POPSBlackBerry Profits From iPhone Hype Hitwise says so many iPhone stories mentioned iPhone alternatives, such as the BlackBerry Bold, that rival handsets benefited (at least in numbers of Web searches).

POPSChristmas In The Trenches "The Christmas Truce story goes against most of what we have been taught about people. It gives us a glimpse of the world as we wish it could be and says, "This really happened once." It reminds us of those thoughts we keep hidden away, out of range of the TV and newspaper stories that tell us how trivial and mean human life is. It is like hearing that our deepest wishes really are true: the world really could be different."

POPSHappy birthday! I'm thankful he was born. He inspired many: "...the only psychologist from whom I have anything to learn." - Nietzsche (1887) "Dostoevsky gives me more than any scientist, more than Gauss." - Einstein "Dostoevsky preaches the morality of the pariah, the morality of the slave." - Georg Brandes (1889) "...an author whose Christian sympathy is ordinarily devoted to human misery, sin, vice, the depths of lust and crime, rather than to nobility of body and soul" and described Notes from Underground as "...an awe- and terror-inspiring example of this sympathy." - Thomas Mann Kenneth Rexroth once described Dostoevsky as a "man of many messages, a man in whom the flesh was always troubled and sick and whose head was full of dying ideologies--at last the sun in the sky, the hot smell of a woman, the grass on the earth, the human meat on the bone, the farce of death" Turgenev on Dostoevsky: "...the nastiest Christian I've ever met".

POPSA Christmas tech story..... What I would like to do is challenge each and every one of you DCoTers to take a look through your older computer equipment and see if you can put together a system that could help out someone in need during the holiday. It may just be a “pile of junk” to you but it can make all the difference in the world to someone in need. If you have ever done something like this or you plan to do something like this, I want to hear about it. Leave your Christmas Tech Miracle stories in the comments for all to read. "

POPSThe Angry Young Man The Learning Channel When I say learning, you say… that’s right, decorating and human oddities. No matter what you’re trying to learn, you would be hard pressed to put together a worse curriculum than the schedule from The Learning Channel (TLC). Here are some listings from today’s lineup: A Makeover Story; Clean Sweep; Trading Spaces; While You Were Out; Martha; and Wild Child: The Story of Feral Children. Why not put the Dukes of Hazzard on there so I can learn how to make moonshine and slide across the hood of a car? Other recent educational fare includes: The Half Ton Man; What Not to Wear; and a show about a bunch of dudes who run a tattoo parlour. What I really want though is a single show where a huge fat guy raised by dogs gets the world’s biggest tattoo, a new wardrobe and some simple tricks for making his dining room more inviting. TLC? How about WTF?
