POPSAnother Reading Comprehension FAIL! The Right gets the APS Position Wrong! Another FAIL for the Right (and not a few clippers here). It helps to: 1. Read articles, documents and reports, fully and completely. 2. Reading comprehension is necessary. Otherwise you are wasting everybody's time. 3. The Three Rs are useless if you don't know how to apply them. 4. Denying is not the same as truth telling. Learn the difference!

POPSTo believe or not to believe? , contrasting disbelief and belief showed increased brain response in the left inferior frontal gyrus, the anterior insula and the dorsal anterior cingulate, all associated with responses to negative stimuli, pain perception and disgust. Finally, contrasting uncertainty with both belief and disbelief revealed elevated neural action in the anterior cingulate cortex, a region associated with conflict resolution. What do these results tell us? “Several psychological studies appear to support Spinoza’s conjecture that the mere comprehension of a statement entails the tacit acceptance of its being true, whereas disbelief requires a subsequent process of rejection”

POPSElectricity company without grounds. As tragic as this incident is, the greater tragedy comes when people do not read the article correctly. I publish this reply from a Daily Mail reader as example. Surely EON have a case to answer in causing this tragic death. I would be taking them to the highest court in the land for millions! A disgrace beyond comprehension. - Guy, Exeter, 04/7/2008 17:26 What part of suicide bid does the reader not understand

POPSArthur C. Clarke's Alien Monolith I do not claim the veracity of this story... I always repeat my Mantra: "I am a Collector of Curiosities..." Well, this struck me as few things could as definitively Curious. If anyone has seen hard evidence (like NASA site photos) then let me know right now I will say it is interesting..

POPSCheif Justice George assults individual rights This is a bait and switch exactly as Lincoln did. If you read the 13th Amendment very carefully you will realize that in no place does it mention anything about freeing the slaves. What it actually does is make us all equal. There is a huge difference between the two and this is always overlooked by educational institutions. It was a way of removing some individual rights and redefining us all under the Union whether everyone liked it or not. the details are too much to go into here in a clip. I only bring this up because the recent ruling in California allowing gay marriage was handled identically. The guy who wrote this article did an excellent job of breaking this fact down. Our laws apply to us as members of a group now and not as individuals as this shows. It is extremely dangerous for us as a nation to allow laws to be worded in this way and subtly shows the erosion of individual rights unless framed in a corporate environment.

POPSReforming K-12 Education I suggest those eight periods go as follows: 1. critical thinking / debate / recognizing deceit 2. math 3. science (methodology) / sciences 4. reading / comprehension 5. writing / speaking 6. Lunch 7. history 8. social studies / civics / life skills That's a K-12 curriculum, BTW. At the 12+ point either specialization (such as technical training in one area... electronics, mechanics, furniture carving, plumbing) or long term educational undertakings with broader underpinnings would be considered.

POPSLarry The Liar? It was not part of a pulpit service at Trinity. It was a conference. I am waiting for confirmation of the specific conference. And now we have Beckel and Fund claiming a tape exists and is coming out tomorrow. Would be nice but I don’t know. What I do know for a fact is that the folks who control the tape want to keep it on ice until after the Democratic convention in Denver. Whether they will achieve this is outside my knowledge.

POPSBullies Love Him "It remains unclear why Billy became a target at age 12; schoolyard anthropology can be so nuanced. Maybe because he was so tall, or wore glasses then, or has a learning disability that affects his reading comprehension. Or maybe some kids were just bored. Or angry." Whatever. The truth of the matter is that everyone has the right to enjoy their lives without being harassed either emotionally or physically. One can say that it's just kids being kids, but I've seen my share of those kids "grow up" into cyber bullies. I, for one, don't get any perverse pleasure from tormenting others and those who do? Well, my patience grows thin very easily with jerks. "In ninth grade, a couple of the same boys started a Facebook page called “Every One That Hates Billy Wolfe.” It featured a photograph of Billy’s face superimposed over a likeness of Peter Pan, and provided this description of its purpose:

POPSSesame Street Vs. Blues Clues: Principles I first became aware of this comparison reading The Tipping Point and thought to watch some of the progress in my 2 year old with some of these shows. I really haven't noticed anything yet other than her attention does, in fact, seem to held better by Blues Clues. However, my attention is held better by Sesame Street.

POPSGiagantic Canibalistic Mongolian Trout! The best news is that conservation efforts now center on catch-and-release fly fishing! The Chinese utter lack of comprehension when it comes to conservation means I still haven't been able to find any good fishing around Beijing, but Mongolia, that ain't so far away! So that settles it, I'm headed to Mongolia! But first I have to learn to tie a fly that looks like a dead marmot... (Any tips?)
