POPSSix Blackwater Guards 'May' Be Charged in Iraq Massacre Immunity and impunity have gone hand in hand. Representative Jim McDermott. "The private contracting thing is the most erosive thing that this administration has done. You look at all the things that are being run by private contractors, you simply cannot be handing money to a private contractor who is not under the law of that country or the law of this country and can do anything they want. They're really -- they're rogue outfits." Blackwater and at least 300 other companies have been hired by the US government for privatized armed services in Iraq to the tune of about $6 billion in taxpayer money..

POPSBlackwater Busted, Prince Has "Compliance Challenges" Makes one smile. The arrogant Prince of Blackwater just got nailed with a big fine from the same corrupt Federal government they contracted with. The "war on terrorism" is so profitable. What happened to all the hardware that ended up on the black market in Iraq? (Someone knows). "Compliance challenges", he says. More like rogue operations. This is the same company that shoots whoever is in the area and quickly leaves, whose crimes even U.S. military personnel have reported. Dirty mercenaries are never held accountable for war crimes because they are independent contractors. This is the least the State Dept has on them, just the tip of the proverbial ice berg. Iraq wants to try them there.

POPSWindfall-Nightmare When contractor Bob Kitts found $182,000 in Depression-era currency hidden in the walls of Amanda Reece they argued over the find and that's the reason why they ended up with only a small amount of the fortune. Had they agreed bot to share and to hide the find they might have divided it in secret. Now their quarrels led to even more claims from the heirs of the man who hid the money and it all earned them bad reputations and other troubles.

POPSA convicted felon can run for office - but can't vote1?
Another Republican Congressman convicted for corruption. (While they make up smears about and ACORN, etc. -- they are the ones most often gong to jail). But when I hear that this guy could still run for office I was astounded. The USA has a rule that felons can't vote. So felons can't vote but they can run for office!? Obviously this is absurd. But it made me think and come to a clear opinion about this rule that felons can't vote. This rule that felons can't vote is, indeed, another tactic of voter suppression by the Republicans. All their voter suppression tactics focus on the poor and minorities and, 4sure, that's the majority of our prison population. What a despicable election scam. Not to mention that it would seem much better to try to integrate and interest ex-prisoners back into behaving more properly in society -- and voting is a good citizenship thing to do. Felons can run for office but can't vote? I guess felons running for office is more of a W

POPSStevens (R-Alaska) Convicted On All Counts "Despite being a convicted felon, he is not required to drop out of the race or resign from the Senate. If he wins re-election, he can continue to hold his seat because there is no rule barring felons from serving in Congress. The Senate could vote to expel Stevens on a two-thirds vote. "Put this down: That will never happen _ ever, OK?" Stevens said in the weeks leading up to his trial. "I am not stepping down. I'm going to run through and I'm going to win this election." The arrogance.

POPSPresidential Candidates Obama and McCain Believe in E-Verify - Background Investigation Blogs No matter what side of the political spectrum the presidential candidates sit on, there is at least one commonality between the two - Electronic Employer Verification Systems. Both Democrat Barak Obama and Republican John McCain both agree that employers will need to continue to utilize some sort of instant electronic verifications solution to check the immigration status of all new hires.

POPSWhat real voter fraud looks like, eh GOP? Those who were formerly Democrats may stop receiving phone calls and literature from that party, perhaps affecting its get-out-the-vote efforts. They also will be given only a Republican ballot in the next primary election if they do not switch their registration back before then. Some also report having their registration status changed to absentee without their permission; if they show up at the polls without a ballot they may be unable to vote.

POPSDepartment of Defense Usurps Department of State Power! I am not saying that that having the Department of State or Department of Defense "paying" a contractor to write and print good news about USA for Iraqi's is a good thing or a bad thing just that WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FREEDOM OF THE PRESS?! Isn't this the job of the free press of the world? I guess Haliburton must have a marketing department that has figured out a new way to make money off of this Bush League War

POPSWhat Happened To $100,000 Garden Money, Now Oasis of Weeds Obama vowed to "work tirelessly" to raise $1.1 million to help Smith's organization turn the City of Chicago-owned lot into an oasis of trees and paths. But Obama lost the congressional race, no more money was raised, and today the garden site is a mess of weeds, chunks of concrete and garbage. The only noticeable improvement is a gazebo. In a previous interview, Smith said the state grant money was legitimately spent, mostly on underground site preparation. But no one ever took out construction permits required for such work, city records show. And a contractor who Smith said did most of the work told a reporter all he did was cut down trees and grade the site with a Bobcat. Citing the garden's failure to take root, NeighborSpace -- an umbrella group for dozens of community gardens citywide -- moved Sept. 9 to return the site to the city. Its action followed a July 11 Sun-Times report on the grant.
