POPSWe are Not a Center-Right Country We built the United Nations, We started the idea of human rights, We expanded voting rights and civil rights for everybody, We spread the idea of individual rights throughout the world, We even rebuilt our enemies after World War II. It is no exaggeration to say that America is one of the most progressive countries in the history of the world.

POPSVeterans Occupy Natioanl Archives, Again Members of Veterans for Peace (VFP) chose the Archives for their nonviolent protest because it is symbolic of their military oath to "defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." In September they occupied the Archives for 24 hours, and plan to stay longer this time. Semper fi. Good luck to you all.

POPSMedvedev: Ready To Respond If U.S. Ends Missile Plan "We hope to create frank and honest relations with the new administration and resolve problems that we were not able to resolve with the current administration," he said. Iran, Iraq, Russia, all have extended a hand of peace towards America. Obama had better not screw up this opportunity to make right some of all Bush's wrongs. As Bush once said: "Either you are with us, or you are against us." If America continues to choose to threaten the security of Europe with their paranoid evil plans, I will know for sure that America is the true enemy of the whole world. Russia are closer neighbours to us, than the US and I for one, (among many others here in Dk), trust them a hell of a lot more, than we'll ever trust America. Get Obama to stop the plans for the stupid paranoid damned missile shield. The ball is in America's court. I hope they play it wisely.

POPSWelcome to the new Sunday 'World of the Global Citizen' America, as most of us have known it, is over. We have tied ourselves to sinking Europe, our declared/undeclared enemies, and the 3rd world countries. They will suck us dry of our resources and wealth and there will be nothing left to *liberally* share with those in need. It will be demanded and siphoned away.

POPSNuclear Fusion Will Become Reality by 2011 In its National Ignition Facility (NIF), LLNL will have a laser capable of heating plasma to the absurdly-high temperatures needed for nuclear fusion. The completion of the device is scheduled for 2009, whereas the first test will begin in 2010. Researchers at the lab are confident that, by 2011, they could obtain sustainable and entirely controllable fusion. The year of 2020 was set as a marker for the construction of the first commercial power plant, to employ the new technology. If their endeavors are successful, then the world could see a major transformation, as far as energy production goes. Having a reliable and perfectly safe source of power will virtually eliminate the need for fossil-fuel power plants, and even wind and solar farms will become obsolete. In order for this to happen, governments worldwide will have to make a huge financial effort, to install these energy-producing plants across their territories.

POPSFor the first time in history, the majority of the people on our planet live in cities "The sheer scale and speed of the current urban expansion make it unlike any of the big changes that have punctuated urban history. It mostly consists of poor people migrating in unprecedented numbers, and then producing babies on a similarly unprecedented scale. It is thus largely a phenomenon of poor and middle-income countries; the rich world has put most of its urbanization behind it."

POPSFrance Backs Russia's Demand to Stop USA Missile Base in Poland
Also talk of a pan-European security pact. I'm stunned and impressed. I urge all Europe, all Europeans to support the French President. This was a for real nuclear showdown, like the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. I really thought a city in Poland, or others in Europe were going to get nuked. NOTHING IS RESOLVED YET. The USA plans to put nukes on the Russian border are still in place. There is no way - because of American ideology about Russia - that Obama can stick his neck out and stop these missile base plans. But now BOTH France and Russia oppose them. If other EU countries join them -- if there is massive street protest (like some are doing in Poland and Czech Republic) this could give Obama an "excuse," -- to go along with the will of Europe; then he'd be going along with the will of Europe instead of backing down from the Russians. Plus - pan-European security pact? Gads! NATO out the window. NATO expansion out the windown. Boy, Bush really @#Red up. He IS

POPSPalestinian Christians Suffering 'Severe Blows' From Muslims... I have read hints of this but never have I read where a Muslim himself comes out and announces this for all to read. I hope he has some *protection* somewhere. FTA: "Palestinian Christians are indigenous to the land and “no different from us, with the same rights and obligations” as Muslims."

