It will attempt to nationalize one-fifth of the U.S. economy through legislative action. They will focus, as Lenin did, on the "commanding heights" of the economy, not the little guy. As Obama said, "the smallest" businesses will be exempt from fines for not "doing the right thing" in offering employer-based health care coverage. Health will not be nationalized in one fell swoop. Instead, a parallel system will be created, funded by surcharges on business payroll, which will be superior to many private plans.

Credit card companies, utilities, insurance companies, and car-loan and student-loan debtors await their turn. Peggy the Moocher shows there are still basically two starkly contrasting views of government in this country among the rank-and-file electorate. Unlike Joe the Plumber, Peggy sees government as her salvation and the president as her subsidizer-in-chief. She voted with the expectation that the Spreader of Wealth will reward her with payback. Joe just wants Washington to leave him alone to fend for himself.

POPSFla. social workers dig into own pockets for needy clients this is so sad but so true. i thought if i got my social work degree then i could stop doing this...the acceptance board must have been wondering if i'd lost my mind when i said i wanted to go into social work so i could learn how to help without using my own money among other reasons...

POPSNSW church-state deal 'hampering ethics education' This will change, it's older than me. Remember Religious Instruction as a waste of time. The volunteers were unable to control classes, the kids learnt nothing and many wanted to opt out when there weren't mobs of rewards. So much is put on teachers these days, such as ethics lessons. I taught ethics (non religious) from the first time I walked into a classroom and most teachers do the same.

The idea here, some have suggested, is to suggest an anti-war appeal: If Obama is elected war with Iran will start. This incredible twisted suggestion is typical of other new McCain ideas, like he is the one really opposed to Bush policies although he voted for them 90% of the time. The twisted idea, too, that McCain's support for tax breaks for the SuperRich and Corporations is really to help out 'Joe the Plumber,' because the wealth will 'trickle down.' According to this twisted reasoning, McCain is the anti-war in Iran, anti-Bush policy guy, and pro-voice for the Middle and lower classes. ?? Other Republicans also just, seriously, going nuts: that McCain campaign worker who carved a B into her cheek (backwards) and tried to blame it on a "Black pro-Obama mugger." ?? Latest...some Republican arrested for making death threats against the Sec. of State of Ohio (who's in charge of elections) -- because she shut down a Republican attempt at voter suppression. ??

POPSScandal of the Education Profit Machine My sense is that this is not peculiar to the US. The imperative to fill courses can lead to a wicked student guidance service, Some say that those who manage to graduate have worthless qualifications since the imperative to show results lowers the educational achievement threshold; on the latter I am not qualified to comment.
