Old Obama Interview
PrettyCreatures
by PrettyCreatures  11-14-2008    1
"...in my own public policy, I'm very suspicious of religious certainty expressing itself in politics....that's different form a belief that values have to inform our public policy. I think it's perfectly consistent to say that I want my government to be operating for all faiths and all peoples, including atheists and agnostics, while also insisting that there are values that inform my politics that are appropriate to talk about."

Guilt By Association in North Carolina

First its the McCain campaign. Now its Elizabeth Dole. How shameful and how shameless. These tactics are wrong, they degrade the so-called "conservative" movement. In this case they debase Christians and God fearing people generally. Kay Hagan is a Sunday School teacher. This kind of campaigning is disgusting. Do they not know how damaging this is to themselves and to the political process? How can they look themselves in the mirror? These people are destroying American values so much they might as well be terrorists themselves. Joe McCarthy is hootin an hollerin in his grave.

Ex-Muslim Tells Pope Islam Is The Religion Of War
merrie

the general interest of Christianity and of Western civilization itself” that the Pope make a pronouncement in “a clear and binding way” on the question of whether Islam is a valid religion. The Catholic Church’s dialogue with Islam is based on the Second Vatican Council’s Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions (”Nostra Aetate”), which urged esteem for Muslims because “they adore the one God,” strive to follow his will, recognize Jesus as a prophet, honor his mother, Mary, “value the moral life and worship God especially through prayer, almsgiving and fasting.” The council called on Catholics and Muslims “to work sincerely for mutual understanding” and for social justice, moral values, peace and freedom. Allam told Pope Benedict he specifically objected to Cardinal Tauran telling a conference in August that Islam itself promotes peace but that “’some believers’ have ‘betrayed their faith,’” using it as a pretext for violence.

The Seat of Bigotry
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  10-18-2008    5
Ms. Phillips evidently doesn't engage her brain before putting her mouth in motion. Her hate filled diatribe is more suited to the middle of the last century than today's reality. Unfortunately, her sentiment is rather common. If one substitutes Jew or Muslim or Black or any other non-Christian minority for atheist it immediately becomes apparent that she is a bigoted, angry person in search of a scapegoat. Given that near 85% of Americans are Christian, her blaming the 12% for all the problems society faces is ludicrous and is indicative of profound projection on her part. Her spew sounds like it was transcribed from a speech recorded in 1930s Germany, not 21st century America. Really sad.

Now Obama a Big Spender; Baby Killer
citizenbfk

Divide & Conquer; Divide & Conquer...after the apparently failed effort to link Obama to Arabs, Muslims and "domestic terrorism," the new McCain-Palin pitch is on the sensitive and difficult topic of abortion, appealing to their evangelical Christian moralist base. Again and again I've been reminded of the words of an American writer, way back in the 1930's -- "When fascism comes to America, it will come carrying the flag and the cross." (Sinclair Lewis) It's a sad, sad issue; it's not something anybody really wants, like saying: "Wow, I want to go out today and have an abortion!" No,-- the Average Person -- the average person wants to do something like go out and buy a car, go out and have a nice meal, go out and get high, go out to the movies or a concert, go out and meet some cool people or cool person. IMO, it comes down to this: We should not be making laws to enforce our religious views on others. Using this as another "social values" issue is the real horror he

B.I.T.C.H. Condemns Sarah Palin
cptenaud
by cptenaud  9-17-2008    1
continued from article............... Fortunately, I have the gift of discerning coy sins less careful Christians — and my inattentive Savior — routinely overlook. And as founder of Bringing Integrity To Christian Homemakers, one sin pings my values radar louder than an incoming sortie of foul smelling demons: Narcissistic parents who irresponsibly spit out babies they have neither the interest nor time to care about. That’s the problem with people who regard birth as simply the end of a pregnancy, rather than the beginning of a life. Birth marks the start of work, not a self-congratulatory furlough. Absent through either a preoccupation with stoking a ravenous blast furnace of an ego (Mrs. Palin) or simply because they’d rather be fishing (Mr. Palin), the Palins selfishly make a shambles of their children’s lives. Drugs, sex, alcohol, vendetta’s and arrests! Honestly, it all sounds a bit like Gossip Girl, only in a pioneer setting with a wardrobe by Sears.

Confessions Of A Christian Political Lunatic
debbyski
by debbyski  9-12-2008
"I am a complete lunatic however when I think that everyone should have healthcare in the richest country in the world. When I think that the poor need more than fancy talk, they need real help; I am absolutely nuts. Mind you, I have actually worked with the impoverished and the disabled for the past 17 years, so maybe I am a little biased in my insanity. I just want the truth. If you line up where both candidates really stand on the issues and at the end of the day you vote for McCain because he is pro-life; so be it. Just don’t vote for him because you think that Obama is a Muslim, or doesn’t wear a flag pin, or won’t say the Pledge of Allegiance, or wants to take “in God we trust” off of currency, or is going to raise your taxes. Don’t vote for McCain because you think he represents true Christian values, is a maverick, is a reformer, or any of the other lies they keep peddling out there. None of this stuff is true and the truth should matter."

