The Republican Party Must Change, and the Nation Too
blueridge
by blueridge  11-14-2008    1
Republicans have put Party and Power over Principles they used to stand for, namely "individual liberty" and "limited government". The lone voice once mocked by the GOP elite RINOs (and the CFR primary Candidates) now gives a lesson on what's wrong with republicans and the nation's government. (Actually, it was Republicans, under Lincoln, that first expanded and centralized the power of the federal government and started the same unjust wars as engaged in now, invading and burning the Southern states and cities! Overthrowing the Constitution has been their forte'. Democrats used to be "Dixie-crats" until they changed too). Neither does he spare Obama: Since the new alignment of political power offers no real change, we will remain on the same track without even a pretense of slowing the growth of government. With the new administration we can expect things to go from bad to worse.

The Answer Terrifies Them
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  11-14-2008    2
Foreign terrorism against Americans would disappear along with the need for a "war on terror." Civil liberties that were suspended could be restored. A sense of balance and harmony could return to our lives. Ending interventionism would mean that the era of big government in foreign affairs could be brought to an end.

Bush Spy Revelations Anticipated When Obama Is Sworn In
brightlight4
by brightlight4  11-11-2008
One encouraging sign for civil liberties groups is that John Podesta, president of the Center for American Progress, is a key figure in Obama's transition team, which will staff and set priorities for the new administration. The center was a tough and influential critic of the Bush administration's warrantless spying. Among the unanswered questions: * Were there quid pro quo promises made to the phone companies and internet carriers who cooperated with the secret spying? For example, were co-conspirators promised lucrative government contracts? * Did the program appropriate the CALEA wiretapping infrastructure? Under CALEA, Congress forced telecoms to build surveillance capabilities into the phone and internet network, but promised it would only be used with court orders. * What did the first version of the surveillance program sweep into its net? In March 2004, a squadron of top officials at the Justice Department, including then-Attorney

Something Scary This Way Comes

On the weeks leading up to Halloween something evil has been unearthed. Hidden away for 7 years it finally came to light here on the week before the election. This is enough to make your skin crawl. Barry Goldwater's Granddaughter: Why McCain Has Lost Our Vote
Jorjor
by Jorjor  10-23-2008    1
Also from the source: My grandfather (Paka) would never suggest denying a woman's right to choose. My grandmother co-founded Planned Parenthood in Arizona in the 1930's, a cause he supported. I'm not sure about how he would feel about marriage based on same-sex orientation. I think he would feel that love and respect for ones privacy is what matters most, not the intolerance and poor judgment displayed by McCain over the years. Paka respected our civil liberties and passed on the message that that we should conduct our lives standing up for the basic freedoms we hold so dear. Nothing about McCain, except for maybe a uniform, compares to the same ideology of what Goldwater stood for as a politician. The McCain/Palin plan is to appear diverse and inclusive, using women and minorities to push an agenda that makes us all financially vulnerable, fearful, and less safe. Nothing about the Republican ticket offers the hope America needs to regain its standing in the world

Another Freedom Lost during Obama Campaign
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  10-15-2008    4
Richmond Virginia Election officials wish to tell voters what clothing they can wear. We have seen the attempt by this congress to take away our right to bear arms. We have heard talk from this congress to silence opposing views to their socialistic policies by enacting a fairness doctrine to police the airwaves. We have seen the government takeover of private business with this so called bail out bill, and now we see the assault on freedom of speech being enacted against our citizenry. In fact I may even go as far to say it would appear that the only candidate we are allowed to vote for is Obama from all the news coverage he seems to get. And with his own organization attempting to flood the voter registrations with bogus registrants, it surely does make one think what the "h" is going on in this country?

Bush signs bill to turn military satellites on U.S.
spirithiker
by spirithiker  10-8-2008    3
G W Bush, aka Big Brother, is inching closer to allowing Homeland Security greater access to military satellites, despite statutes that make it illegal to use the armed forces to "execute the laws" within U.S. borders. Bush continues to subvert civil protection laws in the government's obsessive quest to 'know' everything that goes on within our borders. This shows this administrations sociopathic distrust of its citizens and a continued lack of respect for its citizens privacy.
