Was the FDA Report on 'Bisphenol A' Ghostwritten?
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  Yesterday 6:44 PM    1
Buried deep in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article is a very interesting factoid: "Bisphenol A was developed in 1891 as a synthetic estrogen. It came into widespread use in the 1950s when scientists realized it could be used to make polycarbonate plastic and some epoxy resins to line food and beverage cans." About 5-10 million people were exposed to the synthetic estrogen DES between 1938-1971, and the health of so-called "DES Daughters" is still being followed due to their increased risk for vaginal and cervical cancer, reproductive tract structural differences, pregnancy complications, and infertility.

The Greenhouse Gas That Nobody Knew
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  Yesterday 4:57 AM
It's like eating mushrooms. You would soon be dead if you ate every mushroom that you didn't know was poisonous or not. The only sensible way to eat mushrooms is to only eat those you already know are not poisonous. Intelligent beings use the precautionary principle, business and technological innovators eat any mushroom / chemical they can find with the result that they (and the rest of us) are more like to end up prematurely dead. Wise men know that innovation is deadly dangerous, and that societies which are based on it risk extinction.

Fast Food: Another Name for "Corn"
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  11-11-2008
CONT'D: "In cattle, eating corn increases flatulence emissions of methane — a potent greenhouse gas — and creates an intestinal environment rich in e. coli, a common cause of food poisoning. That necessitates mixing cow feed with antibiotics, in turn producing antibiotic-resistant disease strains. Many of those livestock end up in high-calorie, low-nutrition franchised fast foods, which have been repeatedly linked to obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Fast food's biggest selling point is its low price — and that, say industry critics, is largely possible because of corn's ubiquitous cheapness. " (Emph mine)

to make them appear higher in protein I don't want my food "appear high" in anything! I want it tasty and I don't want feel myself like shit after consuming it. May be I want too much, but that is it. I asking food experts: Do you know what is a chronic poisoning, when you have virtually no chance to avoid your chunk of targeted "magic bullet" from food producers, manufacturers, packagers and repackagers? How laboratory analyzes become main sign of food quality?

The global chemical industry produces about 6 billion pounds of BPA annually, generating at least $6 billion in annual sales. The value of BPA-based manufactured goods, from cell phones and computers to epoxy coatings and dental bindings, is probably incalculable. Thoughscientists have known since the 1930s that BPA mimics estrogen in the body , for unrelated reasons, the chemical serves as an essential building block of hard, clear polycarbonate plastics and tough epoxy resins, ubiquitous materials in the modern world. "It's probably the largest volume endocrine-disrupting chemical in commerce," says Vom Saal. "This stuff is in everything." Because plastics made with BPA break down easily when heated, microwaved, washed with strong detergents or wrapped around acidic foods like tomatoes, trace amounts of the potent hormone leach into food from epoxy lacquer can linings, polycarbonate bottles and other plastic food packaging.

Carcinogens in potato chips reduced

First of all, I had NO idea about carcinogens in potato chips. I have never heard of "acrylamide" but this article has just caused me to ask, "What the hell have I been eating?" Baked potato chips have this chemical too! I know, moderation right? I know, a lot of people who have passed on from cancer and this is pretty frightening to think that all this time I've just been ingesting so much carcinogens. Dang, though, I love french fries.

Small Fuel Refinery for Ten Grand.
graphictruth
by graphictruth  7-8-2008
Feed stock, used to make the fuel, will cost about $1 per gallon, he said. ... “Henry Ford started the automobile revolution using ethanol, predicting that this renewable and accessible fuel would become the ‘fuel of the future,’ ” he said during the May launch of the Microfueler. “If not for the Prohibition laws in the 1920s and the subsequent rise of the oil industry, ethanol may never have lost its public appeal. E-Fuel will deliver on Ford’s prediction and enable consumers to bypass the costly oil infrastructure and their reliance on fossil fuels.” Butterfield is excited to be working in the field of alternative fuels again. He’s convinced that this time around, the oil market is not going to stabilize and prices will continue to rise. “I thought in 1980 the world was running out of oil. All the signs were there,” he said. “That was true back then, it’s just we were able to stave it off for 25 years. Now we can’t.”

The Corporations - Killers of Democracy

There is first of all world hunger and, on the same level of emergency, the phenomenon of global warming - both those enormous problems having to be seen as the disasters that must be dealt with in the most urgent way possible. And today, there is virtually no urgency displayed in the way those disasters are dealt with - or not dealt with. And yet, those two huge problems have to be solved if the world is going to continue in a shape even vaguely like the world as we know it. There is the planetary inequality which has caused the world hunger that finally seems to have attracted wide-spread attention. It is obviously not a recent phenomenon, but it has been enhanced by the rise in food prices, which have multiple causes - the use of food for biofuel, the rise in the price of oil for transport, the droughts in Australia and in Africa, the enormous sham of GMOs that were made out to be capable of saving the world from hunger, but instead are doing the opposite. And let's not forget
