POPSJust What the Doctor Ordered: A Massage "When you're ill, you don't necessarily get the kind of human contact we do in our daily lives," says end-of-life-care physician Dr. Jean Kutner, who was the lead author of the study. "Most of the touch you receive is related to procedures, such as getting chemo or having blood drawn."

POPSFreedom and Jeff: Inspiring Story of One Man and His Eagle
She was going to be put down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in on that Thursday afternoon. I didn’t want to go to the center that Thursday, because I couldn’t bear the thoughtof her being euthanized; of her being euthanized; but I went anyway, and when I walked in everyone was grinning from ear to ear. I went immediately back to her cage; and there she was, standing on her own, a big beautiful eagle. She was ready to live. I was just about in tears by then. That was a very good day. We knew she could never fly, so the director asked me to glove train her. I got her used to the glove, and then to jesses, and we started doing education programs for schools in western Washington. We wound up in the newspapers, on radio (believe it or not) and some TV. Miracle Pets even did a show about us. In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. I had stage 3, which is not good (one major organ plus everywhere) doing 8 months of chemo.

POPSA Mother Blogs Against Cancer Why do we write? Perhaps it is a form of anger and healing; perhaps it sets one free. It's simply amazing what a thought on paper can do for the writer and the reader.

POPSWhy people foreclose Fortunately, a consumer credit counselor intervened on DeShields behalf and he was able to work something out with his lender. But if it wasn't for the counselor, DeShields would have been thrown out of his house with a sick wife and three kids.

POPSCancer's Unexpected Blessings I truly can not identify with Tony's thinking. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I haven't been where he is. But it's an encouragement to know that, while in the midst of knowing that your days are short on this earth, Christians can find comfort and inner peace.

POPSTargeted drugs to replace chemo in treatment of cancer? Given the situation would you forgo traditional chemotherapy treatment for the use of targeted drugs.......where doctors are only just beginning to find out which combinations of targeted therapies are safe. We celebrate our war heroes but what about these people prepared to make a difficult choice during desperate times. In a well documented case the quality of life for terminal cancer patients when using the alternative tretatment. was reduced .... all in the name of science

POPSSmokable Pain Drugs Promise Faster Action I suffer severe migraines at least 2-4 times daily due to a cyst on a my brain that is inoperable. Because the only way to remove it is with chemo and/or radiation, the doctors want to leave it since it is benign, unless of course it grows. Unfortunately, for me that means continual migraines and narcolepsy symptoms that are out of my control and fighting my insurance company for getting them to pay my migraine meds because they feel I'm on too many. I agree, but what can I do really? Double unfortunately, the side effect of the narcolepsy meds are, guess what, more migraines. Hopefully some day they'll find a cure for migraines as they can be very debilitating for some people.
