POPS"Bees Can Count" continues: Also at the Australian National University, Marie Dacke and Mandyam V. Srinivasan trained European honeybees to pass a particular number of colored stripes in a tunnel to get a food reward, which was placed by a stripe. When they removed the food, the bees still returned to the same stripe. Next, they mixed things up on the bees: they varied the spacing of the stripes, and even replaced stripes with unfamiliar markers. The insects consistently passed the same number of markers to approach the former reward site, demonstrating that they could count, up to four. The studies burnish the impressive list of honeybees' known cognitive abilities, all achieved with a brain the size of a sand grain. The studies were detailed in the journals PLoS One and Animal Cognition.

Friendfeed can gather updates from dozens of social Web sites, making it simple to arrange all my Twitter posts, Gmail Chat status updates and other online tidbits in one profile. Profilactic: People looking to funnel the most social Web content onto one site may like Profilactic. The site can tap into almost 200 social media sites, which run the gamut from social review site Yelp to ones I had never heard of, such as TwitPic, which lets you share images on Twitter. Users can also add feeds from other sites. Swurl: Though it can't gather information from as many sites as FriendFeed or Profilactic, Swurl's looks set it apart. The site was my favorite in part because of its very clever "Timeline" feature, which let me see all my online activities on one page, organized into a calendar-like grid. I could then click each square of the grid to see details, like the full text of a review of a bar I wrote on Yelp, or larger versions of photos I had uploaded to Flickr

It is human nature to take what they can get away with, and when someone, anyone, in charge, says they don't need oversight, that's the time to pull in the reigns, sharply.

Pakistan finally reclaims it sovereignty and orders its troops to fire back if US forces or drones violate their border again and attack on their soil (usually killing more civilians than combatants). This is the only way to change Bush policy and now forces Bush (and even Obama who says he would do same) to reconsider the consequences of such actions. Multi-million dollar attacks using Predator drones is cowardly warfare and a clever way to hit and run while never proving who exactly was being targetted and committing gross negligence in regard to innocent civilians. This is also contrary to the principles of Just War which requires solid ID, direct confrontation where opportunity to surrender is offered, and separating civilians from combatants during any attack, instead of this "just kill them all" policy called "scorched earth". There also is no way to identify (after missiles or bombs strike) who the persons really are, or justification to attack.

POPSThe Teen Brain Human and animal studies, Jensen and Urion note, have shown that the brain grows and changes continually in young people—and that it is only about 80 percent developed in adolescents. The largest part, the cortex, is divided into lobes that mature from back to front. The last section to connect is the frontal lobe, responsible for cognitive processes such as reasoning, planning, and judgment. Normally this mental merger is not completed until somewhere between ages 25 and 30—much later than these two neurologists were taught in medical school. There are also gender differences in brain development. As Urion and Jensen explain, the part of our brain that processes information expands during childhood and then begins to thin, peaking in girls at roughly 12 to 14 years old and in boys about two years later. This suggests that girls and boys may be ready to absorb challenging material at different stages, and that schools may be missing opportunities to reach them.
