Obama's Interview With Military Times July 02, 2008
merrie
by merrie  7-10-2008    2
Somebody please ask junior Senator Barack Obama what he means when he says that contract worker support of our war effort should be just used for kitchen work and automobile repair. Does Barack Obama actually know what kind of invaluable service outfits like Blackwater perform in the support of our efforts in ferreting out zeolots who want to do harm to the Iraqi citizens we are trying to liberate? This is what Barack said to The Military Times, July 2, 2008: There is room for private contractors to work in the mess hall, providing basic supplies and doing some logistical work that might have been done in-house in the past. I am troubled by the use of private contractors when it comes to potential armed engagements… It is frightening to think Obama is one step away from being Commander in Chief. UPDATE: Astute Bloggers has more on Obama's Far Left attitude on Blackwater employees.

Canadian Guns-For-Hire
merrie
by merrie  10-18-2007
After the Iraqi government announced its decision to ban Blackwater contractors from Iraq , P.W. Singer, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and the author of Corporate Warriors: The Rise of the Privatized Military Industry, called the move “inevitable.” The list of “questionable incidents” involving private security contractors had grown too long to ignore, he says, and “it is not surprising that at some point would start to act like one, trying to enforce its monopoly over violence against other armed organizations on the ground.” But he also points out there were likely significant political considerations involved.

News Corp.'s DJ Takeover Seen Done In Early Dec.
Louis Hau
by Louis Hau  10-2-2007
News Corp.'s integration of Dow Jones is well underway, according to a memo that CEO Rich Zannino sent to DJ employees yesterday. Rupert Murdoch has been making the rounds in the meantime. He visited the Wall Street Journal three weeks ago and stopped by Dow Jones Newswires' offices in Jersey City today. A piece of unfinished business -- on Thursday, DJ's union will begin an online ratification vote on a new three-year contract. Final votes are due Oct. 12. - Louis Hau

Dow Jones Labor Talks Go Nowhere
Forbes Business
by Forbes Business  8-7-2007
The Independent Association of Publishers Employees, which represents about 2,000 employees at Dow Jones, says it's seeking "a real pay increase" that accounts for the effects of inflation and higher health care premiums. Considering that neither side submitted a new proposal, it's too soon to say whether the company will be shifting gears in the talks now that the News Corp. takeover is on track for completion.- Louis Hau
