POPSVote With Your Fork Vote against dependence on oil. Vote for lower health care costs. Vote against all disposable bags at the grocery store. Vote for healthy food choices at restaurants. Vote against unhealthy food choices. Vote for locally grown produce. Vote against the inhumane treatment of animals. Vote for organically-grown food. Vote against eating on the run. Vote for smaller portions. Vote against food waste. If you get frustrated at the current food environment, do something about it. Every dollar you spend, every food choice you make, and every meal you eat is an opportunity to vote for what you believe in. We can't change the way our food environment is structured overnight, but we can make a difference three times a day by voting with our forks.

POPSWhy The Left Can't Get It Right Now: "Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you." There is well established pathology which explains why Democrats fuel campaigns with feelings, and if there is one uniformly defining liberal characteristic of Democrat leaders, it would be hypocrisy. Liberals protest economic recession, all the while suppressing economic growth with evermore taxes and regulations. Most of them are card-carrying members of the ignoble ranks of "useful idiots," those Western apologists for Marxist-Leninist-Maoist collectivism. Of course, that card reads: "Member, Democrat National Committee." Liberals advocate diversity, unless your views don't comport with their own doctrines of moral relativism. They want to preserve nature and the natural order but advocate homosexual "marriage." They oppose the death penalty for the most heinous of criminal sociopaths, but they support the execution of unborn children in their mothers' wombs.

POPSWhat the Strida folding bike is and isn't I'm a little dubious of the part about the saddle is meant to be a little closer to the crank than with a normal bike, so you'll pedal with slightly bent knees. The advantage of this is that you can put both feet on the ground while in the saddle. Like I said, forget everything you know about bikes. Forget everything I know about bikes, okay. But pedaling or pumping with one's knees bent, regardless of what kind of vehicle or machine is being pedaled or pumped, is tiring and less efficient than having one's legs more fully extended. Hm.

POPSRap Collider The Large Hadron Rap was written by CERN science writer Kate McAlpine, a.k.a. "Alpine Kat," during her 40-minute Geneva-to-CERN commute. Among other things, this provides an incredibly useful and entertaining learning tool to discuss with students the physics behind the Large Hadron Collider and particle physics in general. All around creativity :)

POPSThe Future: The Hybrid with a Better Twist It's this kind of technology America needs to turn to on a massive productive scale and perhaps even partly subsidize the production to help keep the costs down for consumers. That would put people to work in good paying jobs, greatly reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and we can tell McCain & Bush that we don't need more offshore oil just offshore wind power so we can charge our cars up at night.

POPSSolar Energy in India and the Rise of Global Awareness Very interesting: "per capita emissions." Does this mean that in the future, you could be taxed differently than your neighbour depending on what car you drive, how far you commute, how much you recycle. It's already slightly that way, for instance you can get tax rebates for buying solar panels. If it was broken down into 'per capita emissions' though, this would be a very different story.
