Statistical Ghost "Proves" Global Warming = A Political Hoax
merrie
by merrie  9-23-2008    2
Ok, two days ago I published a report on the data called The All Important Blade of the Stick Uses Less Than 5% of the Data. This report detailed what I consider powerful evidence that Mann and his group may have intentionally manipulated data in creating this paper. I don’t say this lightly. It is very clear that the proxies, which no one is sure represent temperature, were in fact extended using questionable statistics and then correlated to demonstrate that they match measured temperature. The addition of an up slope to 90% of the data was pasted on according to less than 5% of the data. I am very suspicious that this 5% was chosen specifically because of its up slope in recent times. Think about that only 55 series determined the outcome of the majority of the 1209 series data!! http://noconsensus.wordpress.com/2008/09/18/the-all-important-blade-of-the-stick-uses-less-than-5-of-the-data/ IceCap.us/ http://icecap.us/

She opposes same-sex marriage, but complied with an Alaskan state Supreme Court order and signed an implementation of same-sex benefits into law, stating that legal options to avoid doing so had run out. She supported a non-binding referendum for a constitutional amendment to deny benefits to homosexual couples. Alaska was one of the first U.S. states to pass a constitutional ban on gay marriage, in 1998, along with Hawaii. Palin has stated that she supported the 1998 constitutional amendment.

Why Greenland isn't so green
pokkets
by pokkets  8-29-2008
Greenhouse gas levels before the Industrial Revolution were 280 parts per million (ppm), and now stand at around 385 ppm - just shy of the 400 ppm that prevailed in Greenland's pre-ice era. The more they study climate models the more uncertainty they have, because the weather keeps showing them it involves a lot more than they imagined. But almost any weatherman could tell you that. They usually have trouble predicting tomorrows weather. They also know, that in 20 years they'll be forgotten, and people will be asking the incumbent weathermen. Who will still be predicting a 60% chance of showers. In case you were interested In 982 Erik the Red was exiled from Iceland for murder., he named the land Grænland ("Greenland").] Greenland was also called Gruntland ("Ground-land") and Engronelant (or Engroneland) on early maps. They also say (in Wikki) that while only small parts of the island are green, they are, they are Very green. Perhaps it's the contrast.

Spencer Before The Senate
merrie
by merrie  7-27-2008    3
A few days ago, Dr. Roy Spencer gave testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee chaired by Sen. Barbara Boxer. To say his testimony wasn't at all what she wanted to hear, would be an understatement. Spencer doesn't descend to the level of many of his opponents and call Forster a 'denier' or a 'heretic'. Unlike them, apparently, he has some confidence in the soundness of the science backing his position. Obviously when that's the case, there's no real reason to resort to that sort of nonsense, is there? Or, shorter version, "you politicians need to sit back and relax until the science is is complete on this, but there are indications enough to doubt the initial take on all of this and policy shouldn't be implemented that may be both costly and unnecessary". Naturally Congress, which is up to its armpits in costly and unnecessary legislation is unlikely heed that warning unless enough of a ruckus is raised to make them.

More bad news for alarmists
willhelm
by willhelm  7-24-2008    9
For example, the recent summary by Fred Singer and 22 expert contributors to “Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate” makes some extraordinary statements about computer models. (In addition to the many excellent contributors, this summary also contains 167 references to the scientific literature). This is important since computer models are being improperly, yet extensively, used by state legislatures as the basis of policies for greenhouse gas mitigation, rather than using actual climate data taken from the real world. These statements include: Computer models do not consider variations of irradiance and magnetic fields of the sun Computer models do not accurately model the role of clouds Computer models do not simulate a possible negative feedback from water vapor Computer models do not explain many features of the Earth’s observed climate. Computer models cannot produce reliable predictions of regional climate change.

There is no climate crisis: Hoax revealed
willhelm
by willhelm  7-17-2008    39
The IPCC’s 2007 climate summary overstated CO2’s impact on temperature by 500-2000%; CO2 enrichment will add little more than 1 °F (0.6 °C) to global mean surface temperature by 2100; Not one of the three key variables whose product is climate sensitivity can be measured directly; The IPCC’s values for these key variables are taken from only four published papers, not 2,500; The IPCC’s values for each of the three variables, and hence for climate sensitivity, are overstated; “Global warming” halted ten years ago, and surface temperature has been falling for seven years; Not one of the computer models relied upon by the IPCC predicted so long and rapid a cooling; The IPCC inserted a table into the scientists’ draft, overstating the effect of ice-melt by 1000%; Mars, Jupiter, Neptune’s largest moon, and Pluto warmed at the same time as Earth warmed; In the past 70 years the Sun was more active than at almost any other time in the past 11,400 years.

