POPSHabits May Be Good For You "Not everyone is comfortable with the arrangements. Some critics complain that public health professionals are becoming too cozy with companies ultimately focused on their bottom lines. Others worry that these advertising techniques may be manipulative. But what Dr. Curtis learned in Ghana suggests that saving the world may be as easy as hawking chewing gum, or, to use a more contemporary example, as simple as training Americans to spray perfumed water on couches that are already clean."

POPSTokyo's Cat Cafes Offer Serenity Mr. Maeda, of Neko JaLaLa, started the cafe with a neighbor who shared his interest in increasing public awareness of cats, particularly strays. POPSFrom Iraq with Love Note by the author: “I am not for or against the war in Iraq, for the most part; although I do believe America did do a great service for the world, and the Iraqi people by bringing down Saddam, a world demonic beast, from his throne, and perhaps it was worth the price, then and now; we are all counting the price right this minute, are we not But is it worth it to continue? A pale question at best, now facing everyone in the country. There are wiser men than I up in Washington D.C., figuring these things out, and surely we do not know everything of what is in the background. But being in a war, I do know this: we won the war, it should be over, and we are not responsible to rebuild their whole country at the cost of taxing the American citizen to death: financially, resources, and our youth wise. I do pray that President Bush will bring our boys home. Enough is enough.”

POPSThe Year of Living Dangerously: Part Two of Two We fail to see that there is no choice, that elections are predetermined, and oftentimes orchestrated by the Ministry of Truth, that an opposition party is but a façade, that only the Corporatist Party exists, its two hands simply performing a juggling act, each taking its turn running the three ring circus we know as government. In our delusions of grandeur and exceptionalism we have become blinded to the reality that democracy is a sham, that real democracy is a threat to the corporatist element, that America has done more to destroy real democracy around the world than any nation on Earth. POPSBird Flu, Tet, and Lunar New Year This is an old article but illustrates the connections between Tet, or Lunar New Year celebrations and the unintentional creating of conditions favorable to produce new versions of the flu or even a new pandemic from bird flu leaping to human to human pandemic flu..

POPSYou say Pelosi, I say Policy Though opposed to the war herself, Pelosi has for months been a target of an antiwar movement that believes she hasn't done enough. I wonder why?

POPSPelosi "recognizes" Americans' frustrations Lies, lies, lies. I got so angry reading this that I had to force myself to finish it. The gist that I perceive is that -- Americans are passionate and dedicated to bringing the troops home; just not able to comprehend the politics of doing so. We have to make responsible decisions in the Congress that are not driven by the dissatisfaction of anybody who wants the war to end tomorrow

POPSOh the poor dears... When I was a (single) student I used to dream about this kind of porno movie happening actually occurring. Clearly I'm a little more grown up now (just a little) and I can see how it would or could be upsetting and distressing, but even so I can't help but be slightly amused by the reporting - sorry.
