POPS"No Shot" Wackos If you had something that's proven to prevent disease and suffering, you'd get it for the people you love the most — your children, wouldn't you? But suddenly, a bunch of cranks start saying its some kind of government plot, and people buy it, putting themselves, their children and everyone they come into contact with in danger? That's just stupid... dangerously stupid. The exact same technology and techniques that are protecting your children from diseases like polio and whooping cough are in those 'flu vaccines. It isn't anything new or dangerous, so get over your paranoia already... especially since the government is offering the shots for free! So leave your paranoia and conspiracy theories at home, and protect the people you care about. Get the inoculations, and stop being silly.

POPSInstead of calling it swine flu, maybe they should call it WHO flu Why would the WHO call H1N1 a pandemic? It obviously has not come anywhere near to being as wide-spread as predicted. Is it politically motivated? Anyone have any ideas? I don’t generally go in for conspiracy theories except to muddy the waters, but I’m thinking this could have been a test to see how many people get behind what the government tells us to do. Or, the government will say that the pandemic was stopped because so many people took the vaccine. Whatever. Now, a real conspiracy theorist would say that the vaccine was an excuse to inject a tracking device in us. :)

POPSSean Hannity helps Jerome Corsi promote his black-helicopter 'New World Order' conspiracy theories As Steven Thomma explained for McClatchy: In truth, Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., has proposed a bill that would order the Homeland Security Department to prepare national emergency centers — to provide temporary housing and medical facilities in national emergencies such as hurricanes. The bill also would allow the centers to be used to train first responders, and for "other appropriate needs, as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security.

POPSInvisible hand in invisible matter. Dark matter might not exist. Dr Famaey added, "If we account for our observations with a modified law of gravity, it makes perfect sense to replace the effective action of hypothetical dark matter with a force closely related to the distribution of visible matter." The implications of the new research could change some of the most widely held scientific theories about the history and expansion of the universe. Lead researcher Dr. Gianfranco Gentile at the University of Ghent concludes, "Understanding this puzzling conspiracy is probably the key to unlock the formation of galaxies and their structures." What about NASA's direct proof on dark matter's existance? Broken study? This is actually makes sense, but so far is a little hard to accept. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

POPSCrazy Conspiracy Theories ... or Are They? Some of these theories are bizarre, some - hold water. Mix false and true for their own advantage is usual method of con artists from behind the scene. Another method is distracting public attention from real leads by BS. But nothing can be hidden forever and in some point, sometimes so unpredictable, the true show its face. Good when we have a chance to catch glimpse of it and show it to the world, now in our new media environment - virtual space of thought - it's become easy and handy.

POPSGlenn Beck: Harmful to the Conservative Movement Video at first clip link. Second clip link is to a commentary from Peter Wehner, former Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Strategic Initiatives. Mr. Wehner served in the Reagan and George H.W. Bush Administrations prior to becoming deputy director of speechwriting for President George W. Bush in 2001. In 2002, he was asked to head the Office of Strategic Initiatives, where he generated policy ideas, reached out to public intellectuals, published op-eds and essays, and provided counsel on a range of domestic and international issues. Prior to joining the Bush Administration, Wehner was executive director for policy for Empower America, a conservative public-policy organization. Mr. Wehner also served as a special assistant to the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy and, before that, as a speechwriter for then-Secretary of Education Bill Bennett.

POPSSetting Up Temp.Census Workers For Murder In 1999, I was hired as a temp to do census work through the state employment commission. Back then, the news media riled up the people by saying that scam artists were preying on senior citizens by posing as census workers. Made my little temp job somewhat dangerous as well as a major pain in the tookus. Well, here they go again... And, mind you, a U.S census, every 10 years is required per the Constitution. So, yeah. I hold the media, the exposure-hungry "conservative" loudmouths AND the hands-on murderer(s) responsible for Sparkman's death. The old folks say that if you lie down with dogs, you'll get up with fleas.

