POPSEconomic Justice, Income Redistribution, Reparations! it is good for everyone. — A bombshell was released this weekend when a copy of an interview by Obama on WBEZ-FM, Chicago Public Radio, from 2001 was found (bold italics added): "The Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society ... and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused, I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that. ... I think that you can craft legal theoretical justifications for it legally, any three of us here could come up with a rational for bringing about economic change through the courts."

POPSStump Staple: Bashing Free Trade National Journal's Peter Cohn details just how dirty the words "free trade" have become on the campaign trail. Story notes that in one ad from the Democratic party, Elizabeth Dole, a Republican U.S. senator representing North Carolina, is referred to as "the senator from China."

POPSWhen McCain Loses Repubs go way of the Whigs: "The party was ultimately destroyed by the question of whether to allow the expansion of slavery to the territories. With deep fissures in the party on this question, the anti-slavery faction successfully prevented the nomination of its own incumbent President Fillmore in the U.S. presidential election of 1852; instead, the party nominated General Winfield Scott, who was soundly defeated. Its leaders quit politics (as Lincoln did temporarily) or changed parties. The voter base defected to the Republican Party, various coalition parties in some states, and to the Democratic Party. By the U.S. presidential election of 1856, the party had lost its ability to maintain a national coalition of effective state parties and endorsed Millard Fillmore, now of the American Party, at its last national convention."

POPSPraying For Palin "Perhaps there are some here who also sense that what's being lost is more than just a single election. The fact that the GOP ticket is trailing behind despite the addition of Palin clearly proves that while conservative Christians may be a formidable force in American politics, they can't elect a president by themselves. The right-wing evangelicals won in previous years because they joined a Republican coalition that also included hawkish neocons, working-class "Reagan Democrats," libertarians, and old-fashioned fiscal conservatives. And some of those groups have clearly had enough. They are departing the flock in disgust with the Republican Party, which could leave the GOP ever more dependent on the Christian right. "

POPSUkraine Leader Dissolves Parliament. Parliament?
This news is so juicy -- and so deep -- that I could feast on it for weeks. But First: For My Dear Fellow Americans: Notice > Dissolve the government (temporarily), with just the mere snap of a finger. #2 > News elections - new government in two months. #3 > A small party, like say: The Greens, or Libertarians, etc. - could cause this to happen by shifting sides (and gain significant power in the process. My dear Fellow Americans, that is actual democracy. I guess I should point out, too, that's it's the second Major Move by Russia (Oh, yea...Russian is behind this)...it's the 2nd Move, after kicking back the attack from Georgia...that totally dismantles about 15 years of U.S. efforts to surround Russia, steal the oil from the Caspian Sea, etc. (All under the false flag of "spreading freedom and democracy, BTW) Repulsing the Geogian invasion was like (in chess) moving a Bishop. This Ukraine move is like moving The Queen. Attacking the missile base in Poland will

POPSTHE SHIT PEDDLERS All the myths that are floated as truth, is nauseating beyond the puke bucket. The right-winged, learned ones who perhaps didn't sleep through all of their college courses, whip out the dialogue of mendacity every time they are threatened to be overthrown by THE OTHER PARTY. Oh they keep their fairytale myths alive all through their years of control but election time is when they really roll up their sleeves and get the SHIT shovels lined up to cover us all in blankets of Repulsive Untruths against our common senses and THE OTHER PARTY. I picked up a newspaper belonging to a red bible belt area where many of the followers or better word SHEEP live and who desperately want to believe the crap their Right-winged commanders spew forth, even if it doesn't quite make sense to them. MORE BELOW or follow this link... http://www.thethinkingblue.com/shitpeddlers.html

POPSUkranian PM Tymoshenko on political crisis I wanted, firstly, to separate clearly powers between the Government and President as the Constitution envisages and not to do so that there are three governments, six Premiers in the country and all govern and nobody exercises responsibility.

POPSWind, Solar and Clean Coal Blow Into Denver for communications at the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity, which uses scrubbers and other technologies to limit coal’s environmental effect. Lucas said the coal industry decided to spend $1.7 million on a multipronged advertising campaign in Denver and the Twin Cities, where the Republican convention will be held next week. Like the wind industry, clean coal had virtually no presence in 2004, Lucas said. The solar industry has also radically increased its coverage of the convention. In Minneapolis-St. Paul, the SEIA contributed to the host committee through its membership in the Republican Governors Association. (Solar Energy Industries Association) It is also hosting a party in Denver and jointly hosting a party with the wind association in Minneapolis.

