POPSUproar As Top Police Cleared of Attack on Genoa G8 Protesters At least 150 police officers stormed the Armando Diaz school on the night of July 21 2001, after three days of violence in Genoa that left more than 200 people injured and a protester dead. Police chiefs later claimed the school was occupied by the violently disruptive Black Bloc faction. If that is what rank-and-file officers were told, it may explain the viciousness with which they laid into the protesters. Briton Nicola Doherty was hit so hard on an arm with which she was shielding her face that her wrist was broken. The attack put 28 of 93 people arrested in hospital - three of them on the critical list. Mark Covell, a volunteer with the Indymedia news network, was unconscious for 14 hours. He suffered eight broken ribs, a punctured lung and 10 missing or broken teeth.

POPSFrom The Department of "As If" Uncanny. Maybe I should go back and look through that victory speech for other tea leaves. And back in Iraq: Some military leaders remain wary of Obama's pledge to order a steady withdrawal of combat forces from Iraq, to be completed within 16 months -- an order advisers say Obama is likely to give in his first weeks in office. Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has called a withdrawal timeline "dangerous." Others are distrustful of a new administration they see as unschooled in the counterinsurgency wars that have consumed the military for the past seven years. Gosh - a very public order to commence withdrawals followed by very quiet back-pedaling as conditions are evaluated and re-evaluated would be awfully cynical and manipulative, wouldn't it? On the other hand, Obama has said a million times that we must be as responsible in leaving Iraq as we were careless in entering, . .

POPSU.S. Marines in Kabul Mark Corps' 233rd Birthday
U.S. MARINES ~ THE FEW ~ THE PROUD ~ Semper Fi ~ “America needs you now more than ever. You have done your country proud and we are proud of you.” The Marines closed their festivities with the traditional cutting of the cake and presentation to the oldest and youngest Marines in attendance. 2004 Marine Corps Birthday Message from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Happy 229th Birthday to the United States Marine Corps. Marines have built a legacy of warfighting excellence that has endured throughout our Nation's history — a history that continues to be written every day around the globe. The word "Marine" continues to inspire fear in our enemies, hope for those in need, and trust on the part of our allies. On behalf of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, I salute the efforts of the proud Marines serving today and those who served before. Semper Fidelis. Gen. Richard B. Myers, Gen. POPSNative America Indians Speak Out for Obama.
OMG -- Well, I lived as a neighbor of several tribes and visited several of their lands -- and I was looking for a clip of one of their noted tribal leaders or something, saying something nice about Obama --I'm hunting down the stat but heard it might be as high as 90% SUPPORT FOR OBAMA! Well, I didn't find such a clip. Maybe the chiefs are still polishing up their regalia. But I found this guy. OMG - well, I clip it here because ONE, it shows how even they had to deal with SmearHeads and TrashTalkers against Obama (like here, there, and everywhere) -- even when 90% of them voted for Obama!. TWO, well, perhaps it's good for those who don't know that Native America people are people -- not wooden statues, not living in the past, not always dressed up in ceremonial -- and very much patriotic Americans (or some unpatriotic, whatever -- just like us) The third point is tribes are not beyond bad mouthing each other - esp. anyone who might claim Indian blood and isn't no blood

POPSWho's Getting Rich Off Prohibition? Just Look Who Opposes CA's Prop. 5 Making money as the only motivation for people doing anything is NOT a good system, there has to be much more to life than just money!!! Helping people gets help in return and makes people helpful too and more willing to work together. And who wants drug addicts in prison where drugs are also available instead of being out on the streets getting help to drop the habit? The drug peddlars should be in prison, not the addicts.

POPSPacks of robots will hunt down uncooperative humans "What we have here are the beginnings of something designed to enable robots to hunt down humans like a pack of dogs. Once the software is perfected we can reasonably anticipate that they will become autonomous and become armed.

POPSThe Promised President Obama Crisis, Biden Warns What does Biden know, and what does he mean here? This part catches many reader's eyes: Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis , to test the mettle of this guy." JFK had his Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Joint Chiefs had also drawn up Operation Northwoods, a deceptive act to justify invasion of Cuba, which JFK had rejected. So Biden's reference to JFK is real interesting. ...like they did John Kennedy. Things can be done, or "generated", to force President's hands into a course of actions (by third parties), contrary to their promises, just like GWB and 9/11 which "changed everything". There is no telling just what Obama might do, but Biden seems to know something in advance, or his warning would not be so direct instead of merely hypothetical. He states this as if it is absolutely certain.s

POPSPOWELL ENDORSES OBAMA Powell served under several Republican administrations, and now he is clearly and decisively going to vote for Obama

POPSHighlights of the Powell endorsement "How are you going to say the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, the former national security adviser, former secretary of state was taken in?" - Newt Gingrich; Powell says McCain's use of Ayers "inappropriate - goes too far - We have got to stop polarizing ourselves in this way."

POPSPeace conference on Darfur opens in Sudan Speaking in the opening session today, Bashir also said a political solution should be founded on the basis of the federal system and the signed agreements. How ever he added that the negative aspects should be handled during the peace talks. During his tour to the Darfur states last July, the Sudanese President said he would invite the rebel groups and all the political forces should be associated. However, today conference was attended by the political parties member of the ruling coalition while the opposition parties were divided.

POPSBush to Keep Afghanistan Report Secret Until After Elections So, what he's basically doing here is putting a war on hold until after the election. Bush will leave the nation in danger, by their argument, so that John McCain will stand a better chance of winning the election. Remember that "country first" stuff McCain's been talking about? Time to put up or shut up, John. Time to do the right thing and pressure Bush to release the news. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen, though. "Country first" is, after all, only a slogan.

POPSWhere is the Hope? Comment on this... Not a particularly palatable topic, but well written, and a sad indictment upon the good people that may still be living in the US for delusional hope, that all can be justified. The whole darn business seems to be one friggin' mess and pack of contradictions from topic to topic, scenario to scenario ... what kind of nightmarish society is being created in the name of freedom and so-called democracy? More like "demonocracy" ... it would seem!
