Advocacy4change
by Advocacy4change  10-6-2008
I encourage all those within the community, who go out to vote this November 2008 Election year, to make your decisions not just based on issues stances but also on consistent character, virtue and temperament. Look for the candidates that do not make the popular decision, but stand on sound conviction. The networks are once again arguing and play devils' advocate over the petty follies of party loyalty and speculation instead of holding canditates accountable through substantive debate that is backed up by creditable research. Do you hate the bickering nature of politics before you that encourages disrepectfu belittlement with name calling and deceitful half truths to get ahead? I don't! It's time to put away childish things!

Congress approval rating just 10%
dl211
by dl211  10-3-2008
"A political establishment held in higher regard may have been able to hold together some kind of coalition of the willing," wrote Joel Achenbach in the Washington Post. "But distrust of the nation's leaders, from the leaders of Congress to the president, foreclosed that possibility." This was not mere rhetoric. Congress's public approval rating was down to 18% before the crisis hit. By some estimates, it is now 10% and falling. Washington has seen a "throw the bums out" mood before, notably Newt Gingrich's 1994 anti-government "Republican revolution". But this is something else. Like some others, Gingrich is calling for the resignation of Hank Paulson, the treasury secretary, for presiding over a train wreck and then failing to persuade people why $700bn was needed to get back on the rails.

Left Comprehension Gap
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  9-11-2008    3
At the root of this curious gulf of ignorance has always been the fact that the left is unable to understand that conservatives keenly understand them and the alleged rationales behind their policies. We know they think government needs an active role in social justice, that civic and free market mechanisms like business, church, and charity are insufficient to deal with poverty, urban decay, and the social pathologies that foster them. They think that in order to foster social progress, the state needs to assume active advocacy roles on a limitless range of issues. We understand. We may utterly disagree and denounce it to hell, but we understand. When conservatives see liberals, they see the proponents of bad, inefficient, and eminently corruptible state and social systems that with eye-watering predictability, corrupt those who administer them and harm their alleged beneficiaries. Often for generations.

Chauvinism as Nationalism
katsteevns
by katsteevns  9-4-2008    1
 1. Blind and absurd devotion to a fallen leader or an obsolete cause; hence, absurdly vainglorious or exaggerated patriotism. Note: To have a generous belief in the greatness of one's country is not chauvinism. It is the character of the latter quality to be wildly extravagant, to be fretful and childish and silly, to resent a doubt as an insult, and to offend by its very frankness. --Prof. H. Tuttle.

"An Einstein letter that sold at an auction in May leaves little doubt of his atheism. "The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish," he wrote in 1954, a year before his death." "And yet Einstein is famous for a number of teasingly "spiritual" quotations - "I cannot believe that God plays dice with the cosmos," for one - that suggest he is a theist. A growing body of Einsteinologists believes the physicist was using such God language metaphorically to express a human impulse for finding meaning and comfort in the clock-like workings of the universe. As he wrote in 1931:"

McCain, America's Security Is No Joke
cptenaud
by cptenaud  8-6-2008    1
Using less Middle East puts us in a stronger position to demand security in the region and fight terrorist organizations which often get much of their funding through oil profits. Using less Middle East oil could also keep us out of future wars, and save the lives of those Americans serving in uniform. According to TIME magazine, John McCain's sole idea to "drill here and drill now" won't produce oil until the year 2030, and then it will only be 200,000 barrels per day. In comparison, the government estimates that if everyone made sure their car tires were fully inflated, we could start to reduce our oil consumption by 800,000 barrels per day, right now.

Back in July of 2003, I made a page referring to A Republican Romper Room. I have always thought the "R" party quite childish with their infantile rhetoric, and here we are in 2008 and they are back in ROMPER ROOM AGAIN! . Why don't they just GROW UP and maybe together we can finally have a world run by adults. WHAT? Not if the Republican Party has anything to do with it! Obama's tire pressure remark - fact vs fiction
egoldstein
by egoldstein  8-4-2008    10
McCain has responded to Obama's suggestion that we better maintain our cars in ways that promote fuel efficiency with childish (yet somehow effective) criticism. The amazing thing these days is that facts don't seem to matter. McCain is jumping on Obama with lies and accusations that, in my opinion, discredit his own reputation for running clean, dignified campaigns.

Gergen: McCain Using Code Words To Attack Obama As "Uppity"

Cont.... "Earlier in the week, another former McCain campaign manager, John Weaver, described the ad as "childish" and wondered aloud if it diminished his stature. The Senator's own mother, Roberta McCain, while acknowledging that she had not seen the Britney spot, called the idea "stupid." And Kathy Hilton, Paris' mother, took to the Huffington Post Sunday morning to deride McCain from dragging down the intellectual thrust of the campaign."
