POPS12 Things to Do with Coca Cola
6. A can of Coke poured into the toilet will clean it. The acid in the drink gets to work right away. 7. Make an excellent barbecue sauce by mixing Coke and Ketchup , half and half. Coat chicken, meat, etc with this before cooking. It’s mouthwatering. 8. Flat Coke makes a good hair conditioner. Pour it over your hair, rinse and dry. 9. Put Coke into flat wide dishes in the garden and it will help to rid your plants of slugs. They are attracted by the sweet smell and once they fall in, they can’t get out. 10. Rusty bolts can be loosened by soaking a rag in Coca Cola, and wrapping it around the bolt. Leave for a few hours and it will be easier to move. 11. Clean your jewelery in a glass of Coke. Brush with a toothbrush and rinse well. (Not recommended for valuable items, or those with gem stones in them.) 12. Flat Coca Cola helps to settle upset stomachs. Don’t use fresh, fizzy Coke as this could irritate the condition. (Take the fizz out by adding a little sugar, if you need to.)

POPSOur tips are full of good food. Why the waste? I have a second compost bin because the neighbours are putting lots in. The bins take little room, have no smell and provide rich soil when seaweed and a little chook manure are added. You can also get compost bins for flats/units which give the soil for growing herbs etc on a balcony.

POPSAlternative to Google for digital preservation This sounds like an interesting concept. I think Google does some fine things, but one size does not always fit all, so it's nice that there are going to be another alternative for libraries to use. And I still think libraries are better equipped in general to develop this type of technology due to (hopefully) more sensitivity to what is useful, worth preserving, etc. Not everything in the world needs to be saved.

POPSMake Connections Authors create learning modules that teachers can build into courses or larger units. The module is conceptually larger than a Wikipedia entry, but this site and Wikipedia share the same spirit. A neat place.

POPSShopify Released. Create an online store within minutes. Shopify, a free e-commerce solution, has released a few hours ago. It's a very nice system that is definitely worth a look for anyone interested in starting an online store. Shopify takes 3% commission at the end of the month, which isn't really all that bad consider the cost it would be if you were to do it on your own server with a different system, payment gateways, SSL certs, merchants, etc.

POPSFootrot Flats Growing up in New Mexico, I happened to live next to (and be good friends with) a family from New Zealand. Of the many novel cultural items they introduced me to, nothing left as much an impression as reading their collections of this formerly famous, utterly unique comic strip about a Border Collie on a NZ farm. As a typical US kid, the foreign humor went completely over my head, I couldn't come close to understanding the native colloquialisms, I had never heard seen rugby, didn't grow up on a farm, etc... But for some reason, I was fascinated by the strips and couldn't get enough. For a comic strip it was rather dark...there was a very high prevalence of dirt, mud, manure, blood, bodily fluids, violence, implied violence, swearing, and more...what boy wouldn't be fascinated by such vulgarity? (I started to use the word "bloody" in conversations after reading those comics...until the family told me later it wasn't polite to do that. :) )
