Stinging Talk about Obama? Never Mind Now
dulios
by dulios  11-8-2008    3
Doris Kearns Goodwin, the presidential historian, said she was hard-pressed to find a similar moment in history when the tone had changed so drastically, and so quickly, among so many people of such prominence. “I don’t think that’s happened very often,” Ms. Goodwin said. “The best answer I can give you is they don’t want to be on the wrong side of history, and they recognize how the country saw this election, and how people feel that they’re living in a time of great historic moment.”

One Flew Over The Cuckoo Nest Redux video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJrBhtnQ42U Don’t forget Al Gore as Secretary of the Navy. He’s already plying the high (and ever higher) seas aboard the BS (Bio-Solar) 1. Why not send him to face down the Somalis pirates? (“You lied! You played upon our fears!!”) Chris Matthews as Press Secretary is also a no-brainer. He’ll need the podium to hide how far up his leg that thrill has gone. The Clintons will make for entertaining bookends on the Supreme Court after Stevens and Ginsberg retire, knowing their seats will be safely handed on to like-minded lefties. (Just remember to serve the coffee in styrofoam—no china.) Also remember, everyone, not to show up the star. You are merely players. It’s Barack’s world, you just live there. Bachmann raises $400k for Opponent after calling Obama anti-American
Kelika
by Kelika  10-18-2008
"I can absolutely confirm that we have had in the last 24 hours donations from hundreds and hundreds of people from all over the country," said Tinklenberg campaign manager Anna Richey. "It's coming in so fast I can't get a hold on it and can't give a precise number. It's still coming in." At minimum, she said, $150,000 has so far been donated and she expects the total, which the campaign will release later today, to be far higher. "It's overwhelming," said Richey. "I've gotten 600 e-mail messages into our info e-mail account in the last 12 hours. People are outraged." She said a number of the e-mails decried Bachmann's call for the investigation as modern-day McCarthyism. "People shared personal stories of how their parents were discriminated against" during that time, said Richey. The messaes, she said, came from "Republicans, Democrats, people who professed to be out of work and struggling economically but wanted to give what they could."

McCain Pokes Fun At Himself As Well As "That One"
merrie
by merrie  10-16-2008    2
"This campaign needed the common touch of the working man. After all, it began so long ago with the heralded arrival of the man known to Oprah Winfrey as 'The One.' Being a friend and colleague of Barack I just called him 'That One,'" McCain said in reference to his bully-like tactics in the second presidential debate. "He doesn't mind at all. In fact, he even has a pet name for me: 'George Bush.'" In attendance Thursday night were such dignitaries as Sen. Hillary Clinton, Gov. David Paterson, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former Mayor Ed Koch. nd had some fun with MSNBC's Chris Matthews, host of "Hardball." "I told him, maverick I can do, but messiah is above my pay grade," McCain said. . . . . "So, you know I have fun with the media. We all know that the press is really an independent, civic-minded and non-partisan group … like ACORN. video @ wcbstv.com

The MSM goes off the deep end
sillysam
by sillysam  10-8-2008    3
Even Jonathan Alter of Newsweek, whom I’d normally consider in another galaxy on the responsibility scale compared to Olbermann (it’s relative), said that, perhaps, the Ayers talk from the McCain campaign is putting lives in danger. Olbermann asked why Palin doesn’t just “cut out the middle man” and call him a terrorist. In fact, Sarah Palin does not think Barack Obama is a terrorist: She worries he doesn’t appreciate the greatness that is America, or he’d have better friends. By late in the evening Olbermann had left no candidate’s mortality alone, saying that during the debate, McCain “did not look like a well man.” MSNBC is not a well network. But don’t infect the rest of us, or give crazy people any ideas or encouragement.

McCain and Email
merrie
by merrie  9-16-2008    1
So right now Obama supporters are worried that the election has become less about the issues, and more about a war between personalities. And as for being internet savvy, I'd rather have a president who talks tough, instead of some dude known for his snarky emails. I don't want my president Googling his name, reading celebrity sightings on Gawker, or leaving anonymous comments on TMZ. Our country is already turning into a nation of twelve year old girls, looking for popular kids to sign their yearbook - except those yearbooks are now blogs.