Artificial photosynthesis promises an efficient way of producing Hydrogen, which could potentially provide a clean fuel for vehicles: all that would be needed is water. Although a long way off, this breakthrough satisfies a vital requirement of any future models.

The researchers used two different climate models that predict changes in temperature and rainfall through 2100 to make their projections -- one that assumes higher and another that assumes lower greenhouse gas emissions. Ocean review finds warming on the rise.
pokkets
by pokkets  6-19-2008    1
It isn't just that ice is melting that is making the sea level rise, it is also the fact that water expands as it heats. With the volume of water in the ocean - 2/3 of the Earth's surface is covered with water, even a small temperature increase can have a dramatic effect. The way the expansion, and melting are factored into the research reports can make them a lot clearer, and more accurate. While there are the best of intentions, regarding some kind of remedy, I don't remember anyone being able to literally turn back the tide, which seems like the bottom line. King Canute had a go, but he was trying to prove that point to some knucklehead courtiers, who'd flattered him. He knew they were full of hot air, but figured it was worth getting wet to see the look on their faces. Don't you hate it when a King calls your bluff. Still you can look at the bright side. The world is getting more like Venice every day. All you have to do is buy shares in a Gondola Company.

Energy Consumption Increased Al Gore’s "Green" Home In Past Year
merrie
by merrie  6-18-2008
After the Tennessee Center for Policy Research exposed Gore’s massive home energy use, the former Vice President scurried to make his home more energy-efficient. Despite adding solar panels, installing a geothermal system, replacing existing light bulbs with more efficient models, and overhauling the home’s windows and ductwork, Gore now consumes more electricity than before the “green” overhaul. “Actions speak louder than words, and Gore’s actions prove that he views climate change not as a serious problem, but as a money-making opportunity,” Johnson said. “Gore is exploiting the public’s concern about the environment to line his pockets and enhance his profile.” In the wake of becoming the most well-known global warming alarmist, Gore won an Oscar, a Grammy and the Nobel Peace Prize. In addition, Gore saw his personal wealth increase by an estimated $100 million thanks largely to speaking fees and investments related to global warming hysteria.

Is The "Scientific Consensus" On Global Warming A Myth?
merrie
by merrie  6-9-2008    3
Their work is cited and acclaimed throughout the scientific community. No wonder Gore and his allies want to pretend they don't exist. This is the one book that PROVES the science is NOT settled. The scientists profiled are too eminent and their research too devastating to allow simplistic views of global warming--like Al Gore's--to survive. Al Gore says any scientist who disagrees with him on Global Warming is a kook, or a crook. Guess he never met these guys Dr. Edward Wegman demolishes the famous "hockey stick" graph that launched the global warming panic Prof. Hendrik Tennekes states "there exists no sound theoretical framework for climate predictability studies" used for global warming forecasts. Dr. Antonino Zichichi who discovered nuclear antimatter--calls global warming models "incoherent and invalid." Dr. Syun-Ichi Akasofu twice named one of the "1,000 Most Cited Scientists," says much "Arctic warming during the last half of the last century is due to natu

of tar-and-feathering anyone who dares question climate alarmism -- a key tactic in their effort to dupe the nation into consuming the green Kool-Aid. One event is an indisputable historical fact of hideous dimensions; the prophesied specter of catastrophic global warming, however, is just a politically driven fear scenario based on unreliable computer models and the wishful bending of the laws of climate physics. There is no comparison. Can anyone reasonably equate, say, the 31,000 U.S. scientists, engineers and physicians who recently signed a petition against global warming alarmism -- including Princeton theoretical physicist Freeman Dyson and Massachusetts Institute of Technology climatologist Richard Lindzen -- with the likes of neo-Nazis and Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who constantly calls for Israel's destruction? But Krauthammer's adoption of the greens' most effective word weaponry nonetheless plays into their thought-shaping rhetoric.

Governor Of Alaska Challenges Polar Bear Listing
merrie
by merrie  5-28-2008
"Inappropriate implementation of this listing decision could result in widespread social and economic impacts, including increased power costs and further increases in fuel prices, without providing any more protection for the species," he said. Deborah Williams, a former Interior Department special assistant for Alaska and an advocate in the state for global warming response, said Palin's lawsuit was not a prudent use of state money. "Clearly Secretary Kempthorne put a tremendous amount of thought into the listing decision and concluded correctly that listing was required," she said.
