Rangel Wants To Cut* Taxes!
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 4:55 AM    2
44% would be the highest top marginal rate in 23 years, eliminating even the fallacious "we did well enough with higher taxes under Clinton" argument.

November 11: The Charlie Brown story.. wonderful war story
egsnyder
by egsnyder  11-11-2008
This true story, untold for years and years, has become somewhat of a legend in recent years since pilot Lt. Charles Brown actually met Franz Stigler, the German pilot who, instead of shooting down Charlie Brown, led his crippled bomber back to England. Another wonderful calendar-driven story from Eric "CalendarWallah" Snyder. I love to use the Multicultural calendar to bring the richness and realities of history to life.

Newsweek Editors: “Creepy,” “Deeply Manipulative,” “Creature”
merrie
by merrie  11-9-2008    4
THOMAS: He writes about this metaphor being a screen upon which Americans will project. He said they want of Barack Obama; I’m not sure I am Barack Obama. We don’t know anything about him. It’s creepy, never seen a victory speech with nobody on stage, what is this making fun of Biden, by the way? ROSE: Mmm! THOMAS: He had — he has the self-awareness to know that this creature he’s designed isn’t necessarily a real person, and he’s self-aware enough – ROSE: Ahhhhhh! RUSH: Ahhhh. Charlie Rose, light goes on, ahhhh. Self-aware enough to know that this creature he’s designed isn’t necessarily a real person. That is fear. These guys are looking at Obama and they’ve seen him the exact way we have, all of this time. They only now after they think they got him into office are now starting to talk about their fears about how nobody knows anything about him, his resume is thin, he’s only written two books, and they’re autobiographies, we don’t know what other books he’s read. The Reign of Lame Falls Mainly on McCain
merrie
by merrie  11-6-2008    11
The winner is Obama because now he can start hanging out in public with Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright again. John McCain is a winner because he can resume buying more houses. And for only the second time in her adult life, Michelle Obama was proud of her country. And we're all winners because we will never again have to hear McCain say, "my friends." After Bill Clinton won the 1992 presidential election, Hillary Clinton immediately announced that, henceforth, she would be known as "Hillary Rodham Clinton." So maybe Obama can now become B. Hussein Obama, his rightful name. For now, we have a new president-elect. In the spirit of reaching across the aisle, we owe it to the Democrats to show their president the exact same kind of respect and loyalty that they have shown our recent Republican president. Starting tomorrow, if not sooner.

Presidential First Dogs

The last dog is of course, little Barney. I personally liked the First Cat Socks best, but I'm a cat person. I wonder what the new First Dog will be named? "Bark Obama", I heard. .:) Harry S. Truman & Feller The 33rd President once famously said, "You want a friend in Washington? Get a dog." Evidently he didn't care much for friends, as he regifted a cocker spaniel, given to him as an unsolicited Christmas present in 1947, to the White House physician. Dog lovers around the country assailed the President for surrendering Feller, who came to be known as The Unwanted Dog.

Reasons Not to Vote for Barack Obama,
merrie
by merrie  11-4-2008    1
In His Own Words . . . . . . . . Obama’s now infamous “Spread the wealth.” And in an interview with ABC News, anchor Charlie Gibson asked, “ n each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased; the government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down. So why raise it given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected? “ Obama says: “Well, Charlie, what I've said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.” Obama’s view of the First Amendment? Threats of criminal libel prosecutions, Justice Department intimidation, and no promise to veto the “Fairness Doctrine” if Congress passes it. Obama’s view of Iran, currently building nuclear reactors? “Iran … tiny … pose a serious threat to us. Michelle Obama’s views about her husband running for President? “It’s way too soon. He hasn’t done anything yet

Economic Justice, Income Redistribution, Reparations!
merrie
by merrie  11-3-2008    2
it is good for everyone. — A bombshell was released this weekend when a copy of an interview by Obama on WBEZ-FM, Chicago Public Radio, from 2001 was found (bold italics added): "The Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society ... and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused, I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that. ... I think that you can craft legal theoretical justifications for it legally, any three of us here could come up with a rational for bringing about economic change through the courts."

Election may hold surprise punch
dl211
by dl211  10-13-2008    1
But pollsters and political scientists say concern about a Bradley effect – some call it a Wilder effect or a Dinkins effect, and plenty call it a theory in search of data – is misplaced. It obscures what they argue is the more important point: there are plenty of ways that race complicates polling. Considered alone or in combination, these factors could produce an unforeseen Obama landslide with surprise victories in the South, a stunningly large Obama loss, or a recount-thin margin. In a year that has already turned expectations upside down, it is hard to completely reassure the fretters.

Remembering Charlie Brown
missmartini
by missmartini  10-10-2008
Entertaining and humourous article that pays homage to Charles Schulz's Charlie Brown. My favorite :) Like Groening, I too used to spend hours drawing Peanuts cartoons because they "looked" easy. I loved Snoopy! I wanted a beagle before I knew that they were crazy dogs. I owned a Snoopy snowcone machine - which they re-released and I saw at Urban Outfitters. I had thing for Schroeder. Thanks a million Charles Schulz!