POPSWhite Voters, Easy Marks For Controversy Stokers
proposed healthcare overhaul, in which some conservatives accused him of socialism. Obama’s ratings seem likely to rise again if he wins passage of healthcare legislation this fall. One such episode came to a head Sunday when Van Jones, Obama’s green jobs czar, resigned after a week of criticism over past inflammatory statements and for signing onto conspiracy theories questioning whether the U.S. government played a role in the Sept. 11 attacks. In another episode, some conservatives have criticized a White House dinner invitation issued to the lead lawyer in the American Civil Liberties Union lawsuits that have forced the government to disclose Bush-era interrogation techniques. The lawyer was invited to an event for the Muslim holiday of Ramadan. And Obama’s plan to address the nation’s schoolchildren Tuesday has prompted an outcry among some conservative parents and GOP officials. Some of them have accused the White House of trying to infuse “socialism”

POPSCrazy Conspiracy Theorism Disavowed The evidence that President Obama's "Green Jobs Czar" is a total radical continues to grow. Gateway Pundit is now reporting that Van Jones in addition to having said he was a communist in the past, also signed onto the radical 9/11 "Truther" statement. "Truthers" believe President George W. Bush and the U.S. Government were responsible for the September 11 attacks on the United States, or at the least had foreknowledge and did nothing to try and stop it. Below you see the image of Jones' name listed among 100 prominent Americans who had signed onto the statement. POPSThe many species of crazy tree "People who have prominent roles in the public sphere, such as politicians, television journalists, and even widely-read bloggers, have a responsibility not to lie, distort the truth, throw swastikas around, or aid and abet those who do. The best we can do is to keep plugging away, trying to make politics more serious and responsible, a little bit at a time." Well said!

POPSHave You Heard "The Hum"? Various features of modern life have been blamed - gas pipes, power lines, mobile phone masts, wind farms, nuclear waste, even low-frequency submarine communications. The internet is abuzz with rumour and speculation. There are dark mutterings about secret military activity, alien contact and government cover-ups. The hum even featured in an episode of the sci-fi drama "The X-Files". Such conspiracy theories are understandable, but unhelpful, according to Dr David Baguley, who's head of audiology at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. He estimates that in about a third of cases there is some environmental source that can be tracked down and dealt with. "It may be a fridge or an industrial fan or a piece of heavy machinery at a nearby factory that is causing the disturbance and can be switched off," he says. Most of the time, however, there is no external noise that can be recorded or identified. You can hear an amplified recording of the hum, at the source.

POPSBirthers' new claim about Obama's birth: his grandmother was really his mother! Too bad for their argument that if that actually were the case, it would render invalid their claims about him not being a citizen due to having been born in Kenya. Bear in mind: the person or people making a claim are the ones who need to provide evidence to support their claim, not the other way around. If Jan says "Pat has sexual relations with sheep!" the burden is on Jan to provide evidence of this; the burden is not on Pat to defend against a ludicrous, unsupported claim. Remember, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence .

POPSGoldman Sachs Pumping and Dumping Our Economy An excellent article and video by Matt Taibbi, from Rolling Stone Magazine, about how Goldman Sachs has been systematically, repeatedly, "pumping and dumping" the American economy, creating bubbles, then positioning themselves to profit from the popped bubbles, then being in good position to help "fix" the inevitable recession.

POPSBirthers and anti-choicers: one and the same? More: The birther conspiracy theory works the same way---pointing out evidence and logical arguments only expands the size and scope of the conspiracy in the minds of birthers. In fact the “Obama faked his birth certificate and was born outside of the U.S.” theory apparently erupted in part from an earlier conspiracy theory over Obama's middle name . With birthers, as with anti-choicers, more evidence of reality just gets them further into the thick of imagining even more complex and strange conspiracies. And just as the anti-choicers have moved on to concocting theories about how Planned Parenthood is part of a child sex ring that they’re covering up, I suspect the birther thing may grow in ways that are frightening in their complexity and lack of touch with reality.