Off Limits? I Think Not
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  9-3-2008    4
Ordinarily a situiation such as the pregnancy of Sarah Palin's daughter would be off-limits but the Republican party has been the first to put it front and center as a political tool. The Holier than Anyone Right has used this to showcase how "special" their darling VP hopeful really is and the point has driven home at the RNC yesterday. That and the supposed non-political issue of McCain's POW status. Have the voters become so inured to the Republican machine that they are incapable of seeing through their deceptions and lies?

Christian Games on Young Forest Games - Truth, Compassion, Tolerance
DerekPadula
by DerekPadula  8-19-2008
Christian games can now be bought at www.YoungForestGames.com/ and I couldn't be happier! This site uses a unique ranking system based on the principles of Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance, to determine whether a game should be promoted or sold. This means that video games with too much dishonesty, hatred or violence, and intolerance, will be given low rankings, while games that are assimilated to the higher standard will be given featured positions. This is a really neat way of showing games that have upright values to people and allows the independent developers who create these games to finally have a place where their work can be respected and even given 1st place recognition.

The Long March
willhelm
by willhelm  7-20-2008    1
"much of the wacky, upside-down, right-is-wrong, black-is-white stuff we see in the news these days is directly or indirectly inspired by Gramsci: the attacks on Christianity, the family, individual freedom, morality and moral judgements; multiculturalism; the cult of victimhood, "tolerance," political correctness, the replacement of the roles of family, religion, individual responsibility and choice with government rules, laws, and regs; the expansion of the State and the Welfare State and the Nanny State; anti-tradition, anti-capitalism, anti-success, anti-nationalism, anti-Americanism and anti-Westernism, etc - all the stuff that makes me echo Bob Grant with "It's sick out there, and getting sicker." I am sure Antonio never anticipated that a Green movement would emerge to become an ally of the slow, incrementalist and thus less-alarming Gramscian revolution."

Our Genocidal track record

I know, y'all think I hate America...Not so, but I despise what the people of the USA has done in so many instances of genocidal hypocrisy...I cannot celebrate our Independence without seeing all the death and destruction we have brouht to the brown, red and yellow segments of Mankind. I'm thoroughly disgusted with 'Murrika today and especially of the last 8 years. Our collective karma is disastrous and the Empire will fall, just like all Empires do. The "Noble Experiment" in Democracy gets a big FAIL. Despite all the good we have done, the USA is a racist, war-loving, greedy, Earth-polluting, voracious nation. Pretty sad when you think about it, neh?

Yesterday the Vatican was seething at rumours that there was much more to it than protocol: George Bush, lifelong Methodist, was about to convert. The Vatican differs from the White House on immigration and the death penalty but on other issues including stem cell research, gay marriage and abortion there has been, as the Catholic daily L'Avvenire put it, "total harmony." .. Independent He'll have to become a Christian first, won't he?

Why do displays of compassion differ between East and West?
gingembre
by gingembre  6-12-2008    11
I am trying to understand A bit more: "In many Asian countries, favors invariably create obligations, which is perhaps why people are sometimes disinclined to interfere in the problems of others. You are obliged to take care of your family, your friends, or even your fellow countrymen. But the idea of universal charity is too abstract, and smacks of the kind of unwelcome interference that Western imperialists — and the Christian missionaries who followed them — practiced in the East for too long. The notion of "Asian values," promoted mostly by Singaporean official scribes, was partly a critique of universalist Western claims. Asians, according to this theory, have their own values, which include thrift, deference to authority, the sacrifice of individual to collective interests, and the belief that countries should not stick their noses into others' affairs. Hence, the hesitant response of Southeast Asian governments — and public opinion — to the Burmese disaster." see source

Tony Blair: Nutjob
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  5-15-2008
Some people, when they retire, stop wearing a tie, stop putting on a suit - unless it is of the jogging variety, stop waking up before dawn, stop worrying about deadlines, and just put their feet up. Other people go abso-freaking-lutely nuts when they retire. Guess which one Tony Blair is? Tony apparently is nostalgic for the time of the Crusades. He might have converted to Catholicism, but his rhetoric is straight up "White Man's Burden" from Victorian "Muscular Christianity." I mean, he begins with the implicit supposition that the west has always dominated the world and that the East is just recently rising above the level of savage barbarism to "challenge" the Christian West. Then it goes down hill from there! He actually sounds nostalgic for brutal imperialism. He also sounds frighteningly ignorant. I certainly hope this kind of madness doesn't prefigure Bush's up-coming retirement.

Broken Homes breaking the economic bank
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  4-20-2008    2
Perhaps we are not willing to look at the real cost of broken homes. Being a product of a broken home myself I can personally state the high price I had to pay as a result of being raised in a fatherless home. The emotional scars and damage caused by the harmful effects of a parent leaving were hard to overcome. I am unable to calculate the actual financial cost the broken home had on myself but I can say for a surety that it certainly had an ill effect on it. Now I am not saying to anyone to stay in a dangerous relationship but too many marriages are destroyed for no other reason then selfishness and unforgiveness. It is no better for the Christian home than it is for the non-Christian household it would appear. Perhaps we need to spend more time and energy on making ourselves better spouses than trying to fix our 'better half'?
