"I don’t like American politics and what’s happening," Greenspan said... Historically, there has been "a large buffer between the level of our federal debt and our capacity to borrow... That’s narrowing. And I’m finding it very difficult to look into the future and not worry about that." Democrats have proposed adding a value-added (VAT) tax to further extract money from the economy, presumably to emulate the petrified economies of Europe. Greenspan suggested that even a VAT tax wouldn't suffice. Put simply, the problem is that the government isn't controlling its spending. The reason I tackled healthcare wasn’t because this was my personal hobbyhorse. The reason I tackled it was during the course of the campaign, I traveled all across this country and I kept on hearing heart-breaking stories about families who were bankrupt because they got sick..... It doesn’t matter if this is his sincere belief, spoken straight from the heart. His health-care plan was still an awful idea that united the country in opposition against the increasingly thuggish and arrogant methods he used to advance it. Those methods are integral to the collectivist enterprise.
