POPSWelcome to Gilead, Governor Palin More: Women who find themselves drawn to Palin because they think she epitomizes the classic "woman who has it all" might want to take a closer look. Sarah Palin was picked for the ticket solely because of - not despite - the fact that she is female. By keeping her sequestered from the media, McCain has confirmed he does not have faith in an unscripted Palin's ability to represent the campaign to the world. By going along with it, Palin is telling us that she's perfectly fine with being controlled by her male superiors. And by portraying herself as the candidate of the empowered woman (while simultaneously promoting policy that is openly hostile to the interests of working and middle-class American women), she reveals the sad truth about how little progress we've actually made.

POPSSomewhere I have Never Traveled Another favorite Poet of mine E.E. Cummings. He is so unconventional! But I think he is one of the most modern love poets of our time. Look at the first line; is Cummings trying to be individualistic or is he so overwhelmed with his feelings of love that all the words and the comma run together? I think he using different forms of punctuation to let us get inside his mind at an attempt to feel what he is feeling. I love this poem :)

POPSBattlestar Galactica - intelligence rare on TV As Homo sapiens and Cylons perpetrate atrocities upon one another throughout the season, as consequences overwhelm the antagonists, humanity becomes a rare quality found in unlikely places. It is a poignant, telling reminder of possibility for a divided world.

POPSAn argument for better restraint in prescribing brain meds I have lived with depression since I was about 6 years old. I found myself wary about depression medications as they became popular, thinking, these things are altering you BRAIN, for God's sake, these are chemicals with effects on the tissues that have you apprehending who you ARE, interpreting sensory data, making decisions! It is a delicate precision instrument that should not be fucked with chemically when one can help its problems organically (say, with cognitive therapy, persistence in behaviors counter to those the illness compels, etc.) Brain drugs most definitely have their place, but they have seeped out of that place in the last 25 years or so. For the sake of general public safety and health, I hope that trend reverses itself. If more folks like this Doc speak up, there is hope for that.
