Bill Gross, manager of the world's biggest bond fund at Newport Beach, California-based Pacific Investment Management Co. Europe's Dow Jones Stoxx 600 Index having its steepest intraday decline since 1987 and emerging markets, until now the locomotives of the world economy, hit particularly hard: exchanges in Russia and Brazil halted trading. One less complicated step would be for central banks to lower rates in concert. Traders are betting that the Bank of England will lower rates at a meeting this week, and that the Fed will cut its benchmark by at least half a point at or before an Oct. 28-29 gathering.

An excerpt from an article on the Real John McCain; not the fairy tale that he's been selling in Washington for decades. Whether you plan to vote for him or not, it's worth it to read this article. Find out about the unstable, antisocial, laissez-faire lout that half of Americans want in charge of their military and nuclear arsenal. If his history (even after Viet Nam) is any example, he should be nuking Iran and Russia by about July 2009