MSNBC Is Buzz Flashes "Media Putz of the Week"
zasel
by zasel  9-11-2008
I have always preferred MSNBC for cable news coverage, as they seemed to be the least influenced by right-wing threats. Unlike Fox, who claims to be "Fair and Balanced" when in fact they are Republican shills, MSNBC was far more able to claim that mantle. However, it appears that MSNBC is getting nervous because the two hosts they have who are more left than right, have been garnering complaints from the Republican Committee and the McCain campaign. Compared with remarks that O'Reilly or Hannity make on a regular basis, Olbermann et al, are quite mild. And then again, Olbermann has been, up til this week, the only truly lefty commentator, while FOX is ALL Conservative ALL the Time. But MSNBC has demoted Olbermann as well as Chris Matthews because the RNC did not like the fact that they questioned Sarah Palins qualifications for office. My God, is there nowhere fair minded people can turn any longer?

MSNBC Removes Matthews And Olbermann From Anchor Seat
merrie
by merrie  9-9-2008    3
So this new move is supposed to offer Olbermann and Matthews more freedom of expression. Olbermann’s strong left views and his harsh exchanges of words with other MSNBC hosts have been in the headlines all summer. He had no sympathy when GOP expressed anger at Internet news about Sarah Palin’s personal life. He also sarcastically dismissed Republican pundit Pat Buchanan on the air, after Buchanan said he thought the GOP had been enlivened by Sarah Palin’s vice presidential nomination. Moreover, he also couldn’t help mocking his own colleagues. As Joe Scarborough was discussing the positive developments in McCain’s campaign, Olbermann could be heard in the background, saying: “Jesus, Joe, why don't you get a shovel?” Representatives of New York Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and, more recently, Republican presidential nominee John McCain, have objected to NBC executives about the two commentators.

Olbermann's dominance brings out the worst in Matthews. Even Brokaw. They are both more balanced, when KO is nowhere in sight. An insightful eye can tell the difference when responding to Keith they are timidly stammering for words far enough in the extreme left bias to satisfy him. And their facial expression shows it - clearly. They are resentful, pressured, and under the thumb of Keith Olbermann. At a later point, with Olbermann gone, they are confident, balanced and natural. Myself, I can ferret out this kind of passive-aggressive, irresponsible phony journalism. There are just too many out there that cannot see that the line between news and amateurish blog has disappeared ~ probably for ever.

Heard on the Hill: Rollcall News: Senator Chris Matthews?

Saying What Holly-wouldn’t. Sunday’s screening of the Hollywood-goes-conservative film “An American Carol” brought out some of the movie’s principals, including Kevin Farley (brother of the late “Saturday Night Live” funnyman Chris Farley), Jon Voight and producer David Zucker, for some conservative laughs. Actor and outspoken Republican Kelsey Grammer, who plays Gen. George Patton in the film, appeared in a video to address the crowd. Grammer, who recently had a heart attack, got applause from the audience when he told them that “against doctor’s orders, I watched a little of the coronation coverage. I mean convention coverage,” referring to the Democrats’ Denver confab in which they named Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) their main man.

The sudden death this summer of NBC News Washington bureau chief Tim Russert, who made frequent appearances on MSNBC, removed a political and temperamental rudder for the network. Mr. Griffin has tried to fill the power vacuum since, struggling to shepherd the network's big personalities through a period of transition. The network drew 2.15 million viewers on its first night of convention coverage, 88% more than tuned in for the first night of the 2004 Democratic convention, according to Nielsen Media Research. MSNBC also beat Fox News among younger viewers that night. Fox News is owned by News Corp., which also owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal.network's chief played down the

"Are you Rip Van Shuster?” Scarborough asked. “Have you been sleeping for the past couple of months?” But Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, became enraged when Shuster made a reference to “your party.” Asked by Scarborough what his party was, Shuster said he was an “independent.” "I feel so comforted by the fact that you're an independent,” Scarborough said, in a mocking tone. “I bet everybody at MSNBC has independent on their voting cards. Oh, we're down the middle now.” (Shuster left the set, but returned later to hug it out, "Entourage"-style.) That night, Scarborough told NPR that he “get frustrated by people who have an obvious partisan bias that don't
