POPSCoast to Coast AM's Art Bell Interview w/ Graham Hancock
Discusses Lost Ancient Civilizations and the ImportanceofExploringOurOwnConsciousness. Hancock reiterated his premise that technologically advanced societies existed on Earth as far back as 12,000+ years ago -- the end of the last ice age. He said these civilizations were lost when a gigantic comet collided with the planet, causing the ice sheets to melt and raising sea levels by more than 400 feet. As evidence, Hancock pointed out that large stone monuments, some as big as Stone Henge, can be found 120 feet below the surface of the ocean off the coast of Japan. According to Hancock, the Mayan calendar may provide an ancient warning of yet another cataclysmic event -- this one set to occur within a 40-year window surrounding December 21, 2012. Hancock believes the consequences of this future catastrophe could be less damaging or averted entirely if we can learn to transform our consciousness. Hancock also strongly advocated a person's right to explore his own consciousness by usi

POPSNew Scifi Story About How Google Achieves Consciousness rom the story: When Ed examined the traffic, he realized that Google was doing more than mapping the digital universe. Google doesn't merely link or point to data. It moves data around. Data that are associated frequently by search requests are locally replicated—establishing physical proximity, in the real universe, that is manifested computationally as proximity in time. Google was more than a map. Google was becoming something else.

POPS"McCain being McCain" on rape joke "The spokesperson went on to dismiss other criticism of McCain’s humor, calling it “a good example of McCain being McCain.” Exactly my point. Can it really be that we would consider electing a president whose staff says a joke about women enjoying rape is "McCain being McCain"?

POPSThe Comedy Stylings of Shecky McCain At the time, McCain’s spokesperson (Torrie Clark, yes, that one) alleged that this was story was some manipulation by the Richard Kimball campaign. Yep, it’s always the other guy’s fault. I wonder if the reporter on that story, Norma Coile, was treated to the screaming phone call that McCain has treated so many local reporters to when they dare write a negative story about him. UPDATE - Because you demanded it, here is a PDF of the original article from 1986.

POPSUPDATE: Israel Moves Prisoners, Bodies Ahead Of Swap
Although polls show Israelis solidly endorse the exchange, many see Kantar as the embodiment of evil. In the dead of night on April 22, 1979, Kantar and three other gunmen made their way in a rubber dinghy from Lebanon to the sleepy Israeli coastal town of Nahariya, five miles south of the border. There, in a hail of gunfire and exploding grenades, they killed a policeman who stumbled upon them, then burst into the apartment of Danny Haran, herding him and his 4-year-old daughter out of the house at gunpoint to the beach below, where they were killed. The attack is seared in Israel's collective consciousness because witnesses recounted that Kantar shot Danny Haran in front of his child, then killed her by smashing her skull against a rock with his rifle butt. Israel held on to Kantar for decades, hoping to use him as a bargaining chip to wring some information about missing Israeli airman, Ron Arad. Hezbollah relayed a report to Israel about Arad........

POPSU.S. Seeks Extradition Of Serbian Basketball Player As a condition of his release, Kovacevic surrendered his Serbian passport, but Serbian Deputy Consul Igor Milosevic allegedly furnished Kovacevic with travel documents. The Serbian Foreign Ministry said Milosevic is facing disciplinary action for issuing the new documents. "The case of Miladin Kovacevic, who is reported to have brutally beaten a fellow student half his size even after he was unconscious, and then fled the United States while awaiting trial, is shocking," Munter said in the statement. Kovacevic, who is reported to have brutally beaten a fellow student half his size even after he was unconscious, and then fled the United States while awaiting trial, is shocking," Munter said. The two countries' treaties effectively bar them from extraditing their own citizens. But legal experts said loopholes could be found that would allow the return of the basketball player since he fled the U.S. to avoid prosecution.

POPSDark Age Ahead Interesting perspective on the times we live in. My favorite author, Jane Jacobs, is the inspiration for the title of this forum posting. I do think that society is now beginning to realize the gravity of our situation, but is still in the panic/disbelief state. This is not a "lifestyle" issue as the CBS producers seem to view it. It is about the future of the human species.
