POPSSenate Votes To Roll Back Media Ownership Rule "Today the Senate stood up to Washington special interests by voting to reverse the FCC's disappointing media consolidation rules that I have fought against," he said. "Our nation's media market must reflect the diverse voices of our population, and it is essential that the FCC promotes the public interest and diversity in ownership." The FCC decision allows one company to own a newspaper and a broadcast station in the nation's 20 largest metropolitan areas. The TV station may not be among the top four in the market, and post-transaction, at least eight independent media voices must remain. The rule replaced an outright ban on cross-ownership. The FCC's media ownership decision has been met with opposition on both sides. The newspaper industry has complained that the FCC did not go far enough, while activists who want to keep big media companies from getting bigger said the agency went too far.

POPSThe Way the Race Card Plays... For all the (disturbing) talk about how being black is bad for the Democratic party, nobody seems to be noticing that it also has its good sides. I mean, people worry about Obama's abilty to capture the working class white vote, but why doesn't anyone worry about Hillary's (rapidly diminishing) ability to capture the black vote? After all, by campaigning on the idea that a black man can't represent America, isn't she destroying her ability to get the black vote? (Not to mention white votes, like mine, that are really frightened by that kind of rhetoric?) What I love about an Obama McCain election is that it scrambles the map. Some blue states would definitely prefer McCain, while some red states are certainly leaning towards Obama. At last, we have a chance to break down America's polarization.

POPSHas sexism doomed Clinton? People are right to decry boorish anti-Clinton comments, offensive jokes, and the bilge, bile, and billings-gate of the talk-radio blowhards, as well as occasional over-the-top utterances from cable commentators. But let's not mistake the Bruegelian sideshow for the political mainstream. Even allowing for all that stupidity, the notion that sexism is primarily to blame for Clinton's woes doesn't pass logical muster.

POPSThe Burden of Transcending Raceby
zizzy Yesterday 12:52 AM For blacks, the worst thing it seems (at least in the minds of whites) is to be seen as black, which is no doubt why so many whites think it's a compliment to say things to black folks like, "I don't even think of you as black," not realizing that the subtext of such a comment is that it's a damned good thing they don't, for if they did, the person so thought of would be up the proverbial creek for sure. the success of Barack Obama has proven, perhaps more so than any other single thing could, just how powerful race remains in America. His success, far from disproving white power and privilege, confirms it with a vengeance.

POPSHillary fights the Obamabots Obama supporters may win the primary and loose the election. They seem to forget that the other HALF of the Dem party is supporting Hillary. If we are dissed we will vote for noone, or McWar. At this point it is clear that Obama can not win without us and his bots are insulting both the Clintons and the voters at every opportunity.

POPSPentagon Propagandist General Calls for US to Sponsor Terrorism Against Iran "The tactic that McInerney advocates of using Iranian opposition terrorist groups to carry out acts of terrorism inside Iran is not new, nor far-fetched. A little digging turned up numerous articles alleging that the pentagon had already been using the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) and other groups in cross-border operations into Iran, at least until shortly after Sec Gates took over (Some news reports of attacks in Iran here, here, here, here, here. Iranian news video here)." Of course is not wrong if "we" do it, now is it?

POPSWAR ON WAR music video contest
This video was my entry into a contest by Sam Harris. He wrote a powerful song with a strong message against war. The USA government is always declaring war on something i.e. War on drugs, war on terrorism, war on poverty... How about a war on war? Says, Sam Harris... You can view link... http://www.youtube.com/groups_videos?name=waronwar Contest here: http://www.samharris.com/waronwar/ thinkingblue.blogspot.com --- A SPECIAL COMMENT FROM THETHINKINGBLUE CHANNEL Some of the nasty comments on thethinkingblue channel illustrate how sad we Americans are as a people. There is so much ignorant hatred bristling, that a complete coming together as one commonality is almost impossible. Barack Obama is our only hope. He can soothe the pain of hatred and rage by not embracing it like so many other political bodies have (yes even Hillary Clinton stooped so low) and he will demonstrate to us, through example that we really can come together as one. YES WE CAN! thinkingblue.blogspot