POPSPakiston ruling coalition splits after six months Zardari is the Peoples Party's candidate to replace Musharraf as president. Now that he appears to be the front-runner, the Peoples Party is in no hurry to take away the president's power to dissolve Parliament – another sticking point with Sharif. "Zardari becoming the president would be the most unfortunate event in Pakistan's history," said engineer Raheel Rehman, 27. "A thug is going to be the president of this country," said palm reader Tawakkul Hussain, 35. "We have no options ahead of us. Once again, they are taking turns in power. This is Zardari's turn. After that, it will be Nawaz's turn. He is equally irresponsible and corrupt." The provincial and national assemblies will vote for the president Sept. 6.

POPSFear and Loathing in the Republican Party A new low, even for Republicans. Not content with associating Obama with Hitler, now he's being portrayed as the Antichrist! And sadly, enough brain dead fundamentalists are around to make this an issue.

POPSNew Blog Takes Hard Look at Local Government Reform Josh Gillespie of Hoosier Access, a well known Republican blogger, and Jen Wagner, foremr spokesperson for the Indiana Democratic Party and author of the Hoosier Political Report blog and former blogmistress at Taking Down Words, have teamed up to advocate for reforms contained in the bipartisan Kernan-Shepherd Report which advocates for fundamental government reform. This will be an interesting resource for independent minded political junkies in Indiana.

POPSPakistani President Musharraf Resigns Amid Impeachment Threats Many Pakistanis blame the rising militant violence in their country on Musharraf's alliance with the U.S. His reputation suffered blows in 2007 when he ousted dozens of judges and imposed emergency rule. His rivals won February parliamentary elections and have since sought his ouster, announcing impeachment plans earlier this month. Musharraf, who has been largely sidelined since his rivals came to power, had resisted the mounting calls to quit, even after the coalition finalized impeachment charges against him and threatened to send a motion to Parliament later this week. Who will ultimately succeed Musharraf is an open question. There has been speculation that both Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari, the leaders of the two main parties are interested in the role.

POPSMusharraf, Loyalists Decide To Fight It Out Later, the governors of Punjab and Sindh met the president to discuss the political situation. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad is said to have renewed support for President Musharraf on behalf of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. The president had decided in the morning not to visit China as a state guest for the Olympics opening ceremonies but he was persuaded by his allies to review the decision. It was decided that he would leave for Beijing on Thursday morning, accompanied by Punjab Governor Salman Taseer. The sources said that the PML-Q leaders had asked the president to defend himself in person in parliament. They also convinced him not to call off his visit to China which was a tested strategic friend of Pakistan. Chaudhry Pervaiz said: “Gen (retd) Musharraf is an elected president who has the credit of holding free and fair elections. He does not deserve this treatment and we will stand by him in case of any effort to oust him.”

POPSAfghanistan is “becoming a sort of surreal hunting estate" War Gone Bad There is no mystery as to why things have gone increasingly badly for the United States and its allies. As the United States steps up its air war, civilian casualties have climbed steadily over the past two years. Nearly 700 were killed in the first three months of 2008, a major increase over last year. In a recent incident, 47 members of a wedding party were killed in Helmand Province. In a society where clan, tribe, and blood feuds are a part of daily life, that single act sowed a generation of enmity. Anatol Lieven, a professor of war at King’s College London, says that a major impetus behind the growing resistance is anger over the death of family members and neighbors. Lieven says it is as if Afghanistan is “becoming a sort of surreal hunting estate, in which the U.S. and NATO breed the very terrorists they then track down.”

POPSNetanyahu Rushes for Power in Israel, Before Bush's Term is Up "Hurry the elections", i.e. he wants into power NOW. The Likud Party is linked directly to the neoconservatives in America. Netanyahu (who is close friends with Larry Silverstein, the WTC leaseholder) wants power before the change of President in the U.S. in order to start war with Iran, to continue the neocon agenda beyond the Bush administration's term. MARK THIS: If he wins, they will attack Iran immediately, and he is pushing hard to get in before Jan. '09, to control US war policy. Pat Buchanan documented the link earlier: In 1996, neoconservatives currently serving in the Bush administration wrote a policy paper for Israeli right-wing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu . In the policy paper Douglas Feith (currently Undersecretary of Defense), David Wurmser (VP Cheney’s staff) and Richard Perle (Defense Review Board) called for "removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq

POPSChuck Hagel to Join Obama on Trip to Europe & Middle East Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) will join Obama on his trip. Some have advocated for an Obama Hagel ticket in November, arguing that such an historic ticket would be the ultimate sign that Obama intends to be the coalition building President he has promised. One thing is certain: By placing a Republican on the ticket, Obama could shave off many Republican votes, especially those already disgruntled with McCain, and and almost certainly defeat McCain in November in a rout.

POPSKarzai orders probe into deadly U.S. strike "The wedding party was supposed to be going from one village to another to take the bride to the house of the groom," Gul said. "You will have to ask the Americans whether these were terrorists. So far as I know they were men, women and children traveling to a wedding." Imagine how you'd feel if your wedding party was bombed! ANOTHER ATROCITY, DAMMIT!
