Harmlessly repels enemies ??? I can already see how enemy parties 'harmlessly repelling each other' becomes our new definition of peace. Is this one of the 'End of democracy and freedom' signs?

"I'm pleasantly astounded by these kids today," said Arthrell, a teacher in the Cleveland City Schools. "They're really making a stand for a better world ... This is democracy's finest moment, when people take the initiative to change something on their own." There is an eerie similarity between 1970 and 2008. While I searched for yesterdays clip, I found articles about Viet Nam casualties, civilian deaths, Nixon's crimes. Substitute Iraq for Viet Nam and it all seems the same.

Dalai Lama Appeals For Calm In Tibet
merrie
by merrie  3-18-2008
The Dalai Lama may be able to control his own hatred. But he can't control that of his followers "Of course I am angry, when I see my people get hurt," a Tibetan monk in Kumbum in Qinghai, China, told a television network. Over the weekend monks at the Kumbum monestary held demonstrations in the streets. Since then, though, the Chinese military has surrounded the monastery, and the monks haven't dared repeat their protests. "People are not treated equally in this country," the monk said. Chinese see the protestors as the criminals. Recognizing the possibility that things may get out of control, the Dalai Lama reiterated a stance he took during the last mass protests in Tibet in the late 1980s: that he step down as head of the government in exile if his followers abandoned his non-violent philosophy.

Musharraf:: Military Courts May Conduct Civilian Trials

by merrie  11-11-2007
In theory, that could include Bhutto, who said she would defy Musharraf's ban on public gatherings and lead supporters on a march from the eastern city of Lahore to the capital Islamabad on Tuesday. "When the masses combine, the sound of their steps will suppress the sound of military boots," Bhutto, a former prime minister, told hundreds of protesters Saturday, almost immediately after she was freed from 24 hours of house arrest. Addressing supporters through a loudspeaker, she said Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants were gaining ground in the country's turbulent northwest. She also said Musharraf's military-led government was about to crumble
