Bin Laden to be Conjured Up for Halloween/Election
blueridge
by blueridge  10-31-2008    3
Poof--October Surprise! The officials sound like they WANT bin Laden to speak and be heard don't they? Hey ABC!.. why not identify just who these "multiple government sources" are...why the secrecy? Could they be neocons within the Office of Special Plans that report to Dick Cheney and bypass the CIA (which closed their bin Laden unit), that wrote the blueprint for a "new middle east", including Iraq, Iran, Syria (for Israel) in Sept. 2000? I have been waiting for this, bin Laden is always conjured up to spook Americans (in perfect Pavlovian condition-response training) to switch the debate back to "terrorism", fear, and "national security", while the statistical real threat of terrorism is MICROSCOPIC. The neocon agenda must be continued. I guarantee ABC will have an exclusive with Brian Ross, quoting the neocon-linked private company SITE, who always provide Osama a national platform, whom a $1 Trillion Pentagon can never find, conveniently. It's a lie!

Torture not illegal because we don't do it.
citizenbfk

USA Attorney General says today he doesn't know if waterboarding is legal or not; This is the nations top lawyer. You'd figure he' have more of an opinion than: "I don't know." The AG also says: "We don't torture." This all the more outrageous because video tapes of USA torture/waterboarding were destroyed so they couldn't be evidence. Plus there are all the images of Abu Garaib prison all over the web. !? It's almost beyond words to describe but fortunately the basics will do: The USA Attorney General is deceptive. He is also not honorable, not true to his word. He is now part of the White House plot to cover up the very exsistence or admission of waterboarding. He's smirky. Gads. Our nation's top lawyer is smirky. I wish I could think of other words or phrases to describe this 'disconnect,' this "lack of coherence," in one's presentation, this clearly displayed dislocation between reality and legal charade shell game. Any other expresseion to describe this?

CIA Official Had Implicit Approval To Destroy CIA Tapes
dl211
by dl211  1-16-2008
When Black - who played a key role in setting up the secret prisons and instituting the interrogation policy - left the CIA in December 2002, Rodriguez took his place. Colleagues recall that even in the deputy's slot, Rodriguez was aware of the videotaping of Zubaida, and that he later told several it was necessary so that experts, such as psychologists not present during interrogations, could view Zubaida's physical reactions to questions. By December 2002, the taping was no longer needed, according to three former intelligence officials. "Zubaida's health was better, and he was providing information that we could check out," one said. An internal probe of the interrogations by the CIA's inspector general began in early 2003 for reasons that have not been disclosed. In February of that year, then-CIA General Counsel Scott W. Muller told lawmakers that the agency planned to destroy the tapes after the completion of the investigation. That year, all waterboarding was halted; and a

9/11 Commission Says CIA Lied and Impeded Investigation
blueridge

Caught in a lie. "Whatever is hidden shall be revealed...". The truth has a way of surfacing. So the CIA it appears is guilty of perjury, yet Bush gave Tenent the American Freedom medal. Of course both Bush and Cheney also testified (but not under oath and not published) before the Commission, but there is no record of that (so no record of lies).

Panel threatens to subpoena CIA Oficers
pokkets
by pokkets  12-19-2007
The CIA have agreed to provide documents regarding the destruction of the interrogation tapes. They'll be subpoenaed if they don't. Seems a bit pointless. The Administration want a delay because they want to finish their investigation first. If there's any more evidence, they want to make sure they find it before anyone else.

Attorney General Mukasey On CIA Videos
merrie
by merrie  12-14-2007
(The Politico) Reps. Silvestre Reyes (D-Texas) and Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), the chairman and ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, have released the following statement after being informed that the Justice Department has ordered the CIA not to cooperate with the panel's investigation into the destruction of interrogation videos of captured al Qaeda terrorists: “Just two days ago, CIA Director Michael Hayden appeared before our Committee to address the CIA’s destruction of videotapes. In that hearing, he committed to providing materials relevant to our investigation. Earlier today, our staff was notified that the Department of Justice has advised CIA not cooperate with our investigation. “I will ask Attorney General Mukasey -- in public and on the record -- more about the Department’s knowledge of and role in the existence and destruction of these videotapes at the Committee’s next oversight hearing, which I intend to call early next year," said Leahy.

GHOSTS OF CIA TORTURE TAPES
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  12-12-2007
In light of all this CIA illegal destruction of evidence on torture, I am once again clipping the youtube torture video with an update. For seven long years we have all been subjected to live in the Bush twilight zone and now this world of self-contained fantasy and horror is tossing us yet another eerie twist with this headline "CIA destroyed tapes despite court orders". http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071212/ap_on_go_co/cia_videotapes_courts The 1959 Rod Serling, TV series appears similar to THE BUSH ZONE, with one exception. "The Twilight Zone" was suppose to be science fiction, but the show rarely offered scientific explanations. It often had a moral lesson that pertained to everyday life. The only lesson in the Bush Twilight Zone is LIE, CHEAT, MANIPULATE but if you get caught, concoct incompetence for it's better to look naively ineffectual than expose what you really are, an unprincipled, power-hungry totalitarian! Ya wanna bet, they'll get away with this one too!

C.I.A. Destroyed tapes despite court orders
pokkets
by pokkets  12-12-2007    2
It's no surprise that the CIA destroyed any 'evidence' of torture, but they were a bit late, the news was already out. Do they really think no-one else managed to get a copy? They may be able to discredit the detainees stories in the mainstream media, but people are starting to find the grape vine far more reliable.

CIA boss faces tape interrogation
dl211

The suspect, Abu Zubaydah, was said to be one of the men questioned in the deleted footage. A Palestinian, he was captured in Pakistan in 2002 and sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Mr Kiriakou said the day after water-boarding was used on Abu Zubaydah, the detainee told his interrogator that Allah had visited him in his cell during the night and told him to co-operate. "From that day on, he answered every question," the retired agent said.

CIA man defends 'water-boarding' torture.
Amergin
by Amergin  12-11-2007    5
Sounds just like every other torturer through history, I did not realise I was doing wrong at the time. "At the time, I felt water-boarding was something we needed to do," he told ABC News. "And as time has passed, and as September 11th has, you know, has moved farther and farther back into history, I think I've changed my mind." The interview is said by ABC News to be first public comment by any CIA officer involved in handling top al-Qaeda suspects. The administration of US President George W Bush has always maintained it does not allow the use of torture.

Aha! The old "I cannot recall" defense. I find this article to be hysterically funny and I apologize to those who would take offense at my sick sense of humor. Pete Hoekstra (chairman of house intelligence committee -- I'm laughing again -- at the time) is also using the "cannot recall" defense.