POPSWhy did the West ignore the truth about the war in Georgia?
Thank goodness, they might be thinking at the US State Department and the British Foreign Office, for the financial crisis. Were it not for the ever-blacker news about the Western world's economy, another scandal would be vying for the headlines – and one where the blame would be easier to apportion. It concerns our two countries' relations with Russia and the truth about this summer's Georgia-Russia war. Over the past couple of weeks, a spate of reports has appeared in the American and British media, questioning many assumptions about that war, chief among them that Russia was the guilty party. Journalists from the BBC, The New York Times and Canada's Embassy magazine, among others, travelled to South Ossetia, the region at the centre of the conflict, in an effort to establish the facts. Not the "facts" as told by the super-slick Georgian PR machine at the time, nor the "facts" as eventually dragged from the hyper-defensive and clod-hopping communicators of the Kremlin. But the

POPSRussian leader Medvedev heading to Cuba, Venezuela The Russians are shrewd geopolitical players. They smell weakness in the new U.S. administration and are exploiting it even before Obama takes office. As I have said many times.. Obama is a lightweight and liberals are cowards. Our enemies will take advantage. They will chew him up and spit him out.

POPSNew program teaches preschoolers reading skills, getting along with others This is why education is going nowhere in western countries. This program has been running in preschools everywhere since I was first teaching (1971). Someone pushes the wheel round and up comes the same old with a new title. Access for all to the preschools is the first priority, not wasting money doing the bleeding obvious. Just proves the "experts" don't know what is happening with the kids and are only interested in promotion or glory. And, as the average kid begins to read at seven, they will be mighty sick of pre reading skills after three years.

POPSTwo doctors in Saudi Arabia want to change cultural attitudes to female genital mutilation In Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and Mali, for example, more than 80% of women have undergone FGM. Typically, the procedure is carried out by a Daya (an elderly female birth attendant) when a baby girl is a few days old, but it can be done at any time during childhood, adolescence, before marriage or during a first pregnancy. The scope of the operation – which is often carried out in non-sterile conditions using household implements – can vary considerably from removing the clitoris to cutting away all of the woman's external genitalia before stitching the wound back together leaving only a tiny hole for menstruation and urination." yes it still exists.

POPSMini nuclear power plants for sale continues: 'Deal claims to have more than 100 firm orders, largely from the oil and electricity industries, but says the company is also targeting developing countries and isolated communities. 'It's leapfrog technology,' he said. The company plans to set up three factories to produce 4,000 plants between 2013 and 2023. 'We already have a pipeline for 100 reactors, and we are taking our time to tool up to mass-produce this reactor.'The first confirmed order came from TES, a Czech infrastructure company specialising in water plants and power plants. 'They ordered six units and optioned a further 12. We are very sure of their capability to purchase,' said Deal.

POPSinteresting two minute video on destroying these weapons The headline is quite misleading. The biggest cluster bomb users aren't signing the treaty. The US has used them in every recent war: Yugoslavia in 1999, Afghanistan, and Iraq and has not renounced their continued use. Obama voted for an amendment that would have prevented the use of such weapons against civilians, but if these weapons are used in war, they inevitably will kill civilians. The only sure way to stop killing civilians with cluster bombs is to eliminate them. A Google search for "cluster bombs" on Obama's website came up empty; I didn't find any indication of what Obama intends to do about them. If Bill Clinton were back in office, you can bet he'd find a way to continue to use these God-forsaken devices, even as he convinced everyone of the opposite. We'll see if Obama is a president in the Clinton mold.

POPSA country's productivity increase as its gender gap narrows 3. The greater standing women have, the more everyone benefits: Industrialized countries can still grow their economies substantially by elevating women. Closing the employment gender gap "would have huge economic implications for the developed economies, boosting US GDP by as much as 9%, Eurozone GDP by as much as 13% and Japanese GDP by as much as 16%," according to the report
