Political Interference of the Surgeon General (No way!)
sahara
by sahara  8-11-2008    1
Surely they are lying! There is no way they controlled free speech! I am astonished that they would even suggest such things! Like this: On the increasing politicization of the Surgeon General's position: -Previous Surgeon Generals agreed that: "never had they seen Washington, D.C. so partisan or a new Surgeon General so politically challenged and marginalized as during my tenure." -" he reality is that the nation's doctor has been marginalized and relegated to a position with no independent budget, and with supervisors who are political appointees with partisan agendas. Anything that doesn't fit into the political appointees' ideological, theological, or political agenda is ignored, marginalized, or simply buried." - "Politicians in the late 1960s decided that the Office of the Surgeon General should be disempowered and its authorities placed within offices of Department of Health and Human Services political appointees."

Rezko, Wright, And Ayers
merrie
by merrie  4-28-2008    3
If you are looking for the audio and transcripts of Pastor Wright's two sermons, they are here. In an effort to provide "context" I will try and obtain and play the entire audio of his NAACP speech from yesterday on today's program. (Michelle Malkin has a round-up on this astonishing speech.) If time permits, I'll replay the sermons as well, even though I played all the audio out there from both on Friday's program. They are the "primary documents" of the controversy, and deserve a wide audience. I suspect the pastor will make more news at the National Press Club, and I'll play that audio as well.

Is Obama Trying to Bamboozle Us
merrie
by merrie  3-18-2008    3
We journalists merely opened it in the interest of providing voters with as much information about a candidate for president as could be found. And no journalist has put any words in Jeremiah Wright's mouth. Is Senator Obama suggesting that "we all come together" by burying the truth of his pastor's racism? This would seem to represent a rather chilling call to censorship, albeit delivered in a soothing, kind-mannered voice. When I visited Trinity United Church of Christ, I perused the titles in the church bookstore. Well, all of James H. Cone's books on black liberation theology were on prominent display, as were books by Malcolm X and black panther luminaries and Nation of Islam greats. Does Obama also expect us to believe that he never knew there were books glorifying violence and black supremacy racism in his own church's bookstore, even though he was a prominent member there for more than 20 years.

Paging Dr. Koop
Forbes Business
by Forbes Business  7-11-2007
In the past, the surgeon general sometimes was able to raise medical issues that were impolitic -- like AIDs. The Bush administration, for the record, denied the charges.
