Tired of Divisive Whining - Not John
oscarrob
by oscarrob  10-23-2008
Do these guys have anything to say? Even republicans I know who are voting for them think this is divisive and bad for the country. What really disturbs me is the continued mantra - "the full extent of the relationship with Senator Obama is not known." In his mind no explanation will be good enough. It is the most despicable, divisive and detestable kind of attempted smear. Forget that Obama, the campaign, FactCheck.org, and many media outlets have said that the relationship consisted of participation on the charitable

Ayers and Obama
oscarrob
by oscarrob  10-6-2008    1
The fact that they are now calling Obama a terrorist because of this is outrageous, even given all the facts. Assume that Obama knew Ayers history, so what? Are you going to resign in protest from a charitable board, or refuse to be recruited because 30 years ago the guy recruiting you was a bomber protesting the Vietnam War, gave himself up to the FBI, who (shock and dismay) blew the intelligence so they had no case. That makes you a terrorist? I must be a hardened criminal because I worked on a loading dock once with a guy who I knew was a loan shark. John McCain consorted with financial criminals who stole money from poor retirees who lost everything in the S&L crisis, he must be a criminal too and a thief and someone who would let retirees pensions disappear on purpose. Actually he's also a racist because he accepted an endorsement from a pastor who was know as a racist. No wait, he's a rampant liberal because he consorted and even sposored legislation with Ted Kennedy.

It was reported last month that he had been readying their oldest child, Nell, to take over his Newman’s Own salad dressings company, the profits of which are given to a charitable foundation. He also has two daughters from his first marriage to Jackie Witte. Newman has so far declined to comment on his condition, apart from saying he is ‘doing nicely’. Rumours about his health surfaced in January. Three months ago, he withdrew from directing a production of

U2 Bono's bullshit: still clowning around with the rich and powerful.

 1. up to the conscience and the morals of Bono to lawfully arrange his personal tax affairs as he sees fit. 2. open to Bono to use his public profile to put his personal political views to the public But, what is at the same time hypocritical, laughable and unacceptable is for Bono to have the gall to avoid taxes and at the same time chastise others (governments, individuals, corporations and supra-national bodies) for meanness in the area of aid and to hector others for loans to basket-case countries to be written off. Unless, that is, he does like Bill Gates and forms his own charitable foundation from his wealth.

Origins: In conjunction with the release of the song "What Kind of World Do You Want" by the pop group Five for Fighting, that band's lead singer, John Ondrasik, launched a new web site in February 2007 as part of a fundraising effort for various charities. On that web site, whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com, users are invited to upload and view videos describing how to make the world a better place. For each video viewed, funds are allocated to charitable organizations, including the following: * Augie's Quest (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis research) * Autism Speaks (Autism research) * Fisher House Foundation (Housing for relatives of hospitalized service members) * Save the Children (International relief and development organization for children) * United Service Organization (Provides morale, welfare and recreation for service members) Initially money was raised when site visitors clicked on sponsor messages that were attached to the end of uploaded

BILL & HILL'S LATEST INTRIGUE
merrie
by merrie  12-21-2007    5
Moreover, reports the Times, the foundation's donations are up 70 percent since Hillary's campaign got under way - with two-thirds of the money coming from just 11 donors. For his part, the former president says he'll be happy to start naming names and amounts - but not until Hillary is elected. Even then, he says, past donors will remain anonymous, "unless there is some conflict of which I am aware." However, he insists, "there is none." Pardon us if we don't simply take his word for it. Again, the possibilities for using the foundation for influence-peddling are enormous - and, sad to say, Team Clinton doesn't exactly have an illustrious record in safeguarding against any abuse. Unless there is something they don't want us to know, the Clintons should provide some genuine transparency and make the names and amounts public.

Campaign Receives Funds From Terror Suspects
merrie
by merrie  11-5-2007    1
Earlier this year, Clinton agreed to return some $50,000 in illegal donations from a Pakistani businessman after news broke that the FBI sought him for fraud. The donor, Abdul Rehman Jinnah, recently surrendered to U.S. authorities after fleeing the country. Clinton also has vowed to return $850,000 in dirty cash raised by outlaw Chinese donor Norman Hsu. During her 2000 Senate campaign, Clinton had to return a $50,000 check from another Muslim leader – Agha Saeed – after it was revealed he backed Palestinian suicide attacks on Israel. She had received a plaque from him at a $500-a-ticket fundraiser sponsored by his group, the American Muslim Alliance.

Flagship Terror Trial Ends In Defeat For Bush
cptenaud
by cptenaud  10-23-2007
Bush’s prosecutors tried unsuccessfully to convince the jury that the foundation supported terrorism by sending more than $12 million to charitable groups, known as zakat committees, which build hospitals and feed the poor. The prosecution contended they were controlled by Hamas and contributed to terrorism by helping Hamas spread its ideology. Now that’s an American concept to be proud of isn’t it; prosecute people and organizations for supporting charitable giving to the poor and the restriction of free speech. Who were the impartial witnesses? Israeli intelligence agents, using fake names. Now that’s credible. Defendent Elashi’s daughter Noor, who was in the courtroom every day during the trial said she considered her father a hero. He was singled out for feeding and clothing and educating the children of Palestine. Giving charity to the Palestinian people has become a crime in this country. I don't know this country anymore. January 1st, 2009 can't come too soon.

US Men earning less than their Dad's did.
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  6-3-2007    2
"There is clearly some story here that productivity gains are not trickling down to the median family," said John Morton, a co-author of the study and the managing director of economic policy initiatives at the Pew Charitable Trusts. The study's authors, who plan to examine relative mobility, or the ability of Americans to move up or or down in social strata, said their report shows the canonical belief in an American meritocracy may be unraveling. "The expectation that each generation will do better than their parents has become a fundamental part of what we call 'The American Dream,'" said Morton. "But this new analysis suggests this bedrock belief may be shifting under our feet."
