POPS Another Bubble Bursts Subprime mortgages were just the beginning. The dollar also plunged along the way against most global currencies, notably the euro, as the bottom chart illustrates. The dollar price of oil and the dollar-euro exchange rate are probably the two most important prices in the world. They represent a huge share of global commerce, sending signals that shape trade and capital flows. When those two prices move up and down so sharply in so short a time -- based more on fear and expectations than on economic realities -- they distort price signals and can lead to a misallocation of resources. Commodity prices have now fallen back to Earth, as the reality of global recession hits home and the Fed can't ease much further. Meanwhile, the euro has fallen from the stratosphere as Europe heads into recession and the dollar becomes a safer haven in a world of fear.

POPSDid The Bush Tax Cuts Only Help The Rich?? It is amazing how many people that fall into the above categories think Bush is screwing them. Now you know the rest of the story. So, when Barack Osama tries to tell me "95% of all Americans will get a tax break", you can see how I really question that. He will let the Bush tax breaks go (bringing rates back to Clinton levels), and then will give me about a $1,000 tax cut. Don't even get me started on the fact that only 60% of Americans pay taxes, thus Obama wants to give MORE money back to people who are not PAYING anything in. Look at those charts above. There is a $7500 difference for the married guy making over 125k a year--bush let him keep 6% more of his income (7500/125k). Looking at the poorest listed, the single making 30k, there is a $3900 difference. Bush let him keep 13% more of his income.

World stock markets have plunged after government bank bail-outs in the US and Europe failed to stem fears of slower global economic growth.
