POPSCIA Is Behind These Leakssawfgh n No doubt is left behind that these leaks are intended to convince US citizens that the illegal occupation is justified.Pakistan is mainly responsible for the failures of the invading armies in Afghanistan.US and UK are making grounds for their invasions of Pakistan and Iran.I am keen to learn about the reaction of Zardari and Gilani over this highly provocative anti Pakistan statement from Cameron of Britain.

POPSThe Afghanistan Papers - Shades of Pentagon Papers of Vietnam Era Lots of data leaked with some purpose in mind. Not like Pentagon Papers in that this is all raw data not the result of an analysis by NATO, the US or Great Britain. The most interesting side of this may well be finding out who leaked and why. What is not included may well tell that tale. Lots of reading to do and thanks to the Guradian - it is all online.

POPSShame USA: Tactics worthy of Goebbels/Zionists Goebbels and the Zionist favourite tactic is to blame the victim for their own deaths. Without ANY evidence, the US military's response was to blame the Taliban for the HUGE number of civilian fatalities in Afghanistan!!! Is the logic that if it worked in Gaza, why not for the US in Afghanistan? If any independent investigation shows evidence of this monstrous charge, I'll never ever clip anything about the US army or Goebbels! I Promise.

POPSIntentions vs. Actions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict throughout the “peace process” years — through the good ones and through the bad ones — Israel continued expanding both the geographical footprint of its settlements and the population living upon them. For most of this time, Israel has often appeared unwilling to enforce domestic Israeli law on the settler population, to say nothing of abiding by international law or agreements made. And while Israel has stated a desire to leave the Gaza Palestinians alone in their tiny, overcrowded, economically unviable enclave, the “disengagement” from Gaza has never entailed letting Palestinians control their borders or exercise meaningful sovereignty over the area. The proposal has basically been that if Palestinians cease violence against Israel, then the Gaza Strip will be treated like an Indian reservation.

POPSColumbia military killing civilians Soldiers are kidnapping civilians, posing them as insurgents and killing them to pad their 'kill rate' so they can get promotions, time off, and extra pay. The depth of human depravity knows no bounds. The unseen tragedy of random killings is that the victim might have one day aspired to be a great leader or been instrumental in solving some medical mystery that could have benefited all of mankind. As the result of the selfishness and greed of a handful of murderous and theiving people, the rest of the world loses so much more. "If the responsibility of the army is to protect us from harm, how could they have killed my son this way?" Blanca Monroy, 49, Oviedo's mother, asked in an interview in her cinderblock home here. "The official explanation is absurd, if he was here just a day earlier living a normal life," she said. "The irony of it all is that my son dreamed of being a soldier" for the government.

POPSPalestinian youth killed, settlers accused According to investigations conducted by PCHR, which includes eye-witness statements, during the afternoon of 27 September, Yahia Ateya Fahmi Bani Maneya, age 18, from Aqraba village southeast of Nablus city, went to graze his sheep on land east of his village. When the teenager had not returned home by 18:00, dozens of locals gathered and went in search of him. They searched the area between Aqraba village and the Israeli settlement of Jetit, which lies approximately 10 kilometers east of Aqraba village. At about midnight, locals found Yahia Maneya's dead body covered in blood in al-Fajen area, one kilometer west of Jetit settlement. ... According to eyewitnesses, his body had been hit by about 20 bullets to the neck, chest and legs.

POPSWhere is the Hope? Comment on this... Not a particularly palatable topic, but well written, and a sad indictment upon the good people that may still be living in the US for delusional hope, that all can be justified. The whole darn business seems to be one friggin' mess and pack of contradictions from topic to topic, scenario to scenario ... what kind of nightmarish society is being created in the name of freedom and so-called democracy? More like "demonocracy" ... it would seem!

POPSCzech resistance to Communism cast as heroes and as murderers The current Czech prime minister, Mirek Topolanek, a liberal, decided in March to honor the three survivors as heroes, no doubt expecting some controversy in a nation still grappling with its Communist past. But the government was not prepared for a searing debate that encapsulated all the ambivalence associated with the country’s recent history. A minority of Czechs lauded the award as a fitting tribute to freedom fighters who had dared to stand up to a repressive government, but nearly half of the population viewed the men as criminals, according to a poll conducted for Czech Television.

POPSIn defense of William Ayers But to call Ayers a "terrorist" and throw him in the Osama bin Laden pile is a reach for the moral high ground by the very people and political establishment that secretly carpet bombed Cambodia, murdering hundreds of thousands of civilians. ...Ayers is no martyr, and he's no role model. But he doesn't deserve to be the punching bag of the moral cretins who still celebrate lying wars of aggression and the pointless slaughter of untold thousands.

POPS3rd marine cleared of Haditha charges Officials close to the Haditha case said they think prosecutors dismissed the charges in order to pursue Wuterich aggressively at trial. The cases against three of the Marines accused of shooting civilians have fallen apart, and Wuterich remains the only one left for prosecutors to target for accountability. Wuterich led the Marine squad and allegedly told his troops, as they approached a group of civilian homes that day, to shoot first and ask questions later.

POPSThoughts on Nangarhar from an ex-Marine An interesting and nuanced perspective, combining an appreciation for the culture of the Marines (and its flaws), an awareness of the high strategic stakes involved in any civilian killings by U.S. troops, and a much-needed reminder that U.S. forces have generally respected the law much more rigorously than any previous occupying or counterinsurgency force in history.

POPSHow a journalist broke the Haditha story This episode shows that the military dismissed a journalist's questions about Haditha out of hand by calling him biased and a sympathizer to Sunni insurgents. I sometimes see this attitude here at Clipmarks--don't question our military, don't question our leaders, etc. But in fact, we do need to question the conduct of our leaders and our military all the time. Because if we don't, there will undoubtedly be more Hadithas. (in fact, more Hadithas are probably inevitable if we continue to occupy Iraq, as von Zielbauer points out later in the interview).

POPSMedia focus on Hamas Mouse, neglect occupation As many of you are aware, the news (and Clipmarks) have been deluged with stories about a children's show produced by Hamas that features a Mickey Mouse-type character who allegedly espouses hatred toward Jews. Tom Wallace points out that the media have been ignoring the reality of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

POPSUS corporations accused of hiring death squads in Colombia Via Max Sawicky Fruit giant Chiquita agreed in March to pay $25 million to settle with the U.S. Department of Justice after acknowledging that its Colombian subsidiary, Banadex, secretly funneled $1.7 million to the death squads operating in zones where it had banana plantations. In 2001, a Banadex ship was used to unload 3,000 rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition for the paramilitaries. At the time, the paramilitaries were consolidating control of the Uraba banana region through massacres and assassinations. Chiquita later sold Banadex but still buys Colombian bananas. Cincinnati-based Chiquita says it was a victim of paramilitary extortion. In a statement it said its payments to the militias "were always motivated by our good faith concern for the safety of our employees."
