Fidel Warns That It Would Be A Disaster If Chávez Was Assassinated
merrie
by merrie  9-17-2008
" Venezuelan oil is not sugar cane. It is a product which, although market prices were low at the time, such was the volume and quality that it generated a huge income in a currency that possessed tremendous acquisitive power for decades," read Chávez. "Your country achieved certain levels of industrial development," continued Fidel Castro in the letter that the South American leader said he would read in sections. "On your own merits and with tremendous popular support, you are assuming leadership of a people who received very little for what they produced," noted Fidel in his message, in reference to Chávez’ electoral triumph in 1998. "There was a surplus of workers, there was unemployment, the consumerism of the rich, their Yankee-style stores and services, they forced you to sell the workforce, they subjected it to inflation, they shamelessly sold your hard currency reserves" In contrast, Cuba relied solely on its income from sugar cane.

Bolivian President Morales backed by neighbors
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  9-16-2008
Last week Bolivia accused the US of supporting the opposition and expelled its ambassador. Venezuela followed suit to show solidarity and Honduras has refused to accept the credentials of a new US envoy. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said the unrest in Bolivia was "a conspiracy directed by the US empire", likening it to the 1973 CIA-backed coup which ousted Chile's President Salvador Allende. The US says it regrets the recent diplomatic expulsions and has rejected Bolivia's allegations against its ambassador.

So now we have the internet bringing all this stuff online and it translates into real life with real live kids in a candy store. I think the lack of proper education and failure to talk to these kids account more for this social rebellion and we would do well to learn from it.

Bloomberg: Alaska’s Palin, Miss Congeniality, Makes Exxon, Conoco Comply
merrie
by merrie  9-7-2008
“We’ve got to play hardball,” says Republican Palin, 44, in a (Bloomberg) interview. Alaska relies on the energy industry for 85 percent of tax revenue and 33 percent of jobs. “The time is right to develop these resources because of the price of fuel.” Like I say, don’t underestimate Sarah Palin.

'Obama Sued in Philadelphia Federal Court'
merrie
by merrie  8-22-2008    8
"If", and that's a BIG IF, this isn't all some kind of hoax or a simple case of the Obama campaign not having provided the correct information or certificate, or there's some other legitimate explanation, all hell is about to break out in the Obama campaign and Hillary Clinton will have pulled off a hell of a coup! Update; Factcheck.org (owned by The Annenberg Foundation) has a new birth certificate story. As Texasdarlin suggests in her post, this is interesting timing since Obama has just returned from Hawaii. Indeed, what a coincidence that it's today! Update on Federal Lawsuit (Things may be getting more interesting) (As TD suggests, are there links worth investigating between the Barack Obama campaign, William Ayres, the Annenbergs, and ACORN.) Vladimir Putin Dictator for Life.
swampfoxz
by swampfoxz  8-20-2008
The word "democracy" may be preserved as a nod to world opinion, but the weight falls entirely on the adjective, "sovereign," which in this case is clearly a euphemism for "we'll do things our own way, and don't butt in." As prime minister Putin controls Russia's government. His new job gives him sweeping powers over the Duma, Russia's lower house, where United Russia has 315 out of 450 seats, as well as over regional legislatures, also dominated by the party. Analysts say Putin's longterm strategy is to return as president in 2012, and by becoming party chairman, Putin has made himself virtually unsackable.

Pat Buchanan:'Georgia Started This Fight, Russia Finished It'
blueridge
by blueridge  8-15-2008
Pat Buchanan has it right! Conservatives and republicans in particular should note what he says, instead of Bush. Georgia started this fight -- Russia finished it. Contrary to Bush, McCain, and yes Obama and the parroting MSM, Georgia was the aggressor. Georgia attacked and invaded first, and Russia responded to roll their aggression back. Read the article, he also shows the hypocrisy of Bush's condemnation and propaganda, as even the Democrats follow his false official story again. He also mentions the neocons are behind this agenda against Russia. (Buchanan vindicates my clipmarks on this subject precisely as I commented). Time to wake everyone up to this before the anti-Russia campaign foments more wars.

Jack Bauer's '24' Will Kick Off New Season With Movie, Nov.23
merrie
by merrie  8-5-2008    4
"I think it was a really smart move by Fox to just wait. It afforded us so much more time, and it's the first time we'll have all 24 episodes completed, in the can and ready to air before you see the first one. Which means you have 24 perfect episodes without running into trouble." If not, he says, "We won't have any excuse." Jack's back, at least for a two-hour real-time movie. 24: Exile, Nov. 23, tees up the seventh season, due in January.