POPSThe New Face of Racism: Hilary Clinton Hillary Clinton may well be the youngest living Dixiecrat. Basically, her campaign strategy has come down to this: 1. There are lots of Americans who would vote against a person based on the color of his skin. (I bet you can't guess which color they "aren't quite ready for"!) 2. These people are so important to the Democratic Party that we should on no account offend their delicate sensibilities by fielding an, ehm, colored candidate. 3. By virtue of her being white, she has the key character trait that appeals to the DNC base, which is the ability to pander to the much vaunted "Racist Redneck" demographic. Are her values in line with the Democratic Party? They certainly don't represent me! In fact, I would prefer it if racists didn't vote for the candidate I support. After all, nobody is looking for the David Duke endorsement!

POPSNavy Denies Chelsea Clinton To Vieques, Puerto Rico Daddy didn't do the island any favors the last time around (nor did the Navy, the arrogant bastards). If Hillary wants the delegates, she should stop sending surrogates and come down herself. Then again Puerto Rico is a Imperial cold sore on both parties.

POPSAbsolutly Ridiculous
Are there some people out there who won't vote for Obama because he's black...sure there are. Just like there are some people out there who won't vote for Clinton because she's a woman. If you want to pull the racism card, you have to counter with the sexism card as well. Both democratic candidates are at a disadvantage because of stereotypes and some form of bigotry. The argument about this being the first time white Americans have had the opportunity to vote for a black person is ridiculous as well. It's also the first opportunity for men of any color to vote for a woman. If I'm a white man and vote for Obama, does that mean I'm not racist but I'm sexist? C'mon, give me a break. People for the most part are voting for who they think will make the best candidate. Are some white people not voting for Obama because he's black...sure. Are some men not voting for Clinton because she's a woman...sure. But give people credit - there's a lot more people who are looking at the

POPSBlushing Blair's Bitch Belatedly Bits Bush Butt! Yes look, he does look like a real cowboy. Here a 'real cowboy' is a lower form of life than a second hand car sales person. Cowboys over here are totally disreputable door-to-door shyster (A shyster is someone who acts in a disreputable, unethical or unscrupulous way or a con artist. While now applied in a non-ethnic-specific sense, it originated as a reference to disreputable Jxxish businessmen and criminals.) Unusual given his pro-Nazi past. Bet he's practising riding off into the sunset, pursued by a real posse for his war crimes. Mao and Stalin escaped. Will Bush? I hear he never really learnt how to ride a horse. Some Texan!

POPSLipstick on a Pig No matter how you skew it, all three candidates carry baggage with them that affects people's opinions. Never before have we had such clear cut issues facing the electrorate than we do today. Whether it's racism, sexism, or ageism, voters either confront or hide from the facts. What other conclusions can be drawn in WV except that the majority of voters in this 95% white state harbor racism. Whether it is blatent or hidden, it exists. The issues are too close between the Democratic contenders for one not to ask this question. In some states it's been to Obama's favor. It's the scope of the win and the demographic of the state that makes this a true indicator of people's motivations.

POPSGoing After OPEC The real energy problem, in other words, isn't Big Oil; it's Big Government. As with so many other things, President Reagan got it right when, not even a week after taking office in 1981, he signed Executive Order 12287 decontrolling the price of oil and gas. He then ordered his secretary of energy to focus on encouraging U.S. companies to find and produce more. It worked like a charm, bringing oil prices down sharply and OPEC to its knees. By 1986, after a 74% drop in the price of oil, some even doubted OPEC could survive. Such would-be monopolies look invincible when demand rises and prices follow. But when supply increases, prices fall and members start cheating, they look pathetic. This pretty much describes the history of OPEC. Reagan's strategy of energy decontrol would work again today . But this time it's supplies, not prices, that need to be untethered.
